“Run Down - Last Option”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2012

This hotel is aptly named ANTIK as it is old and an antique. If you are traveling for an extended periond, beware of luggage as there is no lift or elevator to the upper floors. The rooms are painfully small and dark. Also be aware of your intended payment form as the do not accept AmEx so you better have cash or another card option. This is the last resort for me when I am in town. The only bright note is the restaurant. The outdoor courtyard is pleasant and the food is very good. Parking is a serious challenge. Although there is not a fee for parking, there is a severe shortage of available spots. If you can, strongly suggest you consider the other options in Aalen.

Room Tip: If you have very much luggage strive for a ground level room.

Have stayed here on eight or nine occasions, over the last 15 years, and always found it to be convenient - for access to the town - clean and friendly. All the rooms I've had have always been more than adequate for my needs with plenty of space. Bathrooms and showers have always been good. Televisions are old style. Computer access at reception is free. Furnishing is sort of baroque, which some might find quirky, but I find it to have a certain unique charm. The hotel has the feel of being run by a family which gives it a character, rather than by sterile national chain. Breakfast is varied and more than adequate.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the main road - which can be noisy.

We had an appartment this time, it was huge! Sadly very near the road which was a little problem for me but not my wife and son. Breakfast good and plenty of it. Good restaurant, all of the staff helpful. It may need an update but its clean in a good location and we dont really have any complaints

Room Tip: Room away from the road is best for a quiet night

I've been to City Hotel Antik in Aalen for some nights during an orchestral tournée. Of course there's always a little difference between an organized trip (like our was) and travelling alone. My experience with the hotel was very good regarding the structure, which is really nice and very well refurbished. The hotel is very big, with many common spaces to seat and chat, and most of them are furnished with brocantage objects, that someone could classify as “kitsch", but I loved them, 'cause everything gave me the sensation of a great care for details.
Some of the girls at the reception/breakfast room seemed a little too distant, or appeared annoyed at our presence, and it wasn't very easy to be helped when necessary. Anyhow, I understand it can be stressful to manage a group... And, most important, rooms where big, common spaces too (with a big beautiful teapot infuser at guests' disposal in the lobby), cleanliness very appreciated, and the variety of breakfast too.

Good: Location (central Aalen); service (nice people).
Bad: Well... Just about everything else. The small rooms smell funny, the air is damp and unfresh unless window is kept open. Through ventilation hole(only present in bathroom) only the cigarette smoke is coming in, presumably from other rooms. Bathroom does not ventilate at all. Shower leaks under the glass door to bathroom floor, bad design. Bed is wide (large single bed) but something is funky with matrace since i was sweating whenever i was on it. Rest of the furniture is old and damaged. TV , though has anout 99 channels, is small old behind table (unwatchable from bed due to orientation) and it has an extremely bright blue LED standby. Has to be shadowed with an object or tv set disconnected, otherwise no sleep in that room.
Breakfast looked impressive at first, but the multifruit juice turned out to be "antik" too, was fermenting! Coffee was also nothing to write about.
All in all, was ok for the 55 euro but not recommended.

This hotel was nice. It was a "Bett & Bike". This by far was the worst hotel experience of our 800 mile bicycle trip across Europe. We arrived exhausted after 7 hours of cycling. I first walked in and the front desk woman quoted me a price, I asked to see the room and she refused to allow me to see the room. Very unusual for Europe. She said it was managment's policy not to allow potential guests to preview a room. I went to discuss it with my wife. My wife went back in to secure a room and the price had gone up 15 Euros in 30 seconds. Front desk girl's excuse was she made a mistake. She also made us pay upfront for this room, instantly.

She was unprofessional and just plain inconsiderate. We certainly would have not stayed here if we were not thoroughly exhausted. Our second choice in hotel was closed due to renovations.

Room was nice, however there is Pizza restaurant that is part of the hotel. The smell emminated throughout the hotel.

Cannot tell you if the Pizza restaurant was any good as we refused to eat there due to the terrible front desk woman!

Breakfast was crowded and it is obviously management's decision to put small amounts of meat/cheese on the buffet line. Therefore they were constant out of meats and the woman servicing the breakfast line was too busy to replentish the food while trying to attend to the coffee maker.

For 98 Euros, this hotel was Pathetic in customer service. And it ruined this Hotel!!!!
