We were so looking forward to a warm spring vacation in the southwest of France, and instead it rained and rained, wet and cool, sometimes cold. Kate and Stephen more than made up for our disappointment in the weather, and made our stay sensational. Everything is perfect at Le Petit Chateau without being stuffy. The setting is spectacular, especially when the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees emerge right outside your bedroom window. The decor is tasteful, period appropriate, and has a clean, almost zen feel at times--just lovely. And we truly appreciated the lavish breakfasts, which allowed us to linger in the morning. But really, the creme de la creme is Stephen and Kate's warm, exceptional hospitality. There are too many examples to cite, but one stands out for me. One morning we took advantage of a sun break and walked into town to have lunch, but by the time we finished, it was pouring rain. We started our way up the hill, angling our flimsy umbrellas to avoid the brunt of the shower, and five minutes into our walk, Stephen and Kate pulled up beside us in their car. "Care for a lift?" Stephen said, "We thought we'd find you here." As they say, that is priceless.

We were sad to leave and we fully intend to return next time we are in the region.

We cannot find the words to adequately paint a picture that Le Petit Chateau and its owners, Kate and Stephen, truly deserve. We thoroughly concur with all Simon's comments in his review below. Our memories of our three day stay have been repeated time and time again to our friends, family and neighbours. Infact, it is a perfect excuse to hold a dinner party in order to find a friend or relative to relate every detail of this "jewel in the crown" chic retreat. Our splendid bedroom suite, impeccably clean and exquisitely furnished, set the scene for what was to follow - pure perfection in every way. My husband and I enjoyed three exceptional evenings hosted by Kate and Stephen with lovingly prepared, delicious home made cooking. We have missed their company very much since our return home and are already planning a second visit next year to celebrate two special occasions which we know only Kate and Stephen will make that extra special!

We have stayed at Le Petit Chateau twice now. What an absolute gem - we can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment you arrive, Stephen and Kate treat you like friends. It is very easy to forget that this is a commercial establishment, such is the friendly family atmosphere you enjoy here. You become houseguests of the owners from the moment you are welcomed until the moment you leave. My wife and I have just returned from an all too brief 3-night stay. We were accompanied by our two young children, (8 and 2) and by my elderly parents (both in their 80’s). Nothing was too much trouble. Within half an hour of our arrival, and a quick freshen up, we were enjoying drinks on the terrace with Stephen while Kate prepared a delicious meal.

On the second night, we only wanted something light as we had eaten out earlier in the day. We ended up dining with the owners, having a lovely supper buffet of salads, charcuterie, pates and local cheeses.

Before retiring, we were asked what time we’d like breakfast. Next morning, we wandered downstairs to find a lovely selection of cereals, juices, fresh fruit, yoghurts and delicious breads and sweet pastries that Stephen had just collected from the nearby town of Marciac. He even bought us copies of our favourite English newspapers. Breakfast al-fresco against the backdrop of the Pyrenees was delightful.

By the time we left, we felt a twinge of sadness. We have stayed in some very exclusive hotels yet never felt less like clients and more like guests than when staying with Stephen and Kate.

The house, grounds and pool area provide plenty to occupy young children and the owners were equally welcoming of our 2 as they were of the adults – We even found our 8 year old son in their kitchen chatting with Kate as she was preparing food, and on another occasion, Stephen helping our 2 year old daughter finish off her tea. On our journey home, she was repeating his name in the car… praise indeed !!

I could go on at length about the many merits of Le Petit Chateau, but in the end, it is the people who run it that make it so memorable.

We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Situated in a very peaceful area of France, the house has been beautifully restored to a very high standard, with lovely decor and fine furnishings. The room we had for 3 nights was fantasic, again beautifully decorated and with a huge bathroom. We had excellent food, delicious breakasts and 4-course evening meals, including wine. How relaxing it was to sit by the swimming pool in the peace and quiet of the gardens. Stephen and Kate are excellent hosts and if we could have stayed for longer, we would have. We will definately go back.

I knew from the photos I’ve seen that Le Petit Chateau was going to be quite something but even so I was amazed when we arrived. It was absolutely fabulous! It was much bigger then expected, every room very airy.

Le Petit Chateau is done up to a very high standard and all the rooms are beautiful decorated. You can still feel it is an old building with history and character.

I loved every minute spent at Le Petit Chateau and can’t wait to go back. It was very hard to leave and this was much up to Stephen and Kate (owners) who took great care of us.

Since we rented the whole place they where there when requested (i.e. breakfast that we’d asked to have served in the mornings) and then we were left to the privacy expected when renting a house like this. However it was lovely to have them there, they were extremely helpful and very likeable. I was sad to say goodbye to them. They are lovely and so good at what they are doing. The perfect hosts with the perfect little Chateau!

Room Tip: All bedrooms are great, all with superb en suites.

We stayed at Le Petit Chateau for our Wedding Celebrations at the beginning of June. Kate & Stephen are fantastic hosts, we wanted for nothing, beautiful house and surrounding grounds made this the perfect venue for us , our family and close friends. We had a small intimate wedding ceremony in relaxed but grand surroundings. The food and service was fabulous, everyone is still talking about it.

Breakfast sitting out on the terrace was lovely, not to mention all the yummy pastries !!

If you are looking for a romantic get away in the peaceful setting of this wonderful region this lovely hotel is just perfect. We certainly will want to return for another stay very soon. Thank you Le Petit Chateau for making our day so special.

The chateaux itself has been brought back to life to it's full potential by Kate and Steve, and what a job they have achieved. The area itself is a fantastic training area if you are a cyclist. My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and loved every minute. Hope you have as good a time as we had.
