“It was nice”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

We stayed in this hotel for 10 nights. I am quite hard to please and because we always stay in 5 star hotels, I expect a lot. I believe if you are paying this sort of money (£6000) you should definitely get the best.

Lets start with the very positive things
- breakfast- very very nice... would consider that 5 star. only if you staying for as long as we stayed you would welcome a bit of variety which you won't get as every day you have the same stuff.
- garden - fantastic, loved the frog sounds in the evening
-dinner - did vary... some nights we loved our food some night it was ok... Portions are tiny, sometimes your main would look like a starter :)
-beach- it says private beach... but... it is shared with another hotel and there always was some local people... one side of the beach is private.
-beach stuff- extremely helpful
-restaurant stuff- very helpful but poor english which often leads to misunderstanding on orders...
- classy customers- not noisy kids, people reading books and know how to behave to do not disturb others
- beautiful fruit cocktails in the bar next to the spa

negatives-
more evening entertainment
- sometimes it felt too quite, would appreciate every other night some decent singer or piano play
- overpriced (especially minibar - mini cadbury chocolate for e5) positive news were cocktails prices which was only for e7,5
- bad area outside hotel... imagine sort of graffiti and block of flats. If you do not want to discover places around its not a problem.
- hotel room- you would get bottle of water for bedroom only on arrival, won't be free every day.
- lunch - my husband get food poisoned ofter beef burger which was undercooked
I was so annoyed when I ordered salad for lunch and I had on my plate everything from the breakfast bar!!! The same ham, same fruit, not excellently presented for e13 !

Over all experience... we had a nice time off, weather was fantastic but I am afraid this would not be the place we will return to.

Recommendation? From all reviews bellow, I believe it would be better experience to stay for short stay only. As long stay could be quite stereotype.

Very poor quality hotel...

1 - Rooms were not ready long past the check-in time;
2 - Shower was not cleaned for at least two days; (same seaweed, as pictured) stayed in the same place...
3 - Beds were not opened in one of the nights;
4 - in the Thalasso anything edible takes a minimum of 30 minutes;
5 - They offer you one hour of tennis but make you pay for balls and rackets;
6 - Room was not arranged at 7pm in one day;

I am sure anyone can find better value for the amount I paid. An absurd.

It is regrettable that such a prestigious online platform such as TripAdvisor is used to undermine the image of Vilalara Thalassa Resort, an award-winning hotel for its quality and service, only with the intent of getting a 50% rebate on the amount spent. Totally inappropriate!

But “one swallow doesn't make a summer”...

Just amazing. We went with a 1yr old and had the best service in the world including blending 3 meals a day for the little one. Rooms tastefully decorated, clean and new. Beach is just beautiful. Pools were very peaceful so it was a good place to relax. Spa was great! The only thing I would improve is more fresh fish and seafood for dinner. If we are heading for Portugal, we will definitely return to Vilalara!

Excellent resort with nicely maintained garden, private beach, and far reaching seaviews high on a cliff top. A few tennis courts and golf nearby, plenty of swimming pools too. All the staff are very helpfull and friendly. The food at the restaurant are of very high standard, and the grill offers an excellent selection of seafood for lunch as well. Has a very good collection of local wine on the winelist all reasonably priced. The resort is very family friendly, and a very nice lady helped us to babysit our 8 months son for a few afternoons so we can enjoy some free time and the spa. Everything is very good, as you'd expect from a SLH hotel. This place is certainly not cheap but consider what it offers, it is still very good value.

stayed here for a long weekend in july, from the moment you arrive to the sad moment you leave, you just cant fault this place for there high standards, check in was quick, cool towels were provided. Rooms are first class very roomy and have all the mod cons this sort of place would have, 1 of our party had a problem with her A/C in her room, this was not sorted and she was moved to another room, which was out of this world(would suit couples on a romantic trip or even honeymoon) the gardens and scenery are breathtaking, The hotel has 3 pools, all are stunning we mainly sat by the main pool overlooking the beach a fine cliffs. The beach is well kept water looked fine but never went in as was far too cold. The restaurant which over looks the pool is where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. Breakfast is very good as was lunch, plenty of choice and a wide variety, good choice for even fussy eaters like myself and daughter. Dinner was a bit disappointing myself, other half(boss) and daughter would have had problems if we stayed a week, although dont be put off by this they are very accommodating to your own needs. Drinks were first class, excellent beers, cocktails and wines, my partner and auntie are fine red wine drinkers and found the choice very good. Would i return to this place, Yes i would the staff are a credit to their employees and should you go here you will know what i mean, well done. 1 more thing they have a excellent spa, we didnt go due to our short trip[

Room Tip: send me a message and i will give you the number of the room my auntie stayed in, ideal for couples

I cannot recommend this hotel enough everything about it exudes quality from the setting to the rooms and the superb friendly and attentive staff who genuinely seem pleased to have you there.

We were looking for a relaxing secluded holiday and that is exactly what we got here.

I agree it is not cheap but this is a true 5 star resort and you get exactly what you pay for 5 Star luxury with amazing views in a stunning setting.

We will definitely be going back as soon as we can.

If you want to give yourselves a treat then head here for as long as you can.
