Traditional auberge décor, a friendly welcome, a comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast buffet. No dinner served but local restaurants are within walking distance. For skiers, the local bus shuttle connects to the lifts.

Room tip: Our room was on the side of the main road, but even so was quiet enough.

The rooms are small, very basic. The place is expensive for what you are getting. Breakfast is not included in the room and is also expensive.
There is rarely somebody at the front desk so that you wonder about safety since one leaves the keys there.
The first morning, a gray morning, we were having a pastry and a coffee on the hotel patio ( nobody else was there because it was cloudy and early). We had bought these around the corner at the local bakery. The owner came out on nowhere and without the usual polite greeting literally aggressed us verbally telling us it was forbidden to do this and that it was against the hotel rules to eat/drink products that were not bought at the hotel. No "hello, did you know that..." nothing but verbal abuse. It was terrible and he made us feel like we had broken a really big rule. Frankly, that morning, nobody was there and we did not want to buy a full breakfast at the hotel. All we wanted was a coffee and a croissant. The lady, behind the desk, probably his wife was very unfriendly too. I would not recommend people stay in that hotel even though it is a lovely location.

We visited Auberge Le Beau Site on a road trip around Europe. Out of all of the locations we stayed it has to be the strangest (apart from Hôtel de l'Hospice - which is expected to be different). Upon arriving the lady on reception was efficient, if a little unfriendly, and the room was clean if a little dated. All around the hotel there are a number of "Do not ..." signs, it gives the impression of a military camp rather than a relaxing hotel room. We felt on edge throughout our stay!

We (thankfully) only stayed one night, and we were woken at around 6.30am by someone getting the cleaning stuff out of the cupboard next to our room and proceeding to vacuum the corridor! Given all of the "Do not ..." signs it felt as though the guests weren't that welcome!

If we revisited Les Houches or the Chamonix area I would definitely look elsewhere for accommodation.

My wife and I have just returned from doing the Tour de Mont Blanc in June 2014.Le Beau Site is a wonderful and comfortable Hotel to stay at before as well as after the Tour de Mont Blanc. Greats hosts accepted us on our arrival as well as when we returned. They store your extra baggage whilst you are on Tour. The breakfast was great as well. Les Houches is a wonderful village-enjoy it.

Room tip: We had a room on either side both were very good

We unexpectedly were placed into this hotel by our insurance company when we found ourselves stranded without accommodation or a car on a recent ski trip during school half term (a long story!). The owner was so helpful from the start. Firstly she opened the hotel early in the morning (6.30) so we could seek refuge there, then she arranged for a room to be cleaned super quick after the previous occupants had left to enable us to catch up on our sleep as we had been awake all the previous night. Not only that but she allowed us to have breakfast earlier than normal knowing that we were hungry as well as tired. All of this was very thoughtful and totally beyond the expected and made us feel very welcome. We are two adults and a teenage boy and we stayed at the hotel in a triple room for three nights and can thoroughly recommend it for any visit to Les Houches. It is right in the middle of town opposite a main bus stop so excellent for those without a car. The rooms are pleasantly decorated, was warm and cosy and the whole of the hotel is spotless and fresh. I believe most rooms have a balcony which is lovely to sit on both in winter and summer. Breakfast (which is paid for as an extra so you don't have to have it) is of a high quality with big white jugs of lovely coffee, a fine selection of local cheeses, meats and breads, as well as hot scrambled egg and bacon, cakes, fruit, yoghurt and fresh croissants. In the basement is a huge boot room where you can leave your ski gear to dry. The hotel has the benefit of free wifi and we had an excellent connection with no problems throughout our stay (unusual in our experience!). The owner continued to help (without being intrusive) throughout our stay providing information on buses etc when asked. All in all a super little place, very homely and well run. We hope to return next year and can't recommend it highly enough.
