“Charming small hotel.”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

Stayed here for three weeks last summer. Everything you need is at hand, the hotel is kept spotless , the rooms are small but comfortable and mine overlooked land at the bag where sheep grazed. Janet and Jerry can't do enough for you, those ladies work so hard! My first night there I went for a drink in a bar and asked the owner's wife about a street name, she was really helpful and pleasant and it turned out she was Janet's daughter!

There's a well-stocked bookshelf where guests leave paperbacks, the pool is great to cool off in on hot afternoons (it nudged 35 degrees a couple of times, phew!)

The gardens really are beautifully kept, mature trees and palms surround the hotel and there is a quieter lawned area away from the pool, a good place to read a book.

Greek people are lovely, Janet and Jerry are especially lovely Greek people, can definitely recommend La Cite.

I would post photos but I jumped into the pool with my phone in my pocket.

We stayed here for a week and having read previous reviews was expecting the Ritz. We didn't get the Ritz, but it was probably one of the best hotels we've stayed in in Greece, although we generally go self catering so haven't been to many. The people who ran the place were very friendly, but were not pushy with us, which was nice.
I purposely booked a room which was for three people, hoping to get more room than a two person one. We in fact were shown to a two person room. When I queried it I was told they were full and there wasn't one, even though my booking form said I should have had one. In the end I was pleased because the rooms for three had tiny balconies and ours was quite large by comparison. I had a look at one of the other rooms and the extra space was taken up by a bed, so I feel I got the better end of the deal.
Breakfast was the usual Greek effort to please the English, but you could buy a cooked version for five or six Euros, which we didn't bother with. For some reason the ham and cheese were served every other day and on the off days was not replaced with anything else, odd that. There were three cereals, yoghurt, tinned fruit and honey, bread with a toaster and jam. Of course there was the obligatory cold hard boiled eggs. Generally OK if you like eggs.
The room was comfortable, not particularly large, but adequate. The bathroom looked quite new and had a shower cabinet, although it was a bit small. The television was a waste of time, a couple of French channels and the rest were Greek, no CNN or any English news channel.
One nice gesture, they had a dish of sweets on the reception counter and I just mentioned that I like the jelly ones. Every day when I went in they had saved me some jelly ones. Very nice of them.
Would I go back, maybe. I wasn't that impressed with Lixouri, but if they could move the hotel to another resort, definitely.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 17, bigger balcony.

As other reviews say Janet and Gerrie the two receptionists are great, they remember everyone's names and make all feel really welcome and are happy to assist with anything from room maintenance to car hire. Rooms are cleaned daily, sheets changed every third day. Lift is small 2 people and 2 cases max occupancy but reliable. Lynne m's description of direction to get to hotel is spot on, drinks quite expensive in the bar. Aircon available for additional daily charge we did not need it in September, a couple of warm night but bearable, I think it would be necessary in high season. Generally a nice, well run hotel.

Room Tip: When booking a room ask for one with a large balcony, the small balconies have room for a table and...

We did not pay for transfers - it is cheaper to get taxi from airport to Argostoli ferry (20 euro) then ferry to Lixouri (2.5 euro ). A 5 minute walk up right hand side of the square, going past supermarket brings you to sign for hotel, left is back entrance and quicker.
The hotel - small, intimate, relaxing, peaceful, friendly staff, clean, basic breakfast, nice pool and gardens.Air con is 5 euro per day, the fridge is 3 euro per day (we needed neither). There is a kettle but no tea coffee etc so good idea to take with you.If you enjoy sitting on a balcony then ask for a large one as the small ones are no use for 2 people. If you like morning sun ,you need a room overlooking gardens-if evening sun, then overlooking mountains.
There is a super beach - Lepeda -30 mins walk away.2 sunbeds and a parasol for 5 euro .A small cafe with tables on beach-nice meatballs, whitebait and greek salad (and a loo ,most important )
Only minutes from hotel to many bars and restaurants. We loved Novita-their pork venetia is lovely.Maxim do great Greek chicken. We also found a cheap place off the square where you can get souvlaki (chicken skewer) for 1.5 euro for one, add chips salad etc small bot wine 3.00 euro. Apart from there, everything same cost as U.K..
We loved our week here ,felt relaxed immediately. However if you want entertainment, dancing, games etc this is not for you.
The hotel is def good value and is so quick and easy to get to from the airport- we will def return when we need some R &R in a peaceful location. ( P.S-we are a couple in our 50's)

I can only agree with previous reviews. This is a very clean and friendly hotel. The staff are very helpful and happy people. It is situated a 2 minute walk from the harbour and square which has plenty of tavernas and bars to enjoy. I personally think a little background music would help create a nicer atmosphere when spending time poolside. ( The pool filter system is quite noisy). Also perhaps a weekly Greek night./bbq would be a good thing. But i was there in late season and everywhere was pretty quite. Overall it was a very nice holiday and i would return. The island is very pretty and its worth hiring a car, scooter or quad bike to branch out.

Just returned from a week at this hotel and can certainly agree with other reviews. This is a small friendly hotel where the staff get to know really quickly. The rooms are cleaned every day, the pool and garden areas are well maintained with plenty of sunbeds and tables and chairs. Breakfast is provided and my only gripe is that there was no fresh fruit available. They do have a small lift available if required.

The hotel is well situated for tavernas and shops. The ferry across to Arostoli is close by and costs 2.50 euros each way and takes about 20 minutes.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden.

From the minute we stepped into the hotel Janet and Gerry were brilliant. Breakfast is continental but everything is fresh and local. Rooms are clean and spacious - all of the staff are friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Gardens kept immaculate - plenty of sun beds at all times. Lixouri is great with loads of restaurants at good prices. The island is worth a tour - amazing beaches - got the ferry to Agostoli which was lovely - will definitely be back.
