“little gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2013

Went to a friends 50th Bday.. stayed one night somewhere else, awful experience.A friend recommended this little bijou gem and I could have spent the rest of my life at La Baguenaude. Peaceful, Tranquil, Charming and Beautifully appointed.

Often the weight of your experience is not just down to location and decor but to the spirit of the place. The spirt of La Baguenaude is Rosemary. From her endless charm and enthusiasm to her amazing breakfasts and "confitures" this lady and her warmth as a hostess makes the oveall experience one you will want to repeat..

Room Tip: choose a room at the back by the pool area if possible as the French are early risers and like to em...

wonderfully luxurious, welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Quiet; lovely pool. rooms clean, full of astonishing art works. Rosemary was exceptionally friendly, unobtrusive and helpful. We stayed with our 16 year old daughter who loved it as we did.

We enjoyed a delightful five days staying at La Baguenaude in Marciac whilst we traipsed around the Gers countryside. With my husband and I, our 9 year old daughter and our cousin, we shared two beautifully appointed rooms, and enjoyed relaxing by the pool. Rose-Marie spoilt us with delicious breakfast and coffee each morning. It was hard to leave! We shared the gardens and Rose-Marie's hopsitality with our friends who now live near Lupiac so that they can pass on this wondeful recommendation to any other visiting Australians. We hope to return one day!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are stylish, beautifully appointed and comfortable. Charming!

What an amazing hotel to stay in the centre of Marciac.

Lovely décor and an exceptionally friendly and helpful host. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for couples and friends, not sure its a family place though but I could be wrong. Breakfast was excellent

Book in advance especially during the Jazz Festival

Room Tip: Book in advance

This is a truely special place. My husband and I had a lovely holiday here while visiting Marciac to attend our friends' wedding. La Baguenaude has character, the furnishings are lovely and the property opens out onto a beautful garden and pool at the back. Our room was very comfortable and had views of the garden. Our host Rose-Marie was delightful and incredibly patient and accommodating with our limited French. There is a wonderful energy here and it is one of those special places you will remember for a long time to come.

My wife and I (+ 3yr old daughter) were in town for a friends wedding and had the pleasure of staying at La Baguenaude for three glorious nights. Our friends who flew in from Australia, NZ, London and Asia also stayed here renting all of the rooms so we had the place all to ourselves, including the wonderfully manicured garden and thoroughly relaxing pool area.

Rose-Marie (Manager) attended to all of our needs perfectly and with such grace and patience - removing the English/French language barrier that existed. She made all of us feel extremely welcome in the modern rustic surroundings which are very well maintained and extremely private.

We stayed in a room separate from the main house with direct access to the rear courtyard/pool area which was a touch too small for three of us, but was the only room available so we snapped it up. I think it was called 'Courrier', or something like that. That said, it was comfortable, quiet, and the shutters kept out the wonderful morning sunlight allowing us to have a very restful sleep.

Unfortunately our daughter came down with a mild temperature making the last night a little troublesome, rising for breakfast at 11am. That didnt bother Rose-Marie however, as she had kept everything out for us and even made us fresh coffee/tea upon arrival at the table - despite us being over an hour late!

Merci, Rose-Marie! We loved every moment of our stay and will recommend your home to all our friends and family. A bientôt!

Room Tip: Shanghai Blues is a larger room however the bathroom (exclusively for this room) is 10metres down th...

Choosing holiday accommodation in Europe can be a bit of a lucky dip, with some ordinary experiences but I luckily found an absolute gem when we booked La Baguenaude Maison d'Hotes in the small town of Marciac for our last three nights in France, from 25-27 May, 2012 before returning to Tasmania, Australia. We did have to take the only room available which is named Shanghai Blues but it was large and comfortable, though some guests may not like that the bathroom is outside the room it did not bother us too much. It does face the street so could be a bit noisy but the windows are double glazed and kept the noise at bay. Next time, and we hope there is one, we will book early and choose one of the lovely rooms overlooking the gorgeous pool and walled garden

Rose-Marie is the consummate host, welcoming and friendly, on a very warm French late spring afternoon when we arrived ......how nice was the glass of rose and the cold beer! Later on a swim in the good sized salt water pool and for me, the obsessive gardener an exploration of the pretty surrounding garden filled with tumbling roses and perennials. Rose-Marie gives that little bit extra to her guests....on our last morning she served home made Banana Bread after searching the internet to see what Australians liked for breakfast. Bruce was in seventh heaven and even more delighted to be given some to eat on the road!

Marciac itself is also a little treasure and has a wonderful medieval square with a covered arcade surrounding it, making it lovely and cool for eating outside at the half dozen or so eating places all within a very easy stroll of La Baguenaude.....and that is something we like to have the ability to do when we are travelling as we are unable to do it where we live in Tasmania. Its twin churches with similar amazing spires are intriguing as is the surrounding area. The Gers is not over run with tourists and we loved its quiet rural charm and easy driving. Also the Brocante and Vide Greniers! The vineyards and beautiful rural vistas and attractive villages and towns. The French people we spoke to were amazed that we were there, and asked why? It has a lot to recommend it so we would say check it out if you are planning a trip to France.

Bruce and I would very happily recommend both La Baguenaude and Marciac to all....we just wish we could have stayed a couple more days. Sigh......!!!
