“Great Hosts & Warm Welcome - Time after Time.......”
Reviewed 27 February 2009

We stumbled upon this hotel 8 years ago and have been back to visit every year since.

The owner - Giovanni- and his family go out of their way to make you feel very welcome from the moment you check-in until it's time to go. The rooms are spotlessly clean & comfortable, the food tasty & satisfying, and the atmosphere in the bar - convivial.

The village is small and pretty with two main lifts giving access to the skiing area (the closest lift a 3-4 minute walk from the hotel). Though not huge, the skiing area is always well covered in snow (due to the high alititude) and free from crowds even in school holidays. If you want more skiing take a 20 minute free bus ride to Bormio and ski to your hearts content though most visitors find plenty to satisfy them on the slopes of Santa Caterina.

The village is not currently served by a UK Tour operator meaning its refreshingly short of 'Brits Abroad'. But fear not - if you want to visit this fantastic place ring or email Giovanni and he will arrange airport transfers (Milan), ski passes, ski school etc all before your arrival. He is used to doing this for his large number of loyal frequently returning visitors.

The hotel can be found at [-] and all necessary contact details are found there.

The hotel is a perfect relaxed family run business where you feel part of that family.
it was our third visit and it gets better each time. We had a family room with our two daughters aged 10 & 13 and had plenty of space and storage.
The hotel is central to everythign and everyone knows the owner Gio. nothing is too much for him and his team, from birthday cakes to negotiating in the local shops.
The food is plentiful and tasty. Enjoy it if you can.

Like other reviewers I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Giovanni and the entire Compagnoni family make your stay a memorable one. I've stayed here with my husband and 2 children (now 12 years old) nine times over the past decade. Like other people we know, we just keep coming back as it's very comfortable, the food is great, and the welcome is always warm. Christmas and New Year are particularly fabulous times to visit as the family really pull out all the stops with amazing six-course meals! The hotel is a few minutes' walk from the village ski slopes and the ski bus down to Bormio stops just outside. What more can you want? Santa Caterina is great for skiers of all abilities -- ski school instructors are great with English speakers. Regular attractions include torchlight skiing down to the village and nocturnal skiing on the world championship Deborah Compagnoni piste. Plus you have access to the slopes of Bormio and Livigno should you want even more variety than is available in Santa Caterina. For value for money, this resort and hotel are hard to beat.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The resort is simply a slice of heaven - as it is high, the snow is guaranteed and this year the snow is even better than ever. The hotel is run by Giovanni and his family, and they will make your stay a memorable one. Fantastic food, wonderful company and really, really good skiing. I have come home feeling revitalised, healthy and can't wait to go back again. Contact the hotel directly and Gio can arrange everything for you (he can even sort out a rest from skiing in the nearby natural baths of Bormio). I will warn you though - you may not want to go anywhere else once you've experienced this resort!

  • Liked — The snow, the traditional feel and the people
  • Disliked — That I like it so much it makes me sad to leave!

Hotel was built apx 1894, has been modernized around 1990. It is a family run Hotel. The rooms are large, clean and good size shower room / WC. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We had the half board option. So the breakfast was a buffet style with decent choice. Dinner was a 4 course’s with health portions to satisfy any appetite !
The Hotel is situated apx 100 – 150 meters from the nursery / red run slope & cable chair lift in the village.
If you are a beginner, then this resort may be a little difficult for you. Intermediates and above will love this resort.

Really lovely hotel. Rooms were really cosy and comfortable, staff were fantastic - anything we asked for materialised! Giovanni, our host, seemed to be the master of finding anything.
Food was wonderful and there was always lots of it - I came to lose weight by skiing, but I don't think that worked...

Resort is small and friendly, but not too great for beginners - just a small nursery slope and then a hard blue.
Experienced skiers may want to go somewhere bigger.

Really recommend this place - really loved the holiday and was sorry to go.
