I had booked one of the lake-view rooms for one night after having cycled from Munich to Chiemsee (which is a lovely bike ride). The hotel is slightly outside Rimsting, and seems to be pretty much alone by the lake.
It is a family run Gasthof, and the owner was very friendly and did everything she could to make me feel comfortable during my stay. She doesn't speak much English from what I could gather, but was very accomodating to my broken German. There is a traditional bar and restaurant downstairs serving a wide selection of dishes, I had the argentinian steak on the evening and it was delicious.
The best thing about this hotel though, is that it is literally 20 metres from the Chiemsee. The view from my balcony on the morning was spectacular. There is an area outside to relax by the lake, although in November that wasn't advisable for me.
My room was basic but very clean and good value for €45 per night including a hearty breakfast of cured ham, cheese and boiled egg, with bread and jams, and coffee plus orange juice.
Upon leaving, I cycled on to Prien beside the lake and arrived at the boat to Herreninsel and beyond within 15 minutes.
Overall, a delightful and relaxing stay - highly recommended.
