Although the name is deceiving (we thought the resort is on the beach whereas it is around 5 km away), it is a clean, spacious and homely place to stay. Food is also decent, not lavish but simple and tasty and the staff is polite and helpful.

Om Beach Resort now under Jungle Resorts is an excellent place to stay in Gokarna. First of all its not a beach resort, the nearest Om beach is good 5 kms away.. Tucked in a small hilllock, this place is quite Spacious both in terms of the property and the Rooms. Just like a good Govt guest house, the rooms are quite big. Most of the rooms are like houses, with one living room in the front, spacious bathrooms. Clean and well maintained. Food is excellent. Value for money. Highly recommended

I travelled in the sizzling heat of May last year. This place is full of trees and plantation, a great respite from the heat! The resort is approximately 1-1.5 KM from Gokarna town, on the Om-beach road. The beaches are a bit far from here, so it's not a typical beach resort. There are a number of cottages, and not so close from each other so privacy is respected. The cottages are well maintained, though some of them may need maintenance. The package comes with four meals per day included, and food is decent in the restaurant here. The staff is nice and very helpful and takes good care of the guests. The manager was really helpful in guiding us around and helping us with the transport arrangements to Om beach (which is a bit far from here).
So, overall a very nice place to stay and spend time in the serene Gokarna!

Room Tip: Choose rooms closer to the reception/restaurant.

Yet another Indian 'Heritage' hotel. I get the feeling this means different things to Indians than to foreigners. This very dated hotel has large, strangely-proportioned rooms which are not dirty as such but are just old and very dated, and not overly pleasant to be in. They are basically of the quality you would expect in a youth hostel. There is hot water (which needs turning on in the rooms before you shower) and wifi (which they annoyingly turn off at night when the night guard/manager goes to sleep). The grounds look pleasant and it is decently maintained on the exterior. The restaurant is average at best, and the food is not particularly appealing (room temperature coca cola from a large plastic bottle anyone?). One gets the feeling that they just dont know any better as this place could be significantly improved with some investment. It is away from the beach (~5km, 15 min drive in a Rickshaw) so anyone looking for somewhere close or within walking distance to the sea should try elsewhere.

On a positive note the staff were pleasant and tried to be helpful, and my travelling companions said the massages and treatments they received were very good.

The negatives:
1) I had booked the resort in the month of September for a stay in January 2014. Email exchanges were made and the entire amount was prepaid in September itself on the assurance that the best cottage shall be reserved for me. However upon reaching the resort late at night I was given the sole cottage available and was told that there is no such message from the head office.
2) The cottage given to me (2003) was damp, dark and dingy. Infact each building comprises of 3 cottages. While the first 2 are front facing and looked nice from outside, the 3rd one on the backside is in the nature of outhouse and bad.
3) The resort is left at the mercy of the workers who do not understand hindi and porly understand english. The resort manager was not seen during our entire stay of 2 night / 3 days and the security guard looked after the reception, served in the dining hall and did multitude of other work.
4) The resort is located around 8 kms from the beaches which is a long long distance on these roads. People without their own conveyance shall find it extremely difficult as even the auto has to be called form the Gokarna town which is 2 KMs away. There is nothing to do in and around the resort.
5) The beach can be viewed only with a binocular and that too only from the restaurant. The rooms have no views.
6) The food at the restaurant is extremely basic and unconventional.
7) The ayurveda centre is a joke and the massage is more in the nature of a champi massage. Extremely poor.
The positives:
1) The foliage at the resort is appreciable and those interested in birding shall be pleased as there are lots of birds around.
2) The bed and the sheets were nice and clean
3) The guys at the restaurant were nice and helpful.
Will I return : Absolutely not.

Room Tip: Opt for only the front facing cottages

I love Gokarna city and everything there, this is no exception. This place is so serene and peaceful that one can stay there for months. Went with my friends and stayed there for 5 days. We would walk to kudle daily morning which is around 3-4 kms. This place keeps calling me back would certainly go there soon.

The size of the cottages is very impressive. Plenty of space in the resort itself. The property is large with plenty of greenery. Nice to walk around in. Plenty of space for the kids to run around.

The dining area is nice with a view overlooking both the hills and the sea. Nice place to relax while sipping your tea. The staff is friendly and very eager to help.

The one thing they need to do is maintain the place better. The paint is peeling off in many places and the resort as a whole needs to be renovated. A little bit of gardening will make the place even more beautiful.

Overall a great stay with great beaches nearby.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The "Khashi of South India", Gokarna lies at the confluence of the Aghanashini and Gangavalli rivers and is cradled between the Sahyadri's and the Arabian Sea. Its timeless temples and beguiling beaches draw a steady stream of pilgrims and tourists. The Om Beach that traces the shape of the Hindu symbol Om is the most popular of Gokarna's Beaches and lends its name to the Om Beach Resort perched on the slopes of hillock overlooking a verdant valley. While Gokarna's temples transcend eras its beaches are throbbing with life. The famous Om Beach, the less known Kudle Beach, the quiet Half Moon Beach and the pristine Paradise Beach are four scenic strips of sand, sandwiched between the hills and the sea. The villages of Sanikatta and Tadadi are located in close proximity to Gokarna. Manufacturing salt for over three centuries, Sanikatta is the oldest salt manufacturing site in Karnataka. Tadadi has a fishing harbour and a fish processing plant set up through an Indo-Danish collaboration. With rugged trekking trails and great outdoors, the adventurous can embark on paths of discovery in and around Gokarna. ... more   less
