the entire building and matching landscape are what makes this complex so special
had lunch up on riof at their nice restaurant which will open for weekend dinners in June
it is run by Matia who previously cooked with my neice at Antinori's great Osteria de Passignano which I recommend you take a special dinner there

If you enjoy Italian wines then you know that Antinori crafts some of the best. This winery, which primarily produces their Chianti Classico brands, is an extremely modern design that incorporates all of the new technologies in wine making. The building is built into the landscape and most of it is underground. It looks like something out of a James Bond movie.
The tour is pretty standard but the architecture and coolness factor is well worth the 20 Euro. After the tour you get to sample 4 or 5 of their wines and if that is not enough you can sample many more in the wine shop for a price. You can also wonder through their museum which has a lot of the history of the Antinori family that dates back to 1180.
They also have a restaurant named after the first Antinori Runuccio 1180. The food and service is good and they have all of their fabulous wines available by the glass.
The winery is only 20 or so minutes from Florence and makes a great side trip or lunch destination.

This is the way to built a modern facility with respect to the landscape. The winery is built into the hillside of Bargino in a way you can almost miss it when you drive the highway between Firenze and Sienna. The winery itself is very impressive. The guided tour includes pleasant tasting of the Classico and is short and nice but you have to make reservation in advance and there is an annoying fee of 20 euros. Nevertheless this is a must visit for architects.

If you are a wine lover or have interest in the history of Italian wine - you need to see this place! Built only a couple of years ago, with tremendous respect for Tuscany culture and traditions on personlal funds of Antinori family, which counts almost a thousand years history in this region. Increadible architecture!
Restaurant inside the building is worh staying for the lunch and has a nice view on wineyards. The wine tour itself is nothing specail though, provided this kind of family history could be much more interesting.

To be honest, we went to visit this winery initially for the unusual architecture and concept of integrating something like this in the Tuscan landscape. And we where not disappointed.

We followed the guided tour (you have to make reservations in advance) and got everything to see. The explanations we got where really professional (and not only related towards the process of making wine, but as well on questions we had about the construction of the building).

The tour ended with a tasting of 3 wines, and thereafter you have plenty of time to visit the museum and the shop.
