We visited Locanda Sul Porto yesterday on my birthday after reading the good tripadvisor reviews, and it was honestly one of the worst culinary experiences I have ever had.
We started with the mixed raw seafood platter which was just fine, the prawns and oysters were lovely, the clams and mussels average - they didn’t taste particularly fresh at all, and the squid was poor.

We then shared a special of lobster pasta (paccheri I think) with a lobster bisque sauce. This was appalling. The lobster was extremely over cooked and hence was extremely tough and chewy, for a seafood restaurant I was astounded they could get this wrong! The paccheri was, on the flip side, incredibly undercooked. Slicing the pasta showed a layer of uncooked whiteness, this was not al dente, just extremely undercooked. We complained about this dish and was met by very little interest from our waitress. I hadn’t eaten any of the pasta at all and hadn’t bothered to even attempt to pull the meat out of the lobster after trying the first mouthful and one leg, and had just put it in the shell bowl. My partner had choked down a few pieces of pasta before also giving up.

The seafood soup was our secondi and what we hoped would be the saving grace, but this felt like an average meal that would be served at a central London tourist trap - nowhere near the sea! The broth was flavourless, the mussels and clams were clearly a few days old deemed too old to be served on the seafood platter. We also had 4-5 closed/cracked clams. This again was left almost untouched.

We explained the disappointment in this dish to the waitress, who couldn’t have seemed less interested and asked for proof of the closed clams. We were probably far too polite about the situation as it was the worst meal we’ve had in Puglia so far, but we’re not ones to complain so I didn’t want to make a fuss.

We asked for the bill and noticed we’d been charged full price. We’d complained about the pasta at the time (nobody had checked on our meal so the first opportunity to do this was when they collected our full plates), and we’d explained how poor the soup had been. We’d paid €85 Euro for half a seafood platter and a nice enough €15 bottle of wine.

The waitress was extremely pleasant at first but switched her attitude completely after we complained. She feigned vague interest until she ensured that we’d paid the full price, after which we were totally ignored. This is clearly a tourist trap restaurant in that they have no intention for customers to leave happy as they assume they won’t receive return business from them anyway. Definitely don’t be fooled by the nice surroundings and avoid at all costs!

All the outside tables were fully booked when we turned up at 8pm on a Sunday evening. But we were given a very pleasant inside table near the door with an outside view and a lovely breeze. Largely patronised by Italians this restaurant serves pleasing seafood and fish dishes. Good but not excellent.

This was our favourite restaurant during our stay. We had salt-baked bream which was fantastic. Good service and location.

We had a very nice lunch and then dinner and again lunch. After we discover the food it was hard to chose a different restaurant for the rest of our trip. The manager who is also the owner, is friendly and very helpful in choosing the dishes.
