“Nice Family Hotel”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

Initially we were a bit disappointed at the 'family' room size, which just seemed to be a standard room with some bunk beds added but we made an effort to pack everything away and were fine. We also had a lovely big patio area, as we were on the ground floor so could always spill out onto that.

The hotel itself was very nice with a good restaurant and bar area, both inside and pool side.

The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, especially the pool bar ladies.

The food was very nice as far as we are concerned. There was more than enough choice for both breakfast and dinner, although whilst dinner changed every night the breakfast got a bit repetitive but there was enough to vary your options. You also got fruit juices, tea, coffee and hot chocolate for breakfast.

There was a nice, well stocked shop at the hotel and also a jewellery shop, which were both run by a lovely lady.

There was a lovely pool, playground and games area, which kept the kids amused.

The animation team also did their best to keep us active. My son and i enjoyed volleyball and water polo most days. They also had darts, bowls and table tennis.

My daughter enjoyed the kids club, especially having her face painted on the last day.

The beach was nice enough and there were a few beach bars/cafes which all seemed very nice but not many were open as we went early in their season in May.

The only negative is the location. There is only one other big hotel, then a few villas but apart from that nothing else. No shops, e.t.c. There was nowhere really to go for a walk other than round the roads and beech but nothing to see. We did visit the other hotel on several evenings, the Apollonian, which is well worth a visit.

We must also highly recommend the Mercury car hire company that was just down the road. There prices were very competitive and they were lovely. Before I had even agreed to hire a car the gentleman I spoke to was giving me the inside track on where to visit, better than any travel brochure. They were great so get your car from them.

We stayed at this hotel from 21st of May for two weeks. Following a slight delay at Manchester airport the transfer journey went smoothly which included the ferry from Argastoli to Lixouri. Another transfer bus awaited us and on arrival at the hotel (post 9.30pm) we were swiftly checked in to the hotel and shown to the restaurant where a cooked meal was served. The rooms aren't large but who goes on holiday to spend their time in the room? The rooms and the rest of the hotel were very clean. We couldn't fault the staff - very friendly, courteous and efficient. Crista and Anna in the pool bar were great - they were stars! The involvement of the animation team was just the right amount for us - definitely not in your face yet good fun and wonderful with the children - especially Richard and Aleks. I have read on another review that the all inclusive option didn't include alcohol through the day - I don't know which all inclusive option this holiday maker was on but our all inclusive option certainly did include alcohol available throughout the day if required as well as soft drinks and tea and coffee. The hotel restaurant was clean and the staff very efficient and attentive servicing drinks and clearing away used plates etc. the food options were numerous and the quality of the food very good. There was something for everyone. Greek night on a Sunday provided yet more quality food. The sun pods around the pool were new to us and good for providing shade for children throughout the hotter times of the day. However, you did need to be an early riser to be able to secure one - towels often looked as if they'd been left there from the night before by some people. The bar used in the evening wasn't the most child friendly as there were steps up to it and many a parent was seen through the evening making a dash to prevent their child from falling. We were told though that as the season goes on the family/children entertainment moves from this bar to an outside one and that there is also another restaurant (a la carte) that opens up nearer the beach (as part of the hotel). We had a day out to Argastoli to see the big turtles who come to the harbour to eat the left over catch from the fishermen each morning between 10 and 11 am. Definitely worth a visit. We had a superb lunch at the harbour facing Captain's Table restaurant and would recommend. Overall we had a great holiday at this hotel - it was just the right size for us (not too big), staff were great and the guests we befriended great too. Our children (aged 4 and 10) loved the pool, the freedom they had (as the play area, pool etc were all within sight of each other). Would definitely recommend and we would like to return!

Would find it very hard to fault this hotel. I would agree with other people that one bar maid was a not grumpy but apart from that every other member of staff was nothing but helpful and friendly. Our room was very clean and modern and very clean. The pool area was great. The animation team were really good. Not at all pushy. Alex was great with the kids. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere but this is made very clear in the brochure so if you want things in walking distance then it is not the place for you. We found that we had enough to do and our two children aged 5 and 2 had a great time. Would recommend hiring a car to explore the island and other beaches. The transfer was fine. Overall would go back, hopefully next year.

As previous review from Dave. We were Also transferred from Utopia and would have preferred the option to have gone there. Having stayed in Katelios several times before.
Kefalonian Palace is nice hotel lovely staff and food. But entertainment at night is too noisy with children running round screaming all night - an accident waiting to happen. Hotel has lots of steps which is unsuitable for us. But we are making do. The only access to the main bar area has steps and there is a pram park at the bottom of the steps blocking the access. I have witnessd 1 young dad fall down carrying his baby in a buggy. There is no other area for guests to go. We have another week to go so I can see some early nights ahead
Beautiful beach but not easily accessible with walking problems as lots of steps. There are a few ramps but very steep.

Just to put this in context we didn't book this hotel but were transferred here when Thomson ceased trading with the Utopia in Katelios, it really was a last minute option. Having said that we went with an open mind and on the whole were very pleased with our holiday. The hotel is rated 3 star plus by Thomson, don't know what all the plus business is about but 3 star is about right.
When we arrived about 22:00 hrs and booked in, the staff had kept the restaurant open and dinner was waiting for us. That was a really nice touch and above and beyond service we have received on past holidays elsewhere. That level of attention sums the hotel up best of all. The staff are exceptional.
The room was slightly smaller than we are used to, no problem, bathroom a little cramped and overall somewhat dated but clean as a whistle, fresh towels and sheets every day. Air con is free but limited in efficiency. fridge in the room and TV although the UK options limited to euro news (if you go on holiday just to watch the television bear this in mind, or stay at home). There was an issue with noise for us, which I think is in part due to the design / structure of the building, sound seems to resonate through the corridors. I thought we had arrived during the national door slamming finals with some inconsiderate guests attempting to burst doors off the hinges. There is no gym, a downer for us and no local facilities to use.
We were all inclusive but always try the local taverna's. Be aware there is very little around the hotel, this may disappoint some travelers. We did eat at the Antonellas grill house, opposite the hotel, recommend, good prices, nice food. Also Fishbones on the beach to the left of the hotel about half a mile, exceptional food a real must do.
the beach is nice although when the tide is in, or the sea is a bit rough the water comes pretty much over the beach.
We opted to visit Lixouri and Agostoli on a few occasions 10 euros each way in a taxi and if crossing on the ferry to Agostoli 2.50 each, per crossing. I am told that the local authority put buses on in high season but can't provide any details.
The hotel is great for kids lovely pool. Sun beds are limited, its towels at dawn or outta luck.
Entertainment limited but the team try hard and mix in a very genuine a friendly manner with the guests, top marks to Ivan, Richard and Aleks.
Food was consistently nice throughout our stay, although the choice limited, but real thumbs up for the quality.
Would I go again, probably not because it,s not really for me, however if I had young children I would consider doing so and I can recommend this hotel. As long as you are realistic in you're expectations you will have a good time, we did. : )

WE arrived at the hotel in the evening to a warm welcome from the receptionist she was
very efficient and friendly.
I cannot fault the hotel the food was great and the restaurant manager was very attentive
and couldn't do enough to make his guests welcome he even arranged for people who
had problems with the set menus and got the chef to prepare something else for them
now that is going the extra mile.
the rooms were spotlessly clean and the house keepers were always smileing
All the staff were fantastic with a special mention for the girls on the pool bar
so jolly and always ready for a laugh also the young lady on the bar in the evening
such a hard worker but always smileing.
I did'nt care much for the young lady they put on to help her she was a bit of a sour
puss and did'nt seem to want to be there.

It was a very relaxing holiday weather was great i have to say the hotel would'nt
be the best place for teenagers but younger children would enjoy it.
we met some lovely people and took home some good memmories.
Would like to go back sometime in the future.

Room Tip: 2nd floor not ground as you cant see anything from balcony

Stayed in june 2009, with my family. Cephalonia is far from airport (1,5hour) and also far from nearest town, it's a lonely hotel on a amazing red beach. Room we had was like in basement, terrace was below the level of the swimming pool, but it was clean, AC worked good, small bathroom.. All Inclusive here was called "family", you can't have no free alcohol during day (we didn't mind :)), limited buffet, but the food was good, varied. The beach has red sand, water is clear with no waves, you can take long and long walk and enjoy beautiful view on reefs. Sunbeds here are charged. Pool was clean, we didn't like the "tents" instead of sunbeds.. This hotel is oriented on families with children, especially animation. As I mentioned, the hotel is average, but we really liked this holiday because of the amazing beach.

Room Tip: Ask for room in 1. or 2. floor, I don't recommend the ground floor.
