“Picture perfect resort with outstanding food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2009

I stayed here for 3 nights during my honeymoon, it wasn't long enough! Stay for longer. VVP is so relaxing and beautiful, impecably maintained and very friendly service. We stayed in the residences and liked our room very much, spacious with a step down to a seating/living room area, sliding glass doors to an outdoor patio overlooking some grass and landscaping. The bathroom was large and luxurious, the bed was very compfortable and had nice linens. We enjoyed sitting on the grass and looking out over the cliffs to the ocean. To get a lounge chair on the beach either go early or go late becuase seating is limited. We liked being up on the grass because it is closer to the bar and food. Since your bill can add up quickly with food and drink we found a reasonable alternative for lunch, ordering by the pool, just a sandwich and a beer, (no cover charge for bread and olives). For dinner we liked the Portugeuse restaurant the best, outdoor seating, try the flaming sausge app, the sardines or sea bass, fig ice cream, it was all deliciuos. We also discovered an excellent cocktail, the white port cocktail with tonic and mint at the Whale Restaurant which was a close second. After dinner we liked going up to the main house to listen to the live music and sit outside. The only crticism I have is that it was difficult to find, there weren't many signs and we got lost. They weren't able to give us an exact address for our GPS so that was the problem. We figured out that it was listed under hospitality on our Garmin and finally got there. This was handsdown an amazing place that is worth the cost - it is perfect. I wish we had more days there to play on the golf course, it looks like a super-mini golf course, most holes were a long chip shot, so not intimidating, looked like fun. we did the 2 hour boat ride to the caves, it was a good activity, some real pretty ones. Go in the afternoon when the tide is lower so you can go inside some of them on the boat.

We were very impressed with the service here. The staff were very curteous & the food very good quality. Plenty of fresh fruit , vegetables & fish. We booked half board, which we would not normally do, as we had read a trip advisor report beforehand which said that this hotel was expensive & with the current economic climate weren't quite sure how much it would cost to eat there on a daily basis. We need not have done so as the prices on the a la carte menu seldom exceeded the fixed price we had paid for half board. To give an idea of cost, our daily expendicture for the two of us, including half board, lunch & bar bills averaged 200 euros per day. Comments in other Trip Advisor reports that this hotel's services were overpriced we felt were unjustified. In our view they were similar to other 5* luxury hotels we have stayed at throughout Europe. Yes it is an expensive hotel, but still value for money if you are looking for an exceptionally well managed luxury hotel. However we did have one bad experience at the Aladin Grill, when the service was very poor, but this was soon rectified by the on duty manager. We also ate at the Ocean Gourmet Restaurant & thought this was excellent. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Go & enjoy this beautiful hotel in it's superb grounds.

Great time had by all at the VVP. Fantastic (if a bit expensive at 50 euros per morning) kids club. Great care taken with the kids, good facilities, activities and play areas. Seemed very safe. Good choice of restaurants albeit a couple don't allow young children in. Can understand that...to a point. Would like to have taken mine!! But wouldn't have wanted anyone elses!! The food was good rather than great and the menus did not change frequently enough for a top class hotel. But that's nitpicking. And they do all have children menus that will accommodate all but the youngest kids.Rooms immaculately clean, well equipped and comfortable. Satellite TV worked fine although inhouse films etc was not working. The grounds were immaculate. Totally manicured and really quite special. Service from everyone and anyone was first rate.
The communal areas in the main building were quite 'colonial' and of a very high standard.
All in all a first rate, top end hotel. Expensive? A bit but not off the scale. Don't go if you want a 3 euro chicken-in-a-basket with a 1 euro coke!
Lots of stairs made this otherwise child friendly hotel a bit of a chore but it wouldn't put us off going back. Indeed, we'd rush back in a minute.

An update to a previous review - we've just returned from our third visit to Vila Vita Parc, and once again cannot praise it highly enough for its lovely gardens, brilliant but low-key children's facilities and simply brilliant staff - how do they do it?!

I am fairly well travelled and used to staying in good hotels (worked as crew for BA for several years) but the service at Vila Vita takes the biscuit - outstanding people, nothing is too much trouble, genuinely seem to enjoy working there. It's the attention to detail and anticipating needs which make it such a relaxing place to stay with small children. We absolutely love it!

My only (very mild!) criticsm would be that some of the dining is a bit "fussy" - but this is massively outweighed by the positives.

PS: What a contrast to the indifferent and sloppy "customer care" provided by BA flying from Gatwick to Faro to get there - very disappointing!

I have written a previous review on Vila Vita(Apr 2007) but I love this place so just a quick update, this is our third year to return, we always go in April and sometimes you take your chances with the weather for the first few days we had rain but the next seven were lovely, I like this time of the year as it is lovely and quiet and with two children under three it is not too hot.

It is a beautiful resort, so green and lush and immaculate. There is every type of accomodation available, we stayed in the main building this year as we have a young baby and I didn't want to have to walk too far for breakfast. You are very welcomed if you have children but there is also plenty of areas and restaurants which children are not allowed in so everyone is catered for. I feel very comfortable with the childcare on offer, we have used it in some form over the last three years and it is lovely to get a little time on your own.

The food is fantastic, the breakfast buffet is outstanding, every possible taste is catered for and it is a great start to the day.Again the dinners are delicious and there is plenty of variety, we had dinner in their gourmet restaurant the Ocean and it was outstanding, it was even better than a michlien star restaurant we visited one night whilst on holiday, I can't imagine it will be too long before they get their first star!

The staff are fantastic, very pleasent and friendly. As I have said in a previous review the surrounding areas are not nice but you have plenty of things to do at the hotel or you can always hire a car and explore.

It was very quiet this year and I suspect that is due to value of the pound against the euro. This is an expensive hotel so be prepared however if you are aware of this you will have a wonderful holiday, beautiful hotel and surroundings, amazing food, great staff, reassuring childcare and a great spa. If you can treat yourself do it, you will not be disappointed, I look forward to returning next year!

This hotel really is a beautiful place. The gardens are quite awesome, so well tended it is like living in Kew Gardens!

The service is excellent, the rooms are great (see point below), beach is next to hotel and is almost private to the hotel (there are no private beaches in portugal, all beaches are public access), the food is amazing.

On the downside, they seem only to have single beds pushed together (maybe this is same everywhere in portugal, I dont know), it is very Expensive to eat in the restaurants - it is superb food but allow 50+ Euro a head to eat every night (plus wine). It is a German run hotel and is well attended by German nationals that do not seem to have the same issues with nudity as the more reserved British (to be fair, the hotel explicitly asks people to cover up in the sauna and the beach, but that is not enforced).

This resort is well attended by the rich and famous, so you can tell it is a 'quality' resort.

Most people we met seemed to come back year after year and apparently you get a reasonable discount if you are a returning customer (so that would definately help on the hotel bill front!)

Basic advice, if you haven't got pots of money, stay away - but if you want a really fanatastic place to stay and gain a few pounds (of weight!) in the process, this is perfect.
