“nice chill down for a week..... enough ......”
Reviewed 22 May 2013

Just returned from a week with my son, daughter in law and 6 year old grandson. Booked through Thomson, A I, shortly after Christmas - bargain and a free child place !! ITS VERY EARLY SEASON !!
As well stated online and brochure - this is in a very remote location, but the transfer was quick and easy ( we missed the ferry - but had a nice wait in a bar) lovely on return with cracking views !!
The Thomson rep was new and had only been in post a week or so. We did not see anyone from Thomson on our return journey and were left to fend for ourselves on bus and ferry.
We had adjacent rooms, I had booked a single and had a double! The room smelt very damp and musty, I was convinced there was a wet towel somewhere, obviously had not been opened up before we arrived, and took a couple of days to go. Really got to the sinuses !! Comfortable enough, tiniest of bathrooms which you had to manouvre sideways into. Hairdryer was one of those stick things (useless really - you need your own) and 'Sky TV' had BBC World News / CNN only in english. Kettle and tea /coffee !! Room cleaned, fresh towels every day and fresh bedding. Only one lumpy hard pillow!! Every sound from other rooms reverberated very loudly. Free aircon, fridge.
Overall impression of the main building clean and shiny marble, main bar up quite steep steps which did not seem to have any form of disabled access (not that I needed it but there were couples struggling with pushchairs and other guests physically needing help up and down )
Nice reasonably priced gift shop, jewelry shop I did not see open.
Lovely big pool, and splash pool, sunscreens were 'pramhoods' which were all 'booked' by 8am. One of my pet hates. The pool was surrounded by cobbles, very painful under foot!! lovely green gardens but 'keep off the grass' !! Pool Bar needs a bit of a refurb...x
The retaurant was packed with tables far too close for comfort, and half of them not needed. I was not terribly impressed with the food. Buffet style, usual breakfast offerings, lunchtime and evening salad bar, hot meat / fish choice pasta / rice / chips. All the meats were served in a sauce / swimming in oil of some sort, traybaked. Not good for veggies (my daughter in law) as there was meat / fish in the mixed salads, and just one overboiled frozen veg choice. It would have been better to serve plain grilled / roast meats and offer a choice of sauces. Grandson lived on bread, chips and icecream and Oreos from the shop. And - my biggest bugbear - food was just barely warm, nothing worse than a cold fried runny egg. Needed a microwave to heat food up. Snacks (charged) of toasties were available at the pool bar, the 'all day buffet' consisted of cake.
All the staff here are brilliant - everyone friendly and helpful and hard working. The pool bar staff always smiling and laughing, Cannot fault anyone - didnt see the miserable barman others have mentioned but there was waiter in the restaurant who needed a good spray of Lynx - yeuk .. !
The animation team were new to the job, evening entertainment was pretty basic, kids disco (birdie song etc) musical chairs(??) karaoke, bingo, quizzes (poor english made these difficult) all done and dusted by 10pm.
Out of the hotel just 5 minutes to the famed orange beach with its clay cliffs, lovely walks!
The early season and remoteness meant there was nowhere to escape to for a change of scene or to eat. The beach tavernas were not open, nor was the local bus service operational. A 20E return taxi cab takes you to Lixouri, but there was not much open there either!! a further 5E return ferry fare each takes you to Agostini - a bigger town ...
Summing up, it was a bargain break in a nice hotel, my family chilled down in the sun and did nothing which was the purpose of the exercise. The remoteness and early season resulting in nowhere to escape to for a change of scene / food / entertainment meant that one week was enough - we would have climbed the walls with boredom for another week ..... x I would not like to be there in high season either ....xx A hire car is a necessity not an add on here...x
oohhh ... and dont forget the mozzie protection .. you'll need it x

Room Tip: apparently there are refurbished rooms available, Steps to all floors - no lifts .

First thing to say people were complaining it is remote and quiet ,yes it is but it clearly states this.if you are looking for a relaxing g peaceful hotel this is the one for you.do not be put off by the transfer times we were there within an hour 20minutes of which were spent enjoying the views on the ferry over from Agostoli.check in easy then straight to the pool bar with its fantastic staff,in fact I could not find a member of hotel staff you would find fault with all friendly helpful and very welcoming.hotel clean through out in fact I would go as far to say spotless.we were supposed to be staying in the uropia after seeing the problems there we jumped ship so glad we did!!! Not even the Greek air traffic control strike could spoil our hols .oh ha e thought of one bad point....food to nice came home a lot fatter than I arrived food excellent!!!

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon from the 4th-18th September. You could not fault any of the staff in the hotel apart from the Barman in the Main hotel bar, who like others found him unhelpful and rude. The outside bar staff were very nice and always greeted everyone, always smiling and laughing. Restaurant staff couldn't do enough for you and the food was very good. All the staff worked hard and made everyone feel welcome. The surrounding area of the pool is in need of repair as this is very uncomfortable under bare foot and dangerous for all ages. We booked with Thomson's and although we could not fault them Chris our rep had rather a high opinion of himself and was only interested in making day trip sales which were very expensive. Unfortunately we had a terrible storm whilst we were there and our room flooded, on calling reception the night staff came straight to our room to solve the issue. Nothing was too much trouble for the Management and his team they were all a credit to him. The hotel is quiet away from the main town and this was only accessable by a taxi and 20 euros return or 2.50 euros by a bus thats runs twice a day. This was the only downside to this area. We hired a car for 4 days and explored the island, it was beautiful. Thank you to everyone in the hotel we had a lovely time.

Room Tip: The majority of rooms have a good view but try for a pool view as this hotel is rather isolated

As with most places there are pluses and minuses, it really depends on what you consider important I guess!. The reception and staff were excellent, the main bar surroundings were good, but the barman really miserable and often rude. The pool is a lovely size, but the surroundings could do with an upgrade. The Pool bar area also needs some TLC, but the staff there were very friendly and courteous. The beach is close by and very nice, great views and very reasonable sun beds and parasol hire. The Dining room is similiar to a school canteen, overcrowded with tables (which were not required) the food was very average and repetitive, and we were only there for a week, we felt really sorry for anyone staying any longer. The entertainment team tried really hard under difficult conditions, but were very friendly, hard working and enthusiastic. All in all a nice break, but not a memorable holiday....

My husband and I with my three children aged 14,11 and 9 years had the best holiday at this hotel, clean, safe and quiet.Staff friendly and the animation staff super for the children but not over the top. The facilities are excellent, there are toilets next to the pool if you look. The pool was clean and very easy to use as not over crowded. We got loungers everyday no problem. Beach one minute walk and very safe and beautiful, again loungers easy to get and cheap.
Rooms very clean and towels changed as required, rooms cleaned daily and cleaners not intrusive. Only one problem - pillows - only one each and very hard, not good for your neck and made sleep difficult for all of us.
Food excellent greek food and plenty of choice. We did not eat chips everyday and the kids enjoyed all the new Greek recipies.
Chris the rep was fab always there if you needed help, reception staff very helpful and friendly.
The hotel was full but did not feel over crowded and there was something for everyone,
Thankyou Kefalonia Palace for a super holiday, will definately come back.
Love the reep family

Good comfy beds, excellent air con. Room nice and clean, if a bit small but then you're out all day so that doesn't matter. Friendly pool bar staff, generally a friendly atmosphere from all really, except restaurant staff could be a bit brusque. Food was okay, better than other places in kefalonia that I've stayed in but could be more veggie stuff. Playing chess outside was fun, others get involved.
My main issue was with the entertainment, the animation team were lovely, however I didn't expect it to be going on right outside my patio doors so I found this a bit intrusive, it goes onto 1045 in the evening so dont expect to be able to sit and enjoy the tranquil setting. However i did enjoy the quizzes so maybe im just wanting it all! Yes lots of kids but it was August and it's not a adult only hotel.
Overall I'd return, yes there's some issues but had an awesome holiday with my parents and we had fun.

Room Tip: If you can choose a room facing away from the pool to maybe get some peace in the evening.
