Very unususal rocks formation, which has been formaed over million years. For sure the oldest thing I've ever seen and touched. Very good visitors centre, they have brochures in English, but you have to ask at the reception.
Practical points: free admission, cheap parking, toilets, cafe on the site, little shop.
Fantastic place, we've been there twice and loved it. Lots of nice walks, good for children of all ages.
I would highly recommend to visit, especially in the summer, they have musical festivals there. Just a cool place to be.

A "must" if you're in the area, the Externsteine is a neat exhibit, easy to get to and a great place to walk around and let the kids burn off some energy.

These tall sandstone pillars are magnificent & have a 12,000-year-old history. The museum nearby has displays with explanations in both German & English.

100 foot unusual rock formation - Germany's very own version of British Stonehenge, with a twist. You can climb the rocks using the steps. The area around is beautiful with a small lake infront of the rock formation. Costs 1.5 euro per person to climb the rocks during the day. washrooms are available nearby. Parking facility available for cars. Nearest town is Detmold.
