This was a real find - especially as we were arriving from London the day before ferragosta in August and were not very organised. An Italian- speaking neighbour found this after many trials (we said we would stay with her otherwise - that was motivating!) The downside was a minimum stay of three nights when we had already booked somewhere else, but it's not so expensive so we accepted that) The hotel is brilliantly sign-posted, just as well as it is in the maze of tiny streets in central Galatina. The public spaces are charming and our room - a very long way up many stairs - was fine and overlooked the internal courtyard so very quiet. But it was quite hot even with the somewhat dicey air conditioning on theoretically at top speed. A lower room might be better.

Breakfast was good and featured a range of fresh fruit and local speciality pastries - and really good coffee which is quite rare in Italian hotel breakfasts we find.

The staff were wholly delightful: helpful, smiling and well-informed.

Parking is extra but worth it. And we loved the town with its winding streets and baroque churches. More charming than Lecce and with better ice-cream - from the gelateria in the main square by the church. Fab!

Dear Guests,
thank you very much for your review.
We are very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay in Galatina, that is one of the most important and beautiful town in Salento.
In Galatina you live in charme and quiet, the same strenghts of our Hotel together with tradition and history (Palazzo Baldi was built in 15th century to accomodate the Bishop Adarzo de Santander from Otranto and we have the sign of his stay inside the palace).

Your accomodation was at the second floor (the highest). We only have three rooms at this floor; all the other are at the first floor. The rooms on the second floor are more sunny and sometimes, when it is 40° Celsius on the street like during your stay, more hot than other rooms. But, after your reporting, we power up the air conditioning in these rooms to better meet Guest's need.

Thank you very much also for the wonderful words you spent for our Staff and our breakfast; we really appreciate your compliments and we hope to have you in our Hotel for your next stay in Apulia.

This hotel is right in the historic centre of charming Galatina, 5 minutes walk to everyhing from shops to beautifull churches. Location alone would make the stay worthwhile! The hotel itself is an adaptation of 2 old "palazzo" homes and the inside atmosphere is one of a private old world mansion now open to the outside public. There are plenty of stairs to access the rooms( beware if you hate stairs!) and all rooms are different, some with more charm and confort than others, all in a distinctive old style with few frills and luxuries but confortable enough. Given the opportunity (as I did) ask to see a couple of rooms before you settle down to one you fancy. My room was large and had a small terrace with 2 chairs overlooking a tiny orange tree garden, a perfect setting! It had a big bathroom with a bathtub were I had to fight my space with a palm tree in order to take a shower. Very funny experience indeed. Breakfast is simple but of decent quality and is served in what appears to have been an old kitchen with a small garden in the rear of the house. The painting collection
on all the walls of this hotel is very interesting ,and if you fancy art, take a few minutes to look at them. Wifi is free but only accessibe on the downstairs lounges due to the thickness of thebold walls of the house. Service is attentive and appears to be in the hands of family members so in fact you have the feeling if being just a house guest and not a hotel guest. If you want to have a taste of the old style of living in the charming south of Italy this is indeed a good experience.

This was obviously once a really good hotel but, ironically for somewhere marketing itself as a romantic destination, you can feel the love has gone.
It's not terrible, it's just not very good.
Pros - look of the building, lovely stone vaulted rooom. Location is ideal too.
Cons - Rock hard bed (and I like a hard bed but this hurt to lie on your side!) on a really cheap bargain bedstead.
11 Euro a night to park (more than the airport charged).
Hot water only intermittently.

This is not romantic the Hollywood way, this is romantic the Italian way: it is set in an ancient town house in the centre of this old town, you will sleep in unique rooms where real guests have slept before. On top, there is a beautiful back garden, you could sit in it for hours and forget that you have to go to the beach or visit Puglia

The staff will make you comfortable, they will provide all the support they can and also give you advise at to what's the best side to go to the beach (Adriatico or Ionio, it depends on the wind)

Breakfast is very rich and we had also lunch there and were enthusiast with the chef, who cooked traditional dishes for us

The structure is of course helped by the fact that it sits in the middle of the heel of Italy, so everything is very close - by car of course

This is a lovely hotel, close to the center of town. The restaurant food is fantastic with good portions and great choice wine. The only down side is the hair drier in the room which is located in the bath room is not strong enough to style so straighteners and your own hair drier is recommended.

Stayed in Italy over the New Year. Been to this hotel before and it is still as good as before. Food in the restaraunt is very good. The wine from the region is fabulous and the service from the staff great.
The room are all individual and have been developed very sympathetically. Galatina has many places to eat and much to see as well as being close enough to Lecce - if you want to go there, Gallipoli and many other places.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel and Galatina.

Along with my wife and some friends we stayed at the Hotel Palazzo Baldi in the old town of Galatina over New Year arriving on the 30th of December 2009.

From when we arrived the customer service from all of the staff was excellent. The hotel is owned by two business partners and a number of their family members are involved with staffing the property. Without exception they were all charming and could not do enough to make our stay an enjoyable one. On New Years Eve they recommended a restaurant around the corner, where we ate very well and ushered in the New Year with an Italian crowd who knew how to party!

We had breakfast every day and dinner once at the hotel during the time we were there. Breakfasts were typically continental - cereal, lots of fresh fruit, fresh bread rolls, pastries and cakes and of course superb coffee. The hotel restaurant was not open every night, but when we ate there it was excellent. It was a good menu with dishes that were typical of the area. Although we do not speak to much Italian we had fun with one of the partners daughters who was on waitress duties that evening who although she did not speak any English, served up a great meal, with a good choice of wines from the Puglia region.

The hotel dates back in parts to the16th century and the accommodation we stayed in was fine. The suite had high vaulted ceilings that added a touch of real period style. From a stone staircase in our sitting area you could access the roof terrace, which would be a real benefit in the sunnier months.

A really pleasant hotel, staffed by nice people in a friendly Italian town that turned out to be a good venue to celebrate bringing in the new year,
