After 9 months of travel, we decided to treat ourselves with a little vacation and we could not have picked a better spot. We spent 8 nights in this place and loved every second of it! The owners have clearly put a lot of love, effort, thought and time into their guesthouse and it shows on every level. It is beautifully, surprisingly and playfully decorated, the operative word being ‘crazy’ in the best possible way  We were in the rockadelic room and it was a real treat! The bed was good, the bathroom was great (clean, new, beautifully and practically designed) and they really thought about what a traveler might need: lots of storage space and hooks to put your things, a tv with 20 free movies and dvd-player if you want more (they rent out), they even have a minibar and fridge in each room! We even had a little terrace of our own outside of our room: awesome! Their bar and restaurant follows on the same trend: thought has gone into every decorative detail: from the 'basket' in which they serve the condiments to even the ceiling, the restrooms and everything in between. The quality of their food is exceptional and wouldn't be out of place in any bistro in Europe. Their menu is divers, the recipes creative, the quantity is excellent and the presentation is as beautiful and playful as the rest of their guesthouse. We basically looked forward to feeling hungry so we could try something new... Or choose the same dishes over and over again since they were absolutely delicious :) Staff is professional and friendly and both the owners are excellent hosts and warmhearted people! Sugar Beach in itself is lovely. I actually read some bad reviews about the beach but I guess everything depends on your expectations. No, the sand is not pearlywhite. Yes, high tide throws some 'debris' onto the beach but it being a few coconuts and some twigs (and not trash for example) and just a result of the current and tide, this didn't bother me. What it is, is quiet and secluded and of all the resorts Taka Tuka has by far the nicest stretch of sand with hammocks and beachchairs to lounge about in. They even provide bodyboards and blow-up toys to use in the sea. After 8 months of travel in South-America and 9 in Asia, it is safe to say that Taka Tuka is high up there in our top 3 of best guesthouses we've stayed in so far. I would warmly recommend the beautiful drive (albeit long, but the scenery is stunning!) from Dumaguete (or Bacolod) to Taka Tuka, I wouldn't have wanted to miss this for the world.

Takatuka isn't easy to get to. From the Bacolod airport, you will have to take a 4 hour taxi (or bus, which would take longer) ride, then a quick banka ride. But you understand what the fuss is about when you get there, where you are welcomed by a stretch of unspoiled beach, and the calmest waters.

We spent 5 days just ordering from the restaurant, drinking beers, and staring into the water. They have a very extensive menu, so choose wisely as it was a hit and miss for me. The rooms were definitely fun and given a lot of care and attention. But most of all, the rooms were spotless! We were amazed at how clean the rooms were. Beddings were basic, but to be a honest, a thicker mattress would be nicer. :)

The owners, Cathy and Karl were very accommodating and kind, and quickly attended to all our needs. My only regret is that we didn't dive, as we have heard many good things about the marine life in Sipalay. If only it wasn't so far, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We stayed at Mad Mix which wasn't beach front, but had a lovely balcony, and was quiet. If you w...

The comfort needs of guests vary extremely from one to the other, which makes it difficult to suite everyone a priori. Nonetheless, we spare no efforts to move heaven and earth to meet our guests’ individual convenience. Our housekeeping will immediately prepare an additional mattress for guests who affect sleeping on a softer bed…provided that our guests address the issue…

The Nautilus, our room, was right out of Jules Verne--periscope, portholes, dioramas with crabs, seastars, fish. Theme went a bit too far—spray-painted bucket instead of a bathroom sink ? Privacy and space on our terrace but no sea view.

Best feature : beach front with its clumps of wild pandan. Pretty outdoor restaurant, toes in sand which is pale, fine, like light brown sugar. No bangkas cluttering up the beach, mostly deserted.

You really are far from the madding crowd. 4 hours by taxi Bacolod Airport-Sipalay plus a 10-minute banca ride from Sipalay bridge.

A dive master who doesn’t make an effort to speak English, shucks! Competent, thorough re diving, Ronny geared his language to the Swiss-Germans. No fun being odd one out during surface (coffee & conversation) time.

Minuses: rice a side order, even with Filipino dishes ; every coffee at breakfast is billed. The first three days the water out of the faucet at the sink stank of sulfur, then stopped. Lousy quality of linen.

Pluses : Swiss standards re spotlessness, tidiness--in bedroom, in restaurant, on beach. Food good, bit slow in coming.

Will return with kiddies !

Room Tip: Only two rooms have a sea view, make sure you reserve one of them. The Nautilus is not one of them.

Takatuka is a unique boutique resort, full of surprises and little details, admittedly somewhat crazy. The bucket-style sink in our Nautilus room is part of the theme but in no way a loss of quality. It does not deserve being rated negatively. All our “gimmicks” are designed to be functional to a maximum. As stated on our website, the Nautilus room has no sea view. The spacious balcony faces the garden. Our Instructors and guides are fluent in German and English. In this particular case, conversation was also conducted in French, as the guest came from the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Our menu card follows a modular concept and offers a huge variety of dishes where side orders can be chosen individually according to the taste of our guests. As mentioned in our menu card, every breakfast order comes with 1 free coffee or tea. The water in our bathrooms is drinking quality. However, it is advisable to rinse the pipe system before use, as standing water tends to smell due to the tropical heat. Our high quality bed linens are of light cotton, fitted to be comfortable and cool in tropical climates. Our food orders are generally served promptly. It goes without saying that deliveries of orders can take a little longer if other guests have placed orders shortly before or at the same time. Everything is cooked freshly.

Such a unique experience and one we won't forget. The owners have clearly put their heart and soul into making the resort like no other in every possible way!
From the moment you are met from the boat you know you have arrived in a very special place.
Everything was excellent: the room was massive (a suite in hotel terms), the food was excellent and the menu extensive, the service was efficient and the diving was great too.
These elements, while all great in their own right, are not what make the place so special. We spent the entire first day simply marveling at all the intricate details around every corner. The resort is like Wonka's Chocolate factory! It made my head hurt just trying to imagine the work involved in making each room so special and unique.
Loved it, loved it, loved it.
Just one other thing... taking a breakfast order the night before diving is a stroke of genius and many other resorts could benefit from using a similar system.

After staying 4 nights in April, we have been back again for 15 nights in dec. 2013!

It's still a place that is run with love and passion. It is impossible to say enough good things about the owners Cathy and Kalle. They are ekstraordinairy beautiful people.
The rooms are excellent
Ditto the food
Ditto the staff
One thing to say: GO THERE!

By the way - ask Karl-HeinRICH to see his "moonwalk" - it is always around 9 pm.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique but there are only 9, so book well in advance.

This is a small, exceptionally friendly, delightfully wacky place. Kalli and Cathy are great hosts. MM and Louie run the bar and restaurant. Food is plentiful and varied. A place just to hang and enjoy the beautiful beach and sunsets. If you are so inclined, whether a veteran or rookie, Veronica and Ronny will take care of your diving pursuits. Many gorgeous sites, including two wrecks. We stayed 12 days and hated to leave. Most places are the opposite, you get tired of them and your routines. Not here, you feel like a member of a family.

I loved it and i'll definitely be back.

The way that the resort was designed makes it easy to have fun, relax, or both. It's fun because I don't think you'll run out of entertainment. There's always something new to notice, watch, play with, read, or just enjoy. But it's also relaxing. The staff will pamper you with delicious food in a laid back ambiance. I enjoyed the privacy granted by controlling the number of guests they took in. The sand is clean, but a bit darker and with some drift wood during our visit due to the recent storms. But sunset was gorgeous!

They have a very professional management and staff. They're a step ahead in meeting your needs, if you ever do need or want anything. After settling in, we read their very comprehensive "resort manual" for a short while. As a result, the only time i had to go to the front desk was for extra blankets. The staff cleans the rooms everyday. If they didn't redo the bed, it's probably because your things are on the bed and they're not allowed to touch guests' things :P

I hope more people go here so they can make MORE interesting rooms! :3
