“ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS VILLA - A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY”
Reviewed 10 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

I travelled from London to Bari with fifteen of my closest friends (age range 27-45yrs) and my 16mth old God-daughter to celebrate some of us turning 30. We have just enjoyed the BEST HOLIDAY OF OUR LIVES!

The first impression of the villa was excitement and UTTER DELIGHT. The HelloApuglia website photos were completely accurate, but being within the environment, both interior and exteriors were far better than the images could ever describe. The artistic styling and classy, yet relaxed design of the room finish, furniture and decoration was sublime. The villa, grounds and pool were beautiful to observe and SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. The bed linen and towels were new and of a high quality. The beds were made.

We were met at the villa and welcomed by Pablo of HelloApuglia, who speedily unlocked and showed us all the bedrooms. He then walked us over to the Wi-Fi router to give us the password. Next on his agenda was to take the electricity meter readings and our exit-clean cash of €300.00. He gave us a couple of %-off restaurant vouchers and showed us where the ‘nice’ beaches were on a map. We asked where the supermarket was and he scribbled that on the map also. He then gave us his card and wished us a pleasant holiday with a huge smile. He gave no house-rules, no insistence we read the house-manual (there wasn’t one). He didn’t dictate how to use/not use the villa, its equipment and belongings. This gave us a real sense that this was OURS TO ENJOY – this holiday was to be played-out the way we wanted it to be. He left within 10 minutes of our arrival.

UPSIDES:
- The tranquillity, stylish design and comfort of the whole property, pool and garden.
- The huge, beautiful kitchen and indoor/outdoor dining areas – perfect for socialising.
- The spacious and large airy size of the rest of the rooms and grounds, more than enough for 16 adults to get lost.
- The feeling of seclusion and great privacy. The property is surrounded by a wall and gates, and separated from any other properties and the quiet road by a wide strip of grassland that had a couple of horses grazing amongst the olive trees. We were able to turn our music up very high without the neighbours knowing!
- The strong wifi worked constantly and consistently. We had a Sonos system with us; the 24/7 streamed music was uninterrupted. Two of our party had to work online from the holiday, and the rest of us were regularly on our smart-phones… No worries here. Excellent.
- The high quality and quantity of glassware, cutlery and crockery and efficient dishwasher.
- The villa was well kitted-out for children and babies (but you could not tell – the villa still looked glamorous and adult friendly with ornaments and vintage furniture). There were plenty of pool toys, indoor and outdoor toys, kiddies plates/cutlery, 2x highchairs, nice travel cot, loads of space to run around and play, and Peppa Pig on the TV channel as we switched it on!
- Previous guests had left behind loo roll, bin bags, washing-up liquid, a tea towel and a cloth, Mosquito coils and ice cube bags. All needed, and all then needed promptly restocking, but this was very very helpful. (If a few more tea towels and dish cloths had been provided, that would have been really, really great.)
- Plenty of parking.
- Close by mini-mart/deli, café, off-license, tobacconist, pizza restaurant, garden centre (3-mins drive/20mins walk).
- Scenic walks.
- The frogs!!!

DOWNSIDES*
(*I’m being extremely critical, but by no means did this ruin our holiday even in the slightest! This is just a list of possible, but not necessary, improvements for the owners to consider before we tell all our other friends to book, and before we return again next year):
- Showers. The boiler/plumbing serving the kitchen sink, main bathroom and trulli bathroom was entirely useless and so we had cold showers. The hot-water pressure was poor and the taps took over 10 minutes to run hot, and if someone else was using the kitchen sink you would have to forget it! Instead, we all shared the 3 x en-suite showers that were hot but were still low in water pressure. We were unable to do any washing up using hot water.
- Coffee!!!! The brochure speaks about a “coffee machine”. We all LOVE coffee. We were extremely excited and looking forward to enjoy our delicious morning coffees using this advertised “coffee machine”. They advert should have in fact read – “there’s a Nespresso machine with no pods”, “there’s a drip-filter jug that uses filters you cannot buy for love nor money”, and there’s a tiny Bialetti pot for one person”….. So….. New guests should be advised to bring Nespresso pods and/or large cone-filters with them from home, or Villa Barbara should provide better equipment for multi-serving its guests their favourite caffeinated beverage?
- Not enough refrigerator and freezer space for 16 thirsty adults, AND all the food – we suggest another LARGE fridge for beer and wine, and an additional freezer, hidden away in the utility/pool room?
- Garbage – we were not told what to do with the garbage…. I had to email HelloApuglia to ask what to do. Pablo should have told/shown us where it needed to go.
- Security – Although we did feel completely relaxed, safe and secluded, Pablo did not show us how to lock-up the villa and gates properly. This would have been useful if we had all wanted to leave the property (we didn’t, but if we did...)
- The gas BBQ has cast-iron plates rather than flames. We weren’t really sure how to keep it clean… We would have preferred a BBQ grill, with real flames.
- We needed more cleaning equipment products – for example we couldn’t find a vacuum cleaner or a heavier-duty broom for the outdoor patios.
- There was only one set of bathroom towels per person (a huge lovely clean white bath towel, a hand towel, and a smaller towel) - Provision of a poolside/beach towel each, in addition to our bathroom towels, would have been 5-star perfect.
- We couldn’t work out how to put the pool lights on.
- A fire pit would have been nice as the evenings did get cooler (-;

We were guests the first week of June 2015. We had glorious, scorching-hot (27◦C ), sunny blue-skies-weather all week. We prepared and ate delicious home-cooked meals together, and danced and drank until at least 2am every night. The villa had a huge part to play in the enjoyment of our holiday, but it’s the people you spend it with that make it unforgettable <3

Thank you Villa Barbara – We will see you again.

“Rustic and charming villa for all ages”
Reviewed 24 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Lots of fun for little ones
Relaxing for the bigger ones
Perfect for large dinners and socializing
Minus for partially low standard in bathrooms, hard beds and bad pillows, but it does not matter in the whole!

“fantastic and fun villa”
Reviewed 29 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The villa is very roomy and tastefully decorated. The garden and pool are really great.
The only flaw was that 3 (out of 6) rooms have to share a bathroom.

“A great pieceful and beautiful place to stay”
Reviewed 9 April 2013 for a stay in September 2012

All the rooms have separate bathrooms and there are lots of space outside, where you can relax, eat, have party, play, work out.
The kitchen is big and there are arts on the wall and beautiful furniture.
We loved to go to Polignano a Mare or Monopoli to feel the atmospfere of a city and there is a huge supermarket a few km away.
Nearby is also grill on fridays and lots of restaurants in the area
