This was my first visit to the Tank Museum. It was much more then I expected. Couldn’t believe how many tanks there actually were. All different kinds, makes, era and nations. I heard the Tank Feast it awesome and think I will definitely try and go. There is more then just tanks as well. The trench system is good to walk through. All in all a good day out, something the whole family can enjoy.

The tank Museum has a fantastic collection of tanks from all eras. The staff are helpful and incredibly knowledgable, you can feel their passion when they talk about what life was like inside a tank. The trench section was great, especially for children. The tiger collection makes you realise how daunting it must have been for allied soldiers during the war....they look so powerful and well built.

Having visited Bovington a few times, as a kid, when it was just housing tanks in some large sheds in the Eighties, I thought it would be an interesting experience to take my little boy on a visit.

He thoroughly enjoyed himself and as little boys are perhaps prone to do so, thought the original tank named "Little Willie" , that's on display, was hilariously funny! I was just in awe that it was built over 100 years ago in 1915, and hadn't ended up on some scrapheap.

There are a lot of tanks here for both adults and kids to find out about and the effort that has gone in to keep these tanks is outstanding.

My one gripe, ok make that three, is:

a) really naff computerised interactive shooting games (with rifle attached to a cable lock) positioned in different zones that charge 1 pound a turn, they ruin the experience as kids just went on and on at their parents wanting to have a go, please remove them, I saw no child using them on a paid basis.

b) some kind of classroom sponsorship for school visits from the makers of the computer game, World of Tanks, was particularly evident. To boil it down to some kind of cool "hip" computer game I think is a little disrespectful in this military museum, it shouldn't have to come to advertising a computer game in return for funds.

c) was a little shocked at the current price to get in, though I suppose being told the ticket is valid for 12 months softens the blow (but then who/how many would typically revisit within this timeframe? Very few I imagine....)

Worth visiting but I would recommend you get there early if you want time to see everything.

What a great museum, reasonably priced and free entry for 12 months as part of the ticket price.

Lots of very interesting exhibits and plenty of different aspects of armoured warfare to look at.

A real bonus was the cafeteria, very well priced and the pasties and cakes absolutely delicious.

I’ll be back to explore further.
