“Visit to Mont Blanc”
Reviewed 25 September 2010

First visit to Hotel Slalom and we were given a warm welcome by Tracy to this lovely hotel set is this spectacular part of the world.
The room was very nice and the views were fantastic, mountains filled every window.
There was plenty to see and do and our visit ended all to soon, a sure sign we'd enjoyed ourselves.

Best hotel we've stayed in! Everything you could possibly want from an Alpine retreat - views, comfort, food and drink. Handy for local transport and ski lifts. Friendly staff and happy to accommodate dietary requirements. Highly recommended!

My husband and I spent just two nights at this hotel and wished we had two weeks! We can't say enough about our experience. We arrived at noon, tired from a long day of travel from the States by way of Geneva, and were greeted by Mikaela (Micki) who could not have been more friendly and welcoming. She rushed to get our room ready while we had lunch next door. Our room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The bathroom was lovely and the tub heavenly. The best part was the view - our shutters opened onto a balcony with a clear shot of Mont Blanc. The gondola was directly across the street and we spent the whole 2nd day hiking. Les Houches is about a 10 minute drive from Chamonix and a darling little village. We were so glad we stayed there vs. Chamonix as we wanted a quiet, quaint village. We can't say enough about Tracy, the owner. She was so sweet and helpful. She gave us great recommendations for hiking and to a restaurant across the street (Le Basilic) where we had one of the best meals of our lives. We were heartbroken when we had to leave and would return in a second.

We just returned from a two night stay in Chamonix (actually Les Hoches just down the road) where we stayed at Hotel Slalom.

Was fantastic all around.

First the hotel. It was tidy and well appointed. The room were nice and large and we had a great view of Aguille De Midi, the roaring river down the valley, and the whole Mont Blanc Massif. She wasn't kidding that every room had a view as the the hotel is on a rise looking over the valley.

The room amenities were modern and no issues with the usuals - water pressure, cleanliness, etc. Top rate.

The owner, Tracey, was prehaps the best part. She was really welcoming, spent some real time with us to get us situated and answer any questions, and on one evening we hung out in the pub that she has as part of the hotel and just chatted. Really nice. And the person who helps her in the morning, Michaela, was just as wonderful and warm.

But probably the best part is the location. While Trip Advisor says they are in Chamonix, they are really in La Hoche, the town right next to Chamonix. So instead of the very compressed Chamonix with all of the tourists we were in a town that really felt like a village. Very nice and relaxed, quiet street, etc. And the hotel is right across the street from a ski lift that operates all summer. So we took it to the top of the mountain (close to the glacier) and then hiked across the ridge line a bit and then down hiking trails back into town. Really a wonderful memory - beautiful views, nice workout, etc.

A lovely place to be all around.

There were two good restaurants in town. Would definitely go with Le Delice. A 10 minute walk from the hotel. Wonderful food, outdoor veranda with great views. And on the night we were there they had live music (acoustic).

The other restaurant is Le Basilic. It was really good food as well - but lacked service and the view.

Went back for our 2nd visit August 2010, fabulous little hotel, clean, well presented, but the best thing about this place is that you are made to feel at home. Would recommend it to anyone going to the area, you wont be disappointed!

Good points: The hotel slalom is essentially a boutique hotel. From the outside it looks much the same as other hotels, but once you go inside you are in for such a treat! The rooms are all very spacious and have been lovingly refurbished to an exceptional standard. Each room has a balcony and traditional shutters, which means you get a lovely night's sleep and in the summer (even at 34 degrees) , the room is lovely and cool and there is no need for air conditioning. There is a decent sized flat screen TV which gets BBC and there is also a DVD player with a selection of DVDs downstairs to choose from. The double bed was large and very comfortable and our bathroom was spacious with a fantastic bath, perfect for a long soak after a hard day's hiking in the alps (and presumably just as good for dealing with a hard day on the slopes in winter).
Breakfast was superb, with croissants, french bread, danish pastries, a choice of cereal, jams and tea, coffee and juice. There was also a selection of cold meats and cheese. There is a bar with a great selection of drinks including spirits (and campari!), together with a wide screen TV for sporting events. We were there for the football world cup final and there was a mix of guests, locals and residents of other hotels. If you are there in the winter, it is a ski in/out hotel and there is a boot room. The hotel also has its own car park.

The best point of the hotel though is the hospitality and service. Tracey and Micki were excellent hostesses and could not do enough for us, including rjigging the room plan so we could stay an extra night to go see the nearby Tour de France stage. It really felt like we were home from home and we will definitely be going back at some point. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Les Houches is also a 5 minute drive from Chamonix and the hotel is situated next to the main Teleferique cable car, surrounded by several bars/restaurants and about a 10 minute walk from the main Les Houches village.

Negative: Some people commented about the lack of kettle in the rooms, but in our opinion this was unnecessary since Tracey and Micki were very accomodating and would give you tea and coffee to take up to your room if needs be. We certainly had no complaints. Our only comment would be that if people think that it is pricey compared to other establishments nearby, that is because you get what you pay for. In this case, a fantastic hotel, with great, comfortable and spotless rooms, excellent facilities, and unbeatable service. This was truly a remarkable find and we are so pleased we stayed there.

I'm sure if you have read all the other reviews by the time you get to mine you will have already booked this place!
We stayed at Hotel Slalom over the Easter holiday had such a fabulous experience. Tracey, Heather and Justin where the loveliest people to stay with and where more than happy to help us with anything. The place is impeccably clean and has very comfortable beds-an essential after a long day skiing. It is a fab location if you are skiing as you can ski pretty much right to the door and the cable car to get up to Les Houches is a 1 minute walk.

Near the hotel are a few fabulous restaurants-we ended up eating in Les Houches nearly every night as they were so good!

To top it off there is bar downstairs with a great vibe where we met some lovely people.
Hope you are having a fab trip Don and Carol!

Thanks to Tracey, Heather and Justin for making our stay so enjoyable-I hope we are back soon!
