We had 11 nights here at the end of September. Lovely hotel; spotlessly clean, friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of choice of food, although always the same choice at breakfast, but there were enough options not to get bored (and when someone else is cooking, who cares?) .Possibly not as wide a choice of food in the evening as other 4/5 star hotels that I have been to, but that's probably a good thing, because I always want to try everything! And what was on offer, was mainly very good, with plenty of authentic greek dishes.
Our room was spacious, and as we had asked for a high floor, we also had staircase and additional bedroom above. Free safe in the room, which actually worked (not always the case), and a fridge that was not a mini-bar, so actually useful to keep our water etc.in. Also must mention the outdoor cinema, which was great (if not really big enough when a popular film was on), And very useful bearing in mind that there is nothing else to do in the evenings if you don't have a car. We actually did, and were therefore able to go out in the evening if we wanted, to Lixouri and one evening over on the ferry as foot passengers to Argostoli, which has lots of good restaurants on the sea front.
The staff were helpful even before we got there, as we e-mailed for directions from the airport and ferry timetable, which they duly sent, advising us to contact them again nearer to our arrival date as the ferry times can change later in the year, which they did. We toured a lot of the island, which is beautiful, and seemed to have stunning views wherever you looked. Indeed I think that about the only drawback with this hotel, is that it is in the middle of nowhere, so there was nowhere to walk to in the evenings, and it did mean that without a car you would be very limited. We never actually used Xi beach which is within walking distance, as there were so many more attractive ones if you could get to them. Our favourite was Agios Nikalaos in Vatsa Bay, only a 10 minute drive away, never many people there,no sunbeds/umbrellas, but "Robinson Crusoe" type leafy shades and a lovely Taverna right on the beach (Vatsa Bay Club), with an open grill going all the time, and a pet duck! Also worth a drive is Assos, a little fishing village on a peninsula - so much prettier that the much-talked about Fiskardo, which we found to be very commercialised and full of yachting types. We will definitely go back to Kefalonia, and very possibly to The Apollonion,

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the bar area, as there is music most nights, some better than others.

This resort is excellent in every way, good buffet style food , good facilities eg pool , open air cinema , gym etc.
We had suites 503 & 504 which were again excellent with no moans or groans.
Xi Beach is a short walk and we also had a car to explore this fine island.
Staff were all very well mannered and polite with always a smile to greet you.

We just returned from a holiday spent at the Apollonion. It was fantastic! Hotel is really beautiful. The staff is amazing, especially Viorel, George and all the girls. Rooms are beautiful with a big terrace, but the beds have room for improvement. The echo on the terrace can be sometimes anoying, especially if you have loud neighbours. But fortunately there is plenty of places to go to and things to do so you won't have the time to stress about it.
Renting a car is a must. The beaches on Kefalonia are really something special. There is Mercury/Sixt by the hotel.
The walk to the beach is really short and there is a nice Tavern with delicious Gyro and Souvlaki on the way.
Spa is nice, you just have to treat yourself with a nice massage there. Be sure to reserve it a couple of days in advance.
The local wine they serve at the diner is very good. Food was nice, though in my opinion Gyro should be served every night. And youghurt for breakfast is to die for. :)

I would definately recommend this place.

From the moment we arrived on 12-9-13, the staff were very friendly and polite. Our rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean with lovely view of pool and mountains. We had rooms 123and124 on second floor. A bit noisy when organist was playing, and singing is not his strong point.
Food was good but not brilliant, but plenty of choice at dinner and breakfast. Again we found the
Restaurant staff very pleasant and our waiter reserved our table on each of our 14 evenings.
After dinner, not much to do so we went to the open cinema most nights and saw a few good films
Such as les miserables, sky fall and avatar.
We went on the discover kefalonia tour for about 42 euro each, visiting myrtos, asos and fiskardo.
Fiskardo is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been and well worth visiting. Took us also
To the derogarati and mellisani caves, these were worth seeing but had to pay extra for these.
Hired a car for around 60 euro for one day and revisited fiskardo for a longer stay.
Beautiful scenery and cliff top views all around but the roads are extremely dangerous in places so take care, the coach drivers deserve a medal.
The road from hotel down to xi beach was a very pleasant walk, the beach itself is gorgeous and the averto bar is excellent. Two sunbeds cost 5 euro for the day and music playing all day too.
Argostoli is where most shops are located but the journey by taxi and ferry costs 10 euro p/p return. We only went once by taxi and drove around the bay about 25k on second trip.
Overall we loved this resort and really enjoyed our two week stay. If relaxation is your aim then this would be an ideal hotel for you.

Room Tip: Avoid over bar but not too bad with lovely view.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Apollonion. We cannot fault the hotel at all. Rooms were spacious and very clean. The pool was a good size with plenty of sunbeds around. Always plenty to eat buffet style. Staff were very pleasant especially George and Theodore nothing was too much trouble. Down the road on the way to the beach is Carol 's taverns where you can get very reasonable snacks at lunchtime a little bit further on is the Dolphin taverna which has excellent views of the sea. Unless you just want to stay at the hotel we would recommend having a car to visit some of the island which has spectacular scenery. We arranged this through our rep. We didn't go on any of the arranged tours as we found them to be very expensive. We had our car for 2 days and saw quite a bit.
If we had one complaint it would be that there isn't much to do of an evening.
Overall we had a very enjoyable time and feel ready to face the world again.
