Review of Jamont Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Jan 2020via mobile
Called to make a reservation for a night’s stay with my family of 6. Requested for a room that can accommodate all of us. We were travelling with aged parents who have difficulty managing stairs.

They recommended a room that turned out to be near the restaurant. Luckily they are not crowded and its not too noisy. Its also steps to the pool. Room is large but dark, only a couple of light bulbs.

However the toilet is clogged. We asked reception to get it fixed. Instead they gave another room on the same level for us to use thr toilet.

The public beach is about 2mins wal. Its clean and nice. the food park serves cheap good fresh seafood in the evenings with free entertainment.

Friendly staff fighting a hard battle to make up for an awful hotel, with petty rules, pathetic service and average accommodation. Dirty rooms, mosquitoes everywhere, unavailable dishes in the restaurant. To cap it all they want paying in advance for the stay - I'm guessing that's to stop people moving hotels after the first night.

I love the hotel, they have big rooms, good air-conditioning, clean bathroom, friendly staff.

Location as it best, they fresh bread everyday and grocery if you need something. Next to wet market and restos. Beach front and they have swimming pool, though pool is small but good enough for children.

At night there is live band where ko you can eat fresh grilled fish, drink bear and just chill in out.

Evertyhing is walking distance.

Beach is not at its finest but clear and clean.

Email inquiries are fast and you can pay at arrival.

Definitely will be back and recommend to a lot of people.

Hotel accommodation is ok but the staff in the restaurant is not been trained properly. We order for breakfast and it took an hour and a half before we had our order same thing happens during lunch. So we decided to find somewhere to eat and a few meters away there is a food park where we go every meal time for the duration of our stay.

My group arrived in Sipalay without having booked anything, and sat down to find some nice hotel to stay at. We had seen lots of advertising for Jamont Hotel on the drive in, and the images online looked great.
Arriving and checking in went somewhat smoothly, mostly because of my dad's wife who's a Filipina and knows the language.

Upon checking into my room, I immediately found a million mosquitos, and an old sachet of shampoo in the shower. Toilet and bathroom in general appalling condition, and notified the reception who upgraded me to a better room free of charge, which is probably where the positives ends here.

The rooms look nothing like the pictures online, and having fallen for this time and time again in the Philippines we should've asked to see the rooms first. They are generally dirty, and poorly kept. The internet in the room is non-existent, even though there's 4 different Wi-Fi's to choose from, none of them work. If you have a Globe sim-card, don't expect any reception either (even though there's LTE on the beach, don't ask, I couldn't tell you how they've managed this feat).

The staff are generally pleasant and nice, but absolutely not fit for purpose. Ordering two coffee and a bottle water gets you two bottle water and one coffee, and don't get me started on trying to order food, our whole group has been forced to eat ham and cheese sandwiches for every meal, because everything else is "out of stock". We tried to order some dinner last night and they took our order 4 times, coming back out of stock Everytime, even though they actually took the order. Staff has no clue what's in stock and what's not. To make matters even worse, the hotel owns a supermarket, which is located in the same building, and it is very well stocked, the restaurant is out of stock. We ordered OJ for breakfast - out of stock, but the shop outside had a full fridge of ice cold juices. Absolutely no service. For dinner and evenings the only drinks they have is San Miguel, again even though the shop outside had every kind of liquor and wine you could want, the winerack in the restaurant is filled with Pringles.

After being frustrated about our orders all coming back out of stock, I asked the waiter "what can you tell me, with 100% certainty that you have in stock?" and he replied "Sandwich". How this restaurant is still running is beyond me, I have travelled quite a bit and never experienced anything alike.

Got talking to a Scotsman who was visiting with his family, and who'd been in the same hotel two years ago, he said it was the same back then. They should rename the restaurant "Out of Stock".

Oh and having sat in the restaurant and had a few beers, there's absolutely no music playing, even though large speakers are mounted throughout, however at 6am the staff starts having some kind of early 2000s techno/hardstyle party in the car park, which is pretty much in the centre of the hotel rooms, so that was nice.

To sum it all up - my dad's Filipina wife is the most positive I know, I rarely hear her speak a negative word about anything or anyone, and she wanted me to rate this place 0, which is technically not possible, so it got a 1.

Our room for 6 was quite spacious and the A/C worked very well on that hot weekend. However, providing just 1 small bar of soap for the lot of us is simply inadequate while the towels have seen better days. At P500/head, the room rate isn't too high. Food and drinks at the restaurant are surprisingly, very affordable. Being adjacent to the Poblacion Beach with its fine, light brown sand and spectacular sunset view is this hotel's biggest asset. Skill level of the serve staff needs to level up a notch or two. With a good-sized pool, we enjoyed our overnight stay here although there is still room for improvement.
