We were aching to get away and relax for a couple days during the craziness between X-mas and New Year’s. We decided on France as it´s close to us and so our daughter could practice her French. And we were fortunate enough to have Maison Mauro pop up during our search. We could only stay for 2 nights but would have stayed for 2 weeks!!! We got an early start and pulled into Prats de Mollo just after noon. And we fell in love with the town as soon as we arrived. A beautiful little village surrounded by snow-capped mountains. We found Maison Mauro right away and as it was early, we really only expected to check in with our hosts and drop off our bags. But we were allowed to "move into" our beautiful, spacious room with a walk-in shower and terrace! Patricia, a local artist, was the first to attend us and show us around. Besides French, she also speaks Excellent Catalan and English. She showed us to our room and it really was like moving in. She and Jean Baptiste and their daughter who was down visiting are so welcoming, it´s like going to visit friends or relatives. Their main concern the whole time was for us to feel at home. And what a home! Everywhere you look, there are beautiful artistic details. But in a totally laidback atmosphere, with a fire always ablaze in the fireplace. Fantastic, comfortable furniture. Wonderful views from the windows. Hundreds and hundreds of books and magazines to read in many different languages. Even a piano, a drum kit and several percussion instruments, all in tune and ready to be played by anyone who wants to. And an internet radio station called France Inter Paris that I´d never heard of playing all day with one of the most incredible and varied selections of music I´ve ever heard (can you tell I´m a musician?). And then we met Jean Baptiste... who had come up to begin preparing the first evening´s dinner. He, like Patricia, is a very interesting, very intelligent person who we loved talking to over our meals. Jean Baptiste is an AMAZING chef who prepared a scrumptious dinner for us, another family that was staying there (who we actually got very close to during our short stay) and themselves, as everyone eats together as a family. He even prepared a special meal for our daughter, who is a VERY picky eater. And she loved it! All served with local wine and tender loving care. Our meal was so good that we really couldn´t imagine ourselves having dinner anywhere else the following evening. So we asked him if we could eat in our second night also and he said sure. What we didn´t know is that he actually had to drive to another town to purchase all the ingredients he needed... and he did!!! And that effort was certainly reflected in our second meal which even surpassed the first... but not at all in the bill when we finally had to leave the next day. Considering the comfort and beauty of the Maison, our wonderful hosts, the incredible Michelin Star restaurant food, the surroundings and the whole "help yourself, feel at home" policy of the house, I must say that it was extremely reasonable if not downright cheap. We would leap at the chance to return and are actually counting the days until that becomes a reality. Thank you Patricia & Jean Baptiste. You made our stay a perfect one!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are gorgeous.

Maison Mauro is cool - close to supercool as a memorable place to stay for 4 nights or more.
French provincial living with an artist and a chef - what could be better?
"Help yourself and make yourself feel at home" was the delightful host's message. Individual styled rooms with a well chosen selection of modern and antique furniture pieces, walk-in en-suite shower rooms, a huge open plan communal kitchen and living area and a treasure trove of a library with books in many languages. But above all the ambience created by the hosts who joined us for dinner with a friend or three when we asked them to cook for us. It was the perfect place in a perfect spot. Great home cooking, Lovely outside living on the patio.
LOVED IT!

Room Tip: All three of the first floor rooms are a delight. NB Local swimming pool just below the hotel ins...

We thoroughly enjoyed our few days here. We parked the car and did not use it again until we checked out.
The owner was very friendly and helpful and served a good breakfast each morning.
Our room was extremely spacious and airy and our terrace was a lovely space to sit outside.
We travelled with our dog, who was also made very welcome and he particularly enjoyed the lovely walks we found.
The atmosphere at Maison Mauro was very peaceful and relaxing. It is 5 minutes stroll to the walled medieval village and on the doorstep for a number of treks into the mountains and the fort.
We will return again to such a lovely panoramic area.
