Cephalonia Palace Hotel
Ranked #7 of 11 Hotels in Lixouri
Reviewed 31 August 2013

Just returned from this hotel after a 11 night stay, Kefalonia is a beautiful Island and have stayed there many times but never again in Lixouri. There is the beach, possibly just over a mile of red sand definitely not the best beach I've been on and can be narrow in places.

This hotel in Lixouri is far too remote for my liking with nothing of interest around it, the pool with 34 pods around it to be shared by the possible 400+ guests is a total joke as these beds have towels on them from around 4am in the morning and the hotel does nothing to stop this type of practice, some are left for hours empty (with towels draped over them) while other guest have to pay on the beach.

A day or so before we left more sun chairs arrived for pool use but there is no shade provided the hotel also provided more chairs for pool bar use but only due to guest complaints.
The staff are very pleasant, food was as good as you would expect from a hotel of this size and catering for many nationalities.

I can only comment on my room but I would expect the others to be similar, the beds were very comfortable the tv a waste of time as reception useless, decor very tired and needs revamping.
The entertainments team try very hard to create a good atmosphere for all to enjoy especially the children.

I did not pick this hotel, I had booked the Utopia with a fishing village around it and a harbour but Thomson stopped trading with them and so this was all we could have as Thomson left us with not much time or choice to select alternative accommodation.

Room Tip: Room 159 Garden view with sea view quiet location.

It is a very nice location and hotel for families and kids.

Rooms: ok
Food: ok, greek standard
Place: quite, there is nothing, so it is convenient for those who spent evenings in hotel
Beach: wonderful and super for kids, clean water and shallow water, long beach with empty areas without people if you want
Tips for trips: look at beaches by car they are beautiful in Kephalonia.

Just returned from a 11 night stay with extended family. We all had a great time, pool was lovely and hotel was so close to the beach. Rooms could have been better but we were only in them to sleep and shower.
Food was a great surprise very varied, we never had any issues and lots of fresh salad. it was always hot and the cooks and waiting staff work very hard.
Pool bar staff are lovely ladies as were the cleaners, it was just a friendly place with a mix of people accross europe.
If you need a sun bed and only two of you fine no need to get up early otherwise if you want shade you do. But mainly us brits playing that game.
If you can hire a car we did for 3 days and it's such a great island to explore and would be a shame if you only just saw the pool and Xi beach.
Animation team also worked very hard you just need to take it in the spirit it's meant.
Overall one of the best holidays I've had and glad I went to this hotel.

We were there from 22 July for two weeks; I must say the trip from the airport is all part of the journey, over on the ferry, which we found to be fun...

The Hotel was the same in the reviews as in real life, the only down side to the rooms were the bathrooms are a bit out dated and do need to be up graded, other than that the staff are fantastic and were happy to help with any issues you had.

I would say hire a car to see around the island, because there are some fantastic places to visit.

This holiday was one of the best I have had and that was with the help of the Staff and guest at the hotel.

Would we go back? Yes we would….

A great hotel. We took our young children for their first 'hot' holiday and were delighted with this hotel. Entertainment team were super, rooms were pristine and the service was very good. The children's playground was a pleasant surprise and the pool was great. The transfer was not an issue and the hotel is close to the sand beach. I would thoroughly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Pool views were still quiet rooms.

we originally booked the utopia hotel like may others on here. we did look at this hotel to begin with but were put off by the transfer time of "2.5hrs" which is wrong! only took us maximum 1.5hrs and that was with lots of drops at other hotels. the hotel itself was lovely. very clean. we arrived at 9:30 and the restaurant had been kept open for us to have dinner although there was no vegetarian option for my wife, and the waitress was very rude and told her that was it, however the restaurant manager bought over two apples which we thought was very nice!! our room was very nice, clean well presented and very good air-con, the bathroom was very clean & the shower was very good n worked fine for us! (we had a room upgrade as this was our honeymoon so had been given a "sea view room" which is mainly a pool view, although you can see the sea! ) the food was lovely, quite a good selection although breakfast didn't have much on the vegetarian side. lunch & dinner were very well catered & gave us quite a few different options to have. the staff in the restaurant were all very helpful and polite apart from the one we mentioned above & 2 others who looked like that they didn't know how to smile & looked like they wanted to be ANYWHERE ELSE! the reception staff were extremely helpful & polite, nothing was too much trouble for them. shop lady (owners wife) was very nice, very helpful & answered any questioned we had on the items she sold. "Mario" the owner was always around, never spoke to him, but did get a few smiles off him as a hello. bar staff in both bars were lovely the 2 in the pool bar during the day were hilarious! always willing to have a joke with you, especially with us regarding ice cubes. the lady in the main bar in the hotel, was very nice. always made my wife a non alcoholic cocktail every time we wanted. even if we had to explain what a bin was lol. the sun pods were the main issue. they need more. we found out on our first day there, by 8am all pods were gone n beds had towels on them. so on 2-3 occasions we were up by 6.30am to win one! the pool bar staff DO remove towels after 11am off sun pods if no-one has come back by then (that's how we got one on our last day!!) the pool was very clean, lovely cold water, not too much chlorine in it. the entertainment team were very good. always tried to get everyone involved in all activities, but the water polo was awesome!! we all had very strange nicknames thanks to a fellow guest (I was pale man with glasses). the evening entertainment was good, the "comedy night" & "Greek night" could of done with a bit more thought & effort put into it! but the other nights we enjoyed very much & they again tried to get everyone involved. the beach was lovely & clean, the sea was beautiful & make sure you do the clay thing as its fun to do! the 5 euros for the sunbeds on the beach is worth every penny, as you can also get food & drinks brought down to you at a cost. we did the "discover kefalonia" tour and would recommend it to anyone! get 2 see the island in a different way, without having to drive along the scary roads & cliffs! lol myrtos beach is breathtakingly beautiful, melassani lake is beautiful, fiskardo town is lovely & would recommend eating there and taking time out to nosey round as its truly remarkable. i recommend you go over to argostoli between 9-11am to see the local loggerhead turtles, they come right up close to the fishing boats who are throwing unwanted fish to them & it is such an amazing experience! overall we had a very good & enjoyable time here & want to go back again in the future & would recommend this hotel to anyone!! yes it is a bit secluded but there are places just a walk away so don't let that put you off!

I stayed here with a friend during June 2013 for 10 days.
I booked this holiday with a girlfriend but unfortunately split up before we were due to go away. We picked this hotel and location due to it being a nice quiet and remote hotel as that's what we were looking for.
Due to the circumstances I decided to take my friend (I think most other guests thought we'd got off the coach at the wrong place as we didn't look like we should've been there!)

Anyway, we both had a fantastic stay. The rooms were clean and were kept clean by our cleaning lady everyday.
The location was beautiful with a beach just a few minutes walk out of the hotel grounds.

The food was good and a wide selection every day for breakfast, lunch and tea. Granted, it wasn't the greatest food I've ever had but it was decent enough.

There is a pizza place a 10 minute walk away from the hotel which we went to twice for a change and loved it!! Plus, if you order pizza you get a free game of mini golf which was good fun!

We rented a car for a couple of days, not because of how remote the hotel was, but because it's a shame to go to such a beautiful island and not take in the sights. It really was worth it and the best decision we made whilst there.

The air con worked well in the room, the pool was clean and a good size. All the staff were helpful and cheery. The animation team tried really hard to get people involved and we enjoyed playing Waterpolo and volleyball with them on several occasions and loved it. They really were fantastic.
The best thing we found about the holiday was just how friendly all the other guests were! We made some good friends whilst there and were still in touch with them a few months later.

I really could go on forever about all the things to do but ill let you discover them for yourselves. Make use of your time on the island. Don't go here if you want something lively. Make the holiday great yourself.

*Tip - get two roomcards from reception and leave one in your room all the time so you can have your aircon on all day so when you get back it's lovely n cold. Great after a day in the sun...
