“When can we come back?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

My husband and I started a 10-day trip through Portugal with 3 nights here. Aside from being incredibly beautiful, the entire place smells like flowers and citrus. Noor, Ard and Charlie were friendly, had great recommendations, and man can they cook! Breakfast each morning was delicious and the night we ate dinner there was one of our best meals in the country. It's a convenient location to venture out and explore the entire Algarve - or, just spend your time relaxing by the pool and beautiful grounds. With so many beautiful places to see in the world, we rarely go to the same place twice, but we can't wait to come back here with our kids. Thanks for making our 10-year wedding anniversary so special!

My husband and I stayed at the QDCV from 18th July to 1st August 2014. We desperately needed a break and a total unwind. This is exactly what we found in the beautiful surroundings of the Quinta. Ard, Noor, Bas and Charlie are terrific hosts, making us feel welcome, relaxed and looked after. Nothing was too much trouble, including doing our laundry, posting our postcards and booking my husband's massage (which he had on the deck at the end of the garden).

The Quinta itself is immaculately presented. The décor is eclectic, really tasteful, warm and inviting. Both inside and outside there are lots of lovely places to sit with a book or a cold drink. The pool is surrounded with a plentiful supply of loungers and umbrellas, so there is never any need to fight for space. The terrace, where breakfast is served, is a little bit of paradise overlooking the gardens, which are stocked with, amongst other things, fig, lime, orange and olive trees.

Make sure you take your appetite when you visit. Ard's food is awesome! Breakfast is huge every day - fruit, yogurt, pastries, croissants, fresh bread, eggs, bacon, fresh juice - and served with a cheery smile. Three nights a week Ard offers a four course dinner, if guests would like to eat in. Every meal was prepared from wonderful ingredients. I don't eat meat and Ard prepared a different dish for me, if the main course was meat. My husband eats meat and described the beef he was served during our first meal at the Quinta as a 'Matrix steak' - the one that makes you not care if things are real or not, because it is so good! The guys are also available throughout the day if you want a light lunch or something to drink.

For the nights when dinner is not being served, Charlie, Bas and Ard gave us lots of advice on places to eat and made all the reservations for us. We particularly enjoyed O Jacinto, a fish restaurant frequented mainly by Portuguese. We ate there twice and the cataplana on our first visit was outstanding.

We can't praise the Quinta and our hosts highly enough and still can't quite get over the value for money we feel we got. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: If possible, go for one of the new rooms, right at the end of the Quinta, as they have their own lit...

My boyfriend and I just recently got back from 15 days in Algarve, the trip being our first to Portugal. A late booking made it very difficult for us to choose available accommodation, and good accommodation seemed to be hard to find. We needed to stay close enough to Lagos / Sagres, since we were to spend our days windsurfing, and preferred not to spend too much time driving.

Although, the most tempting hotels & bed & breakfast seemed to be in Tavira, this was too far away for us. Situated in Boliqueime (approx 1 hour drive from Sagres) Qunita da cebola Vermelha (QDCV) soon became my favorite while searching accomodation online. Luckily they had recently had a cancellation and we were able to book 6 nights.

After having arrived Portugal/Algarve two days before, already quite disappointed about Algarve and our first stay, we were so happy to arrive QDCV! Everything about it was absolutely perfect! The areas were clean and tidy. The style was impeccable. The room was very nice and clean. I was so relieved to immediately be able to relax, not to worry about anything. The outdoor areas and its surroundings were equally stylish and absolutely beautiful, and eating breakfast on the terrace as well as the dinner (3 times a week) was amazing. But the most important asset to this bed & breakfast was the ambience. Immediately from the second we entered, we could hear the smooth and glamourous jazz music playing in the background, while being welcomed by Ard, the owner.

This stay is all about style and all about creating the perfect atmosphere for everyone. We chose to stay in for all three dinners during our stay (saturdays, tuesdays & thursdays). They are without doubt, the best dinners we had during our whole stay. Gourmet, and great value.

I have to point out, I am extremely picky when it comes to accommodation. I always spend a lot of time searching for the best ones, and if its not clean, I am simply not able to relax. QDCV was my favorite before we arrived, and turned out to be the only favorite after having been there. We would probably not go to Algarve again, but we might just want to visit only for staying at QDCV. If you enjoy bed & breakfast, but still want style and a great atmosphere, I could most definitely recommend Quinta da Cebola Vermelha - I doubt you will find a similar one in Algarve!

Room Tip: I didn´t see the other rooms, but since all the other areas were perfectly decorated and clean, I d...

We returned for a second holiday with high expectations and happy memories from our previous stay. We were not disappointed. This is a stunning place and we were able to relax and unwind quickly. The 9 rooms are spacious, clean and individually decorated. The salt water pool and pool area are beautifully kept and set out. The family look after you amazingly and nothing is too much trouble. Their breakfasts are quite simply the best we have ever experienced and then there is also the option to have an incredible supper there on certain nights. A very special place.

What a stunningly beautiful place! Very comfortable, superbly decorated, you feel like at home. What a nice, spacious garden with a well maintained swimming pool! The hosts are a very great Dutch family, reading every wish from your eyes. We have travelled the world, but there is no other place, where we got such a prefect holiday feeling as at the Quinta da Cebola Vermelha. Ard was so helpful with suggestions on how to spend the day, what to see, where to eat, what to visit. And he is a dedicated chef, preparing dinners you will remember for weeks to come! The Quinta is simply heaven on earth.

Room Tip: The Quinta has only 9 rooms. Therefore be advised to make an early reservation.

Ard and family have transformed this property into a wonderful calm oasis within 20 minutes drive of the bustle of Faro and the Agarve resorts, the rooms are spotlessly clean, large and well appointed. Breakfasts prepared and served by the family are served on the terrace. Dinner on the nights offered are great with large portions and are good value for money.

We spent four nights there recently whilst touring the Algarve and it was great to come home to QDCV fall into the lovely saltwater pool and relax with a Port/Tonic

I am absolutely delighted to give this resort 5 stars in all categories and to completely agree with others' comments. The only potential problem, which is not of the owners' making, is that its location on Google Maps is wrong. The QdaCV is next door to the Casa Porta Azul which is correctly shown.
