We were greeted by friendly staff and then wowed by our room. Every aspect of our needs was catered to, even late housekeeping service after a very lazy morning. We decided to eat out on the evenings but the breakfast was great, everything you could want. Stunning views of the surrounding area and very tranquil, just what we needed. Not too far from local attractions. All in all a very pleasant weekend. We will almost certainly return and recommend to our friends and family. Thank you

We stayed for 3 nights. Though we only ate at the hotel for breakfast, the food was nice. The bars where lovely, the pool was great though a tad cool.
This is a very much family orientated hotel which has a library, tennis & squash courts, pool and sauna, children's outside play park, golf course and a mile long woodland walk. The staff where friendly and helpful.
We booked 2 rooms together but on arrival where given rooms on different floors, but eventually we were given rooms next door though not adjoining which would have been better. We had a problem with our tv freezing up and losing the picture and though we reported it nothing was done about it. The fridge/cooler in the other room was actually heating up our drinks instead of chilling them. Again this was reported but nothing was done about it during our stay.
And one other complaint we had was while we where in the swimming pool , our room was serviced but the maid left our door ajar and left bleach in our bathroom where our kids could have picked it up. Our phones were left in the room and as we had only gone for a quick dip but luckily although the door was ajar, nothing had gone missing.

Nice welcome at reception by friendly staff. We were given an upgrade as my husband is a platinum Best Western card holder. We were in the pavilion building which is a short walk from the main building. We were on the top floor and had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the countryside. The bathroom was large with separate shower and bath, plenty of toiletries and towels and bathrobe. Large bed and 2 easy chairs and small fridge. My only criticism is that although there was a coffee machine, kettle, tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room there were no fruit teas. Breakfast was very good (and this is good for me as we are picky as we have eaten in 4* and 5* hotels around the world), plenty of choice of fruit, cereals, yoghurt, pastries, cooked hams and the traditional cooked breakfast, with both fried and scrambled eggs and poached eggs cooked to order, or you can eat from the A La Carte menu for things like omelettes. Plenty of staff on duty of breakfast who were very good and attentive. Would not hesitate to stay here again

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony overlooking countryside

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, as I think some other reviewers have said. On the positive side, the hotel is in a nice setting with some of the pavilion rooms overlooking stunning scenery of the Gloucestershire countryside and golf course. The welcome at the hotel was also very good and attentive, and a £5 discount voucher to use anywhere in the hotel bars or restaurants was a nice thoughtful touch. We booked a room in the pavilion suite, (sadly overlooking the car park not the countryside), but nonetheless the room was excellent with huge comfy bed, separate walk in shower and small balcony with table and chairs. However, my partner thought that the pavilion building itself was rather odd and likened it to walking into a doctors clinic or modern public library.

Once we checked in and got our room we decided to use the pool and were rather disappointed with it. It is in the old part of the building and its age surely shows! Compared to most hotels with leisure facilities these days it is poor in terms of decor and quality. Firstly is the fact that you walk by what seems to be a private house right next to the entrance to the building to get to the pool area, where the owners are clearly seen in their lounge watching tv and resident cat outside on path. Never seen anything like it before!! The changing rooms are circa early 1980s when I expect the facilities were built. Most strangely the sauna is actually INSIDE the changing rooms so it kind of forces you to go singly into the one for your particular gender - no taking a sauna with your partner unless you are same sex!

The pool is nice although not large (sort of hexagonal shape) and the sectioned off area with young children larking about and naturally being quite loud was rather distracting. Adults are forced therefore into the very deep area of 7ft when children are in the pool, so this could be an issue if you are not a good swimmer and like to feel your feet on the bottom. The adult jacuzzi had totally lost its power, was much too hot and hardly any bubbles were produced although the jacuzzi designated for kids only was working perfectly!

The hotel restaurants were like chalk and cheese. Christopher's Carvery is tired, dated and like feeding time at the zoo as another reviewer has said. On the night we stayed it was very hot and it would have been unbearable to eat in there as there is no air con. We chose to eat in the Tawny's restaurant and actually ate outside in the courtyard area. The menu had limited choice and some quite odd things like Soup as a main course (huh?) but the food was excellent and service was again friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend it over Christopher's if you are a couple or travelling without children. However I know the hotel are trying to cater for all budgets so a Carvery is a good option, but it needs to be refreshed with new flooring, a fresh coat of paint to the walls and woodwork and air conditioning in the main part of the restaurant. I heard from other guests that the food was good in there so it's only the decor that lets it down. Breakfast buffet is served in here too and has a reasonable selection and some things can be cooked to order. Avoid the sausages which are not good quality, cheapest you can get variety, but the rest is ok. Service is friendly and quick which is a bonus.

The bars in the hotel are cosy and welcoming and Bens bar offers 100 different whiskies to choose from if that is your tipple. Overall, this is an adequate hotel that could be fabulous if a bit of money was spent on it updating some of the tired areas and bringing the pool area up to the standards expected these days.
If you are looking for chic, modern hotel with high quality pool and spa facilities, the nearby Four Pillars Cotswold Water Park Hotel is a better choice for about the same money. If you want traditional and don't mind the rough edges and quirkiness of this hotel, then you will be fine staying here.

Room Tip: Choose an executive room in the pavilion for more space and large bathroom. Eat in Tawny's res...

Dear Corsicarla,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of Blunsdon House Hotel with the Trip advisor community, its nice to see that your experience was largely positive.

The house that you mention is that of the hotels founder, who has lived on site and owned the hotel since its inception in 1959. As you note, the hotel has grown and spread with its success over a number of years which accounts for its unique layout.

At Blunsdon we cater for an exceptionally large customer base, from corporate guests to families with small children - all with varied demands; some of which may conflict. We have done our very best to design and provide our range of services with this in mind as we constantly update our product. Currently we are heavily investing in programme of bedroom refurbishment.

Our leisure club is very different and significantly more comprehensive than many of the "spa" offerings of competitors. As a family friendly area it provides tennis, squash, golf, spinning, computer games, a nature walk in addition to a comprehensive range of aerobic and resistance (Cybex) equipment and a leisure pool. We have referred the issue with the Jacuzzi to our facilities team for investigation - Thank you for reporting it.

We very happy to note that during your time with us and you found the staff friendly, professional and welcoming – after all we are in the business of looking after people! With that in mind we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards

Chris Clifford

The room (an executive) was fine and the spa facilities were a bonus although the 10 year old kids throwing themselves around in the deep end were a nuisance one could do without. The jacuzzi would appear to have lost most of its power but was refreshing after a long day's drive. We had chosen dinner bed and breakfast and the dinner was served in "Christopher's Carvery". Unfortunately this looked like feeding time at the zoo with assorted guests troughing it large piling up as much as they could on the plates (and then leaving half of it). It was not sophisticated. In future I would choose just B&B and seek out a local pub for an evening meal.

Room Tip: Choose the "executive" rooms away from the main hotel. Nice and quiet.

On arriving at the hotel we were really impressed with the look of the hotel and its setting.

When we checked in the greeting was warm and friendly. We were told that we had been given a room upgrade (I don't know why) which was in the Pavilion Building, it was a lovely room with an amazing view from the balcony looking over the golf course and open country. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean with tea and coffee making facilities including a filter coffee machine. The bathroom had a large walk in shower as well as a bath tub.

Before dinner we sat in the garden and enjoyed a drink and Danish pastries in the sunshine from "Carrie's Bar" the staff were really good, although I ordered at the bar, they insisted (in a nice way) on serving at the table in the garden.

We had dinner in "Tawny's" the A la carte restaurant, The restaurant is a charming room with a good ambience, the menu selection was good, the service was warm, friendly and very professional, and the meal was excellent. After dinner we went into “Zan's” bar for a nightcap again the staff were warm, friendly and helpful. We then had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.

Breakfast was served in the carvery, the selection at the buffet was very good. The food was fresh, well cooked and nicely presented and the service was again warm and friendly.

Checkout was quick and efficient and the receptionist was happy and friendly.

This was only a one night stay and we were both surprised (We have only previously stayed in excellent Best Western Hotels in France) and very happy with what was a most enjoyable stay giving excellent value for money. We both look forward to returning to the hotel in the future.

Our thanks to all of the staff.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Pavilion have balconies the main building does not
