“Pros and Cons of The Villa Express Kirkham”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

Pros:
1. Nice little hotel, staff were very friendly, polite and courteous. Came as quite a big group and booked us in quickly and efficiently.
2. Room itself was very nice, clean, bed comfortable, TV, tea/coffee, quite small but for 1/2 people its fine.
3. Bathroom clean and nice, power shower, modern and had everything you'd normally expect
4. Adjoining bar/restaurant is nicely done up, country pub kind of look. Food looked decent.
5. Asked to buy some bottles of wine at the front desk at 3am.. Night porter said the bar was locked but managed to rustle up a bottle which he donated for free. Great Customer Service! Bravo to this man!
6. Big car-park and has CCTV, looks safe place to park the car.
7. Free WIFI.

Cons:
1. Came as a group of 20, the restaurant struggled to cope with this many people at breakfast, not enough food was laid out and this led to a wait. It Doesn't appear that a great number of people stay over and come down for breakfast. Despite undoubtedly knowing how many guests are staying...
2. The bar closes at 11pm... including Fridays and Saturdays. What??!!
3. No Safety Deposit Box, Room key is an actual key which you have to lug around, no modernization here.. for a travel lodge.

Overall would I book again? Yes because I think its the only hotel in the area, its grand, its comfortable and does the job. But its nothing to write home about.

I have met up with three of my friends here for a quick meal and catch up three or four times before when it was a fayre and square - basic reasonable food at a good price , nothing to write home about but ideal for chatting and a drink or two. We arrived on this occasion not realising it had changed and prices had doubled - however we decided to stay and try it. We noticed that there was only one or two other tables apart from us with diners- previously it had always been busier. We ordered our meals and they arrived within 10 minutes of ordering, suspiciously quickly. We laughed when one of our party ordered rare rib eye steak , and was told it couldn't be cooked rare as it was too thin, this should have been a red light to us. The rib eye steaks were about the thickness of thick cut bacon, served with a small handful of lettuce leaves with a quarter of tomato and sliver of onion, the chips at first sight appeared to be chip sticks out of a packet, but on closer inspection I realised they were very thin cut chips, slightly warm and greasy. We asked for ketchup and mustard, but after a wait of several minutes had to ask again at the bar. The pasta dish one of us had was described as tasteless. The only dish that was reasonable was the sea bass, but when we finished our meal we all said we were still hungry. We asked for the pudding menu - tiramisu, poached pears or an Eton mess version, or cheese and biscuits at £6.95, we weren't tempted and all said we would have something else when we got home ! The poor food couldn't be explained away by the venue being busy as it was very quiet . Did we complain? No - we should have said something, but the waitress seemed almost embarrassed to be serving us such food, we didn't want to make it worse for her . We decided to to put it down to a bad experience and meet up somewhere else for our next girls catch up.

We were staying here for two nights as guests of a wedding at the Villa. The pub is large and nice looking. The room was good value for money and ideal for our stay. Clean and the bed was very comfy. The shower was good as well- ours was in the bath but others had a cubicle. The room with a bath was cheaper than a room with a shower. When I booked I didn't expect to have a shower there so was very pleased!
We had an evening meal there as well. There were only about 8 choices on the menu but around 12 specials on the board. I had the Italian burger. It was an awesome burger and came with lovely home made chips and onion rings. All of the food that came out looked lovely.
Hungover, we looked forward to breakfast- hoping it would be as nice as the evening meal. It was a total disappointment.
They were clearly understaffed. As each breakfast came out, the portions got smaller- they didn't expect so many for breakfast, although we'd already booked. There was no juice there- they were empty for at least 30 minutes. The breakfast itself was disappointing- low quality sausages. Seeing as we were in a wedding party, we compared notes. We got around half of the portion as the people opposite us and they got loads of toast. We had to ask for toast and had one slice each. I regretted paying in advance for the breakfast as it meant that we'd need to eat there on the second day. The food wasn't awful (apart from a frozen croissant incident) but it was inconsistent and the staff were run ragged.
I would stay again in the unlikely event that there is another wedding close by but skip the breakfast!
PS guy on reception was very nice and pleasant. No complains about the hotel part at all.

Decided to give The Villa Express ago, since we have been here when it was a Fryre & Square and was not too impressed - but we thought it has changed hands so worth a try ??????

Firstly, We like our food and we like good quality, meaning that the only time we go to places that are two for ones are when we cant be bothered cooking or are brassic (Close to Payday), in which case you cant go wrong with a burger.

Secondly, Went to the Villa Express for a light lunch - the choice was so poor that for lunch it was a panini or nothing, my mrs was not too imressed with this so she had a bag of walkers crisps - I decided that I would like a panini so I ordered, the Breaded Chicken with lemon mayo and Rocket Panini - As you would expect it sounds nice - In actual fact, it was breaded lemon chicken panini with a side garnish that included rocket.

Dry Panini Bread, Stodgy Lemon Chicken, No Mayo - - - Very Dry with a garnish of rocket - topped with (for some reason) deep fried Courgette

Finally, Ordered a Pint of Wainwrights Bitter - Has to be the worst pint of Wainwrights I have ever had - actually didn't drink it all, which has got to be a first

Will defiantly be giving this place a wide birth next time.

We have been here twice since it re-opened as the Villa Express, once for lunch and once for Sunday dinner. Both times the food has been excellent and a huge improvement on that offered previously. We have sampled the paninis for lunch and the daily special for Sunday dinner and both were high quality and very enjoyable. The first time we went the front of house staff seemed a little hesitant and unsure of themselves (understable maybe as it had just reopened) but noticed a marked improvement when we went a couple of weeks later. The building itself is huge and currently lacks a little character but, chatting to the staff, they are about to make some major changes to the layout of the place, install new pizza ovens and introduce a new menu. Once these changes are completed, this place should be a great addition to the Fylde coast dining options.

Ive been to this resturant twice now since it reopened as The Villa Express, both times i have had a fantastic meal. Ive tried both a Seafood Risotto and the from the specials board "Stefano" Seabass, which were both gorgeous. Im looking forward to them opening as an Italian Resturant in the near future and most definatley will be returning as soon as possible

Just had another amazing meal at the Villa Express Restaurant thanks to their new star chef Stefano, who always makes sure everything is fine and gives you a warm welcome. I would highly recommend to anyone who hasnt already tried his food to do so as you are missing out. We had some beautiful fresh pasta dishes and have previously had some of the speciality seafood and chicken.
Plenty of food and there were allot of additional specials to choose from as well as the standard menu choices.
We will be back again as its nice to see fresh food being served by such lovely staff.
