I imagine Camilleri's Montalbano life running (during the calm days) pretty much like this.
A splash in the water and a few good strokes early in the morning, just before climbing back up, in a few steps, to the privileged view of your terrace, and starting the ode to Sicilian gastronomy with a quiet and thoughtful breakfast.
then swimming, reading, chilling out by the pool or strolling along the beach looking for shells, arrow points, little hidden treasures...moulding clay faces with the mud from the crumbling cliffs...cleaning the fresh mussels in the shallow water by the roks , to help out for a succulent dinner (but only if you wish!)...
until it's time for dinner on the terrace by the pool, when the sun goes down and the view of the cliffs is better than ever , with the light turning pink and beautiful and all the animals getting ready to sunset.
you'll have to start dinner considerately, because Laura won't let you get to the end of it: there's always too much to eat and too tasty and delicious to renounce even one dish!! so whatch out if you want to make it to the fruit, liqueur and coffee. needless to say, everything is cooked and prepared freshly in the adjacent kitchen, and often even produced on the place (like cheese, all the vegetables, and whatnot).
la republica delle pergole it's a truly great and rare place. Laur and Mimmo are guests full of stories, smart , funny and incredibly open-minded; if you are looking for friends on top of hosts, then that's the right place to be.
I recommend at least a visit in a lifetime at the Repubblica, of you want to experience that Southern Italy is far more than pizza pasta mafia, and has a different, inescapable charme :)
