“Great hotel for a very good price.”

We spend a very nice weekend in this hotel. If I want to say one thing for improvement, they should allow some more time in between courses during dinner. The various dishes are well prepared and plates are more than full, so you need some time to digest... Apart from this, friendly staff and very involved owner who personally supervises to make sure all is to your utmost satisfaction.

A fantastic family run hotel in a good location in Santa Caterina, a family friendly resort. The hotel has luxury furnishings throughout and the rooms are of the same high standard. The evening meals are wonderful, most evening 5/6 courses you certainly will not go hungry. Children are welcome but I suggest we'll behaved children only as its not a hotel where you can let children run around it is too nice for that. The home made cakes in the afternoons along with drinks in the bar are also wonderful after a day on the slopes. I would highly recommend this hotel if you want something a little more luxurious in a Ski Resort. We are looking forward to our 3rd visit back in Feb 2013. The Lawrence family from Marbella

A group of seven adults and two children stayed for a week over Christmas at the wonderful Hotel Vedig. The 20 bedroom hotel, run by the Pendranzini Family; Nadia, Ermes and their son and daughter Alberto and Laura is situated in the charming, small resort of Santa Caterina Valfurva in the Stelvio National Park in Northern Italy.
Hotel Vedig was completely refurbished in 2008 and the care, attention and the pride they take in it is evident everywhere. It is as if it were only just completed, so pristine and clean is the place. We could not fault it. We are not ones to do "the white glove test" usually for fear of what we would find, but here the cleanliness is outstanding.
From the booking process that we undertook via email with Laura it appeared that nothing was too much trouble and we were not disappointed. We received a warm and friendly welcome from the minute we stepped in the door. All the staff were cheerful and charming and seemed to want to go out of their way to ensure we felt welcome and had everything we could want. Many of the staff speak English, Nadia and Laura and Alberto are fluent. We had two lovely waiters Emilio and Paulo who were responsible for looking after our table at breakfast and dinner and the attention we were given was superb.
We had booked a half-board package and didn't imagine that it would be so extensive. Every morning there was an abundant breakfast buffet with everything from cereal to crepes, omelettes, Italian cakes and pastries, meat, cheese and fruit. The evening meals were generally four courses commencing with a antipasti buffet (that would have been enough, it was so delicious), a choice from two dishes for entree and main course and mouth watering dessert. All of it absolutely delicious. We could not quite believe that all this was included in our package price.
On Christmas Eve we arrived in the dining room to find it decorated with festive colours, sparkling stars and all candle-lit! The pride on the faces of the staff as we arrived was obvious and we were rather overwhelmed. We were presented with a seven course fish and seafood menu which is traditional Italian Christmas fare. For three of our party who could not eat fish, the chef created a completely different menu for them which was also amazing! The children were looked after too with pasta and icecream or any little tit-bits that they requested.
At the end of this amazing meal, Father Christmas appeared from the dark and greeted each and every one of us, distributing special gifts for the children and beautiful boxes with chocolates inside for all the adults.
On Christmas Day our evening meal was a six course menu - again all delicious. Words cannot describe the quality and extensiveness of the food complimented by exemplary service.
Nadia was always present at breakfast and dinner to greet her guests and ensure we were all contented. Alberto also dropped by regularly for a quick chat at dinner so we always felt we were guests in every sense of the word. They obviously love what they do.
All the rooms are spacious with a balcony and lovely bathroom and the quality of the fittings was excellent. We rarely heard a noise from other guests due to solid doors and the clever configuration of the rooms. The family rooms are large with bunk beds or sofa beds. It goes without saying that they were all pristine! Each night after we went down to dinner our rooms were tidied, beds turned down with a chocolate on the pillow and even the bins emptied.
There is a very relaxing, comfortable bar and lounge area with an open fire and views of the mountains. Having stayed in many hotels, some supposedly five-star, this hotel was truly five star! It is delightful!
There is a small wellness centre in the basement which our companions reported was lovely, with a sauna, Turkish bath, showers and relaxation area. There is not a pool or jacuzzi but the hotel across the road welcomes guests to it's centre with pool and jacuzzi for €10 for adults and €5 for children for unlimited time. We were told by others in our group that this was very quiet particularly during the day and a very nice facility. There is a good sized boot-room for skis, snowboards or mountain bike gear. Dogs and cats are welcome too!
The resort was very quiet when we were there although did get a little more busy towards the New Year. It is ideal for both beginners and advanced skiers with good nursery slopes, blue, red and black runs as well as some off -piste. Our companions have been to French resorts many times and and remarked on how nice it was not to be in a noisy overcrowded resort that was much more reasonably priced than they were used to.
Ermes runs the ski school and Alberto is one of the instructors so all your instruction can be taken care of. There are eighty instructors but most don't speak English so make sure you request one that does! There is also a good ski equipment hire shop near the ski school office which is all located very near the chair lift. There is a free ski bus that runs around the resort regularly. Our ski passes were included with our hotel package at a special rate of €100 each for the week. We were also given a Welcome Card which gave discount to various restaurants (not that we needed them!) and the chairlift, cable car for those without passes.
For a small, family run hotel this has got to be the best. We could not find fault and truly felt we were guests in their home. Nadia even presented the children with gifts on the last day - for no reason. We have never stayed in a hotel where we've kissed the hoteliers and waiters goodbye! We will most definitely be back!

We didn't know anything about this hotel (or where it was really located) before booking through Expedia. It showed up on our radar with a good price and good TripAdvisor reviews. We weren't disappointed!

We absolutely loved our stay here... we even extended it by a day. This isn't any ordinary hotel... it's run by a wonderful family that truly seem to enjoy their jobs and it shows in the way they treat their guests. A quick example : upon learning of my wife's gluten intolerance, they made special trips to the store to make sure she had all that she needed for supper and breakfast. Talk about service!

The hotel itself is very modern and is very well appointed. Rooms are great with balconies facing the beautiful mountains (kinda hard not to, since they're surrounded by them). The location is also great, situated in a little village between the Gavia and Stelvio mountain passes and close to the city of Bormio and the thermal baths (which we enjoyed following Alberto's suggestion).

All in all a great place to spend a few days. Would definitely stay here again!

This family run hotel deserves to be packed with visitors. Mother and Father do not speak a lot of English, but get by, while son and daughter both speak perfect English. Rooms are beautifully appointed. Ours had a balcony, and while facing the road, we did not hear a sound from outside.
The evening, a la carte, meal was prepared and served beautifully, and tasted sublime. When we expressed an interest in the local wine that we had drunk, a visit was arranged for the next day to the vineyard. Nothing was too much trouble, and having just conquered the Stelvio pass in a 60 year old car, we were not exactly comprehensible when we arrived.
We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have good views of the mountains.
