“Not only Pipi's heaven!!”
Reviewed 4 July 2011

We came to stay for one night and ended up staying for six! The accomodation is unique and shows on one hand the owners passion for creativity and the other hand functionality. Each room has its own topic and is individually furnished and painted. Be prepared to find your room full of little details (the "L" on the keyboard is the Light switch!). The owners are great and take care of everything. Thanks to their kitchen, we learned to love Philippino food! Diving with Marc on the 35 divespots is simple amazing.

We have stayed 16 nights in this lovely resort at the end of our round-the-world-trip and enjoyed every single minute!!! The place is lovely with lots of little quirky details that can be discovered everywhere, all amazingly clean (no idea how they achieve that) and perfectly built.
The food is probably the best we have eaten during our whole journey with lots of different stuff on the huge menu. We have eaten every day (!) at Takatuka and didn't want to try the other resorts in the bay as the food was sooooo good!!! Try the "Amore Mio" pancake - unbelievably good!!!
Diving was superb with lots of fish, small critters but also deep dive sites for the more experienced divers. Our favourite dive sites: Wollux Heaven, the crazy Mad Max pier and West. With only us two on the dive boat and no other divers under water we felt like real VIPs.
The owners Kalle and Cathy, Marc and Rose are very special people and support you with every question, problem, etc. you might have. Hard to explain but you feel at home the very first minute you come into the little resort. Although the world is so big and there are so many places to see we are sure that we will come back to this small paradise one day!

I’ve stayed in many, many hotels in my time, but in terms of quality versus cost, Taka Tuku is right up there with the best. In fact it probably is THE best. There are no roads to Sugar Beach and the nearest airport is 4 hours away so its well off the beaten track, and that’s part of the appeal. There are only 4 hotel/lodges , all hidden in the trees so looking down the beach you don’t even know they’re there. You arrive by boat either from Sipalay or through the mangroves which is what we did. We knew to expect something out of this world from reading reviews of Taka Tuka but nothing we’d read prepared us for or room. We stayed in the jungle themed Bongo Bongo, complete with lifesize native on the balcony, tigers head above the bed and a huge elephants head greeting us as we walked through the door. it’s the tiny decorative details which are present right through the hotel which make the place so special. Whoever designed it must be an artist , engineer and also very weird ! Also, the place was absolutely spotlessly clean. How they manage to maintain it with so many artefacts and nooks and crannies in beyond me. it’s a laid back atmosphere- theres no set time for breakfast for example which is good. The menu in the restaurant is extensive and the food was excellent and inexpensive. Probably the best I had in the Philippines in fact. Next, I must mention the value for money. The price of the room was about £15 per night and you could pay a small amount extra for hot water and A/C. For the quality of the accomodation and the location, this is probably the travel bargain of the century! I’m having to think hard for some negatives-one was that we didn’t get the towels changed during the 2 days we stayed and as we also used the towels as beach towels, they were a bit soiled by the time we left. I also think its worth saying that, in my view, Taka Tuka isn’t a great place for little kids. That may seem odd given the fantasy nature of the place but I think small children, say under 6, wouldn’t really appreciate the humour behind the décor and some of the items may actually scare them! Also there were some kids there when we were, and the various bits and pieces in the restauraunt and grounds were irresistible to small hands and I noticed a couple of things being pulled and prised off. If a lot of families begin to go to Taka Tuka I fear it will soon show signs of wear and tear. For now though Taka Tuka is an absolute gem. 5 stars for everything from me which I don’t think I’ve ever given in over 50 reviews on Trip Advisor.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt so lucky to be here!! Takatuka is a one of a kind place! Every details in the decoration( inside ad out the rooms) are unique but yet look effortless! How long it took to put into form all these crazy ideas is a mystery to me... We had the Superstar room and we were sleeping on nothing less than a cadillac bed!! Where else can you find that in the Philippines?
A big part of the great experience we had during our 7 nights `s stay at Sugarbeach goes to the people working there! It felt like family after the first evening! Our Scuba diving instructors, Marc and Arne gave us the VIP treatment and were so fun and flexible!

The only negative point i will have to say is that after a stay there, you can t help but compare every other place to Takatuka! And none of them were nearly as good!
