Attraction details
Owner description: “Apulia – La Finestra sul mare” was founded in Monopoli in August 2013, with the aim of offering the visitor a range of services to enjoy the gorgeous beauties of a land rich in History, Art, Culture, Traditions and Taste. A land that you can explore thanks to expert guides of the area, capable of revealing stories and emotions hidden behind a dry stone wall, an environment excavated in the rock, a painted wall, a picture, a tower or olive tree shaped by time. Evidences of a past rich in history and tradition, deeply rooted in the land of Puglia that has always been a “bridge” between East and West. We like to explore it from our “finestra sul mare” (window on the sea), offering our guests the opportunity to get an authentic experience! “Apulia – La Finestra sul mare” takes care of services for tourism with a lot of partners as the Aps Koine, but it takes care also of handicraft and Apulian typical products. In our shop, in the heart of Monopoli historical centre, you can find original handicraft creations and tasty typical products of our culinary tradition like extra virgin oil that comes from our centenary olive trees, wines of first selection, handmade pasta and more. All products are carefully selected by “Apulia – La Finestra sul mare”, a young company employing a young team desirous to increase our net of relationships to offer always the best to the visitors.

We had a wonderful trip with Antonella this afternoon. After reading online about this trip it was one of the first things we decided we just had to do on our trip to puglia.
And even with our high expectations the trip did not disappoint! We booked the Monopoli countryside tour and visited some very special places around Monopoli. These are places you do not read about in your Lonely Planet. The guide Antonella brings you to Masseria where she will pick up the key of the owner to show some real archeological wonders. We visited an old underground olive press on the land of a very friendly family. The owner had restored everything himself by hand to the original state, a project that must have taken him years but he did so with a definite passion and an eye for detail. I will not tell you about everything else we visited because it is nice to be surprised, but you will definitely not regret this trip.

About the level of difficulty: as we are Dutch of course we are used to biking, but the tour is fine for everyone who is able to just ride a bike for a bit. Comfortable pants to wear are important though if you are not used to biking :) you want to be able to still sit during the rest of your trip hahaha. We would definitely book this trip again!

We were 5 people and did the bike tour from the hill to the sea. Antonella was our guide and was super friendly, trying to answer all our questions and adjusting the pace of the tour when needed (we had to go up the hill in the beginning and some of us were struggling a bit, but do not be scared, as we all made it up fine and once we were at the top the rest of the tour was relaxing). We visited the roman church San Michele at the top of the hill, a grotto church and an impressive olive oil farm/Masseria of 16th century and it was very interesting. Afterwards we were able to taste some of the local products as well. We all had a great time and can definitely recommend the tour and our guide Antonella!

We had a very informative and interesting 4 hours with Antonella showing us "her" Monopoli. We stopped in at a beautiful local beach, then a couple of masserias, one with an underground chapel, another with an enormous olive mill, then another underground chapel before the ride home. By then it was starting to get quite warm but the whole cycle home was downhill and beautifully planned so we came in seeing the beach, the ramparts and some very quiet streets in the Centro Storico. They have been doing these tours for 5 years now so they really know their stuff and what the tourists are after. You can't get to these places without Apulia - La Finestra Sul Mare.

We decided to spend few days in Monopoli based on few interesting reviews we read over that last two years. But we didn't expect one of the top highlights to be a bike ride so we took one without really knowing what to expect.
I am delighted we did..!
The guide,Antonela, has a contagious passion for her region and took us through just fantastic old olive trees with surreal shapes and colors ,like coming for a Harry Potter movie.
We also visited historical underground churches and caves which have witnessed human evolution for centuries .A treasure that deserved to be restored and protected.
The whole region is beautiful and the kindness and courtesy of people like Antonela make it truly special. And,of course this is without mentioning the outstanding local food.
A bunch of great restaurants .Our favourite:Komera. Sublime fish and pasta combinations.
Planning go back next year :)

My husband and I really wanted to get up close to some of Puglia's ancient olive trees and we certainly chose the right team to help us do that. We spent a wonderful morning with Antonella in beautiful countryside just outside Monopoli. She told us all about the trees themselves, the harvesting of the olives and the production of the oil. Antonella was knowledgeable about the subject, passionate about her region and just a lovely person to spend a few hours with. We had a great experience and definitely recommended La Finestra sul Mare!
