“Mosquito paradise”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

The B&B is located very close by Florence and is newly built. You can only get here by a dirt road, which is fairly steep. The rooms are nice but fairly small, fairly clean, though the shower doors in the bathroom grow some mold. The breakfast served is plentiful with some fresh fruits. The view from the terrace is very nice, though you can still hear and see the busy motorway running at the bottom of the hill. The place is advertised as an old property of Nicholo Machiavelli, however very little is explained about him and his life in this part of Tuscany. There are lots of plants and flowers, which naturally attract bugs, which in turn attack visitors. A mosquito repellent system needs to be introduced. Last but not least the wifi connection is almost non-existent, so be very patient when surfing on Internet if you manage to connect. The closest restaurant is only open a few days per week, the other eating options are a short car drive away. The owner is friendly, however speaks very little English. His colleague Matteo gives a more helping hand if needed.
Overall, a fairly disappointing experience.

Good evening , my name is Simone Calonaci , I do not know Sig.OGFO and perhaps when confronted with his real name could better respond to this review , I accept the advice and criticism from anyone need to improve, however, if Mr. OGFO Plants and Flowers are a defect there is always the city where there are plants and flowers but there is always traffic and mosquitoes.
Best regards

My friend and I stayed here in 2010 and I still have such fond memories that i am writing a review 2 years later after looking at some trip photos. Simone and Matteo were wonderful hosts. The place was quaint and clean and the location was amazing. If you want the Tuscan experience of vineyards, stone buildings and history this is a great start. The morning breakfast was delicious and such a treat eating on the deck overlooking the vineyard. It has a lovely pool and a lovely walk up to the town. If you book this place and you are driving make sure you get good directions because it is a bit hard to find, but once you are there you will not want to leave. I have recommended this to my friends and I hope to come back one day.

Just returned from a 7 day trip with wife and 2 year old. The Fonte del Macchiavelli was a perfect B & B with a great location. 30-50 minutes from Florence, Siena San giminiano etc. Service was excellent and very friendly. The owners were very helpful as well. Breakfast was abundant and served on the terrace with a great view. Very close restaurants (5 minutes) for a meal after a day travelling across Tuscany. Rooms were very clean and had that rustic feel. Owners also organized two events during two evenings, a Tuscan night and a typical Tuscun meal. Both were a great success and excelled value for money. Would recommend this to anyone and will look forward to book another week for my family in the near future.

Spent a week based here which was convenient since it is only 20 mins from Florence and a few minutes from the A1 Autostrada (highway). The B&B itself was nice and clean, rustic style, had a nice pool which was a bit chilly - great after a day traveling around under the Tuscan sun. The breakfast was great, especially for a hotel/B&B in Italy. The owners were also quite nice and they organised a wine night and a Tuscan night while we were there which were both quite nice. The terrace has great views and the view from the bedroom was picture perfect. Might be a bit tricky until you get used to the fact that part of the road is a dirt road, but it is not a big issue once you know about it. Restaurants are also quite close by so if you do not feel like going far you can drive 5 mins to the nearest restaurant.

Would suggest taking mosquito spray/repellent. At the end of the day any property surrounded by fields and a small lake would have some mosquitoes.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a view overlooking the terrace, definitely worth the price

We stayed here for three nights. During the day the views take your breath away and in the evening when we walked up the road to a local restaurant the fireflies flitting between the grapevines were absolutely enchanting. My husband and I were traveling with our eight and ten year old boys and stayed here while visiting Florence and other area and found it very convenient, easy to get to everything. It was lovely to start and end the day in this place. It was so relaxing for my husband and myself while our kids swam in the pool and hunted for the local lizards that hid in the lavender that is everywhere! Great people run this place. They only drawback was that I did gain about five pounds eating the fabulous croissants and breakfast.

Room Tip: Our kids each had a twin bed to sleep in which is a Huge plus!

My family and I just returned home from our first trip to Italy. While we were there, we had the pleasure of staying at the La Fonte del Machiavelli, outside of Florence. The only problem was that we took a bus to get there (I should have rented a car). Our host, Simone greeted us, and made our family feel like part of his family coming for a visit. Being without a car, Simone personally drove us to a fine Tuscan restaurant and then picked us up when we finished. The b&b is in the center of a vineyard on the property of Machiavelli. Wow, It was just what we hoped it would look and feel like. On the second night we were invited to dine on property to a true Tuscan feast, served by Simone himself. Everything was wonderful.
I think we were the "other" couple that melissa992 wrote about, getting lost on a return bus trip.
Remember - rent a car while there. I'll know better on my next visit.
Thank you again Simone - Gratzie!
Andy, Maria, Stephanie and Lauren

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cellini and Bottichelli rooms on the ground floor - both were very comfortable.

The bed and breakfast is in a beautiful location in the Tuscan countryside. The rooms are charming, and the entire locale is just breathtaking. The host, Simone, could not be more helpful (while I was there, two other guests had a bus "adventure," winding up on the other side of the mountain, and Simone went to pick them up!). We arrived early (check-in is at 3 PM) but our rooms were already ready and we were able to unpack and get a head start on our exploration of the region. The village of San Casciano itself has an historic district, with several churches and the remains of the walls surrounding the old city. It is a great location for exploring the area IF you have a carf!! We visited Barberino, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, and Montefioralle while there, While there, Simone also offered a Tuscan dinner our second evening: if he does, definitely take advantage of the offer!! The food was delicious, copious, and served by Simone himself. This is definitely a place that I hope to return to in the future!!!!

Room Tip: There are only six rooms, which makes for a very intimate atmosphere. Our room faced the pool, whic...
