“Wonderful Place to Stay”
Reviewed 27 June 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Slalom. Tracey was a wonderful host; she was warm, friendly, and very helpful as we planned our itinerary in the area. We liked the hotel’s beautiful location, away from the hubbub of Chamonix. Plus, the best croissants on our trip!

Am glad I followed the reviews on this website for this hotel. We were there for 02 nights and I would highly recommend it to anyone going for a peaceful stay, while still being close to chamonix sp. if u have a drive in hand. Tracy gave the personal touch which big hotels lack. The rooms were spic n span and the views were excellent. And to top it all she's got a great collection of books n DVDs in case u come across a bad weather.

Really the Chamonix region is hard to beat but honestly Hotel Slalom just topped it off for us. It provided a safe, friendly, homely place to stay and we loved it. Tracey was great and detected at breakfast we might be struggling with continental style so made us great scrambled eggs which was greatly appreciated. Room was good in size with huge bathroom. For the price you can't go wrong. Will be recommending and trying to figure aceay to comeback in ski season.

Hotel slalom is run by Tracy who is an English lady who is both welcoming and warm. The place is perfect. It's clean, modern and has heaps of natural light. Tracy advised us of great day walks and trips and was constantly on hand if we had questions. The view from our room was breathtaking and we really didn't want to leave. The cheapest and best hotel in our trip.

Amazing place! Perfect! Tracey the owner of the hotel will greet you at the door when you get there with her addictive smile and kindness! It is truly like a home away from home and you feel like the staff is there to serve you and make sure your trip is the best it possibly can be. Air Canada lost my luggage and Tracey called them for me several times to translate the French and to make sure all was working out (as the language barrier can be quite extreme at some times). I was grateful for this and it lowered my stress tremendously! She was so usefull when it came to things to do around Les Houches and Chaminox and knew the owners of all the stores around as it is a very quaint town. This hotel is located 10minutes away from Chamonix (which is larger), however, it is located in Les Houches which is a beautiful little town and the hotel is located directly at the base of the skihill! Literally ski in, ski out! Amazing!

The view from any room is spectacular and of the alps in either direction. All rooms have balcony's with shutters! The cleanliness of the hotel is second to none with a very homely feel to it! You can really tell that care was taken in preparing the rooms every day! The bar in the hotel was probably my favorite place to be. People would come after skiing to watch the games on tv and the atmosphere was great! I cant say enough about the layout of the hotel! It is so unique, so quaint, yet so comfortable that you never want to leave. Breakfast in the mornings was fantastic. Home cooked in the kitchen!

I have already recommended this to all of my friends and think it was the best part of our trip to france! What an amazing place! Now stop reading reviews and just book it and GO THERE already! :)

I would really like to give the Hotel Slalom five stars which it deserves in some ways. But, objectively speaking, there are one big and several small problems here that make this a three-star review, based on what is important to me personally. If you have different preferences, this may well be a four- or five-star place for you. That said...
A quiet, clean, well-ventilated and temperature-controlled room with a bed that supports a good night’s sleep is what every hotel should deliver to its customers. Anything beyond that is luxury. The Hotel Slalom, if you are unlucky, does not deliver the quiet part. However much was invested in the renovation of this building and the fixtures, apparently there was no budget at all for sound insulation. The walls between at least some of the rooms are simply gypsum with nothing else (one should at least insert one if not two layers of glass) and the doors are very light and basic. Accordingly, if you are unlucky, you will hear your neighbours full blast, the banging doors full blast (and they do bang) and people in the corridors full blast.
The saving factor is the nature of this hotel, especially in winter. People come here to ski and to hang out at the bar downstairs. Because everybody is either tired or at the bar, there is very little action on the rooms, normally. I was lucky enough to sleep well at all times. But I feel sorry for the guest who has to endure a noisier neighbor than I had. Other little minuses: no electric kettle/coffee maker on the room, no laundry facility in the house (and the next coin laundry not in walking distance), no space/bench to work on a snowboard, bath tub way too small for an average to large male European, and chairs on the room uncomfortable.
These little minuses are really balanced by the plusses though, first and foremost the overall quality of the rooms and the service team. Tracey, the owner, and her ladies are great. Very personable, likeable, and sincerely trying to help with any requests guests have. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and tastefully appointed in a modern style and a pleasure to return to after a long day on the slopes. The location is also great, within one minute’s walk to the Bellevue gondola and three or four restaurants. In terms of value, this is a top choice – if you are lucky with the neighbours. Since nobody has yet complained about noise on this website, perhaps you, too, will have no problems?

I visited this hotel for a "weekend" ski trip with 2 mates. Tracey is great, friendly, efficient, and a lovely hostess. Beth and Heather are "fab" - together they run a lovely little hotel.
It is stylish, well equipped, clean, fun, had the rugby on the TV. Yes, it's a "top place"-equally good for a romantic mini ski break as "lads trip". Well done girls!
