Be Live Family Palmeiras Village
Ranked #3 of 6 Hotels in Porches
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Just returned from a week at the Be Live for our first family holiday with 2 young children. We stayed in a family suite, which was perfect as children shared a room and my wife and I had separate room we could relax in evening rather than stretch the children out and make them overtired. Hotel is immaculately clean, there always seems to be staff cleaning. Hotel run kids club is small but good for little ones with lots of fun activities. My toddler certainly enjoyed the activities and small room with toys as a break from the sun. Staff are generally extremely helpful and can't do enough for you. Food is delicious, varied and fresh, even vegetarians wouldn't tire of it. 24 hour snack bar v useful for children needing to top up! The children's pool area is ample for little ones and beaches are with 10/15 mins walk; bit steep on the way back with a buggy. Porches itself has very little to do in the evening, which didn't bother us as we stayed in the room/took it in turn to get drinks/ sit in lobby. However, families with older children or those wanting to go out in evening would find it boring as there is no nightlife.

Couple of drawbacks which resulted in a 4 rating rather than a 5:
1) room configuration had the main bedroom through a door off the hall, wife and I consequently slept on the camp bed rather than the main bed, which was comfortable enough, but this should db changed
2) we had a room just off the lobby and it can be v noisy at night. People not moderating their voices or letting over tired children run up and down the corridors was inconsiderate
3) 24hr reception did not always mean 24hr English speaking reception which was annoying for an international hotel

Overall though, highly recommended and we would go back (albeit on a higher floor) or to another hotel in this chain.

Room Tip: Avoid the same floor as reception (rooms 13xx) as they can be noisy.

We had an amazing time from start to finish! The hotel was stunning and the staff couldn't do enough to help you. The food was perfect (a huge standard for all inclusive) and the alcohol and soft drinks were brilliant :)

WOW. What a great hotel, immaculate and beautiful. Great, spacious rooms, impeccable hotel, huge, comfy beds, very clean and polished. The food was amazing, very varied including a kids menu of burgers chips etc. Many theme nights for food, was always tasty and fresh. 24 hour snack bar and soft drinks OMG burgers, toasties, hot dogs, croissants, muffins, ice
cream available all the time!!!! The beach is a
short walk but the swimming pool area is lovely. The animation team were great and friendly, if you ever need anything just "ask Jhan"!!! Very family friendly hotel with kids clubs for various ages, have to mention had hd TV that has quite a few English channels!!!!! There was also some form of entertainment every night.
Both soft drinks and alcoholic drinks were readily available including frozen cocktails. All staff were friendly and genuine. 45 mins approx transfer time. Used best transfers 4 u who were very professional approx £20 pp return as opposed to £70 one way by taxi.is a little out of the way, but if you want true rest and relaxation with everything handed to you, it is truly an exceptional hotel

This hotel is absolutely fantastic. Spotlessly clean and the staff are so friendly. Especially the bar men in the main bar lobby. The entertainment staff are also great and constantly have something to offer if you want something to do. The resteraunt is great and the selection of food is wonderful and very tasty especially the home made desserts. Overall this hotel has made our visit even better. The only faults I would have is that the breakfast does not begin until 8 am and in my opinion a 7 am start would be better as we were getting collected for airport at 7.30 and a coffee to start our journey would have been nice. Also evening entertainment for our age group (early 30s) wasn't very good and even when we did go down to see anything it was very hard to get a seat. Will definitely be returning and the hotel would be the icing on the cake if these small faults were addressed.

Brand new hotel still in the making to complete complex. It's currently very quiet but is well worth the stay and has excellent all inclusive menus. At the time only one restaurant was open but never the less the standard is good it has a full kitchen stay working there from a previous hotel I had stayed in abc they have brought their high standards with them
Staff and kind and friendly with nothing being a problem and clean and well maintained room are a excellent.

Going to go back within the next few months

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view away from the staff entrance on the east wing

We arrived on 29 August for a 14 night stay, our party consisted of four adults and our first impression of the hotel was good, the receptionist was helpful and spoke English, our room wasn’t ready so he suggested we left our luggage in a secure room behind reception and go to lunch. In the restaurant there was a good selection of salads and fresh fruit which was all we wanted at that time. After lunch we were told our rooms were still not ready so we had a look around the pool area and gardens, there was only one pool and the gardens were small so it didn’t take long, eventually we were told one room was ready and we could leave all our suitcases in there so the receptionist took us to the lift unfortunately only one lift was working and there wasn’t enough room for 5 adults and four suitcases so my sister-in-law and I opted to use the stairs. When we arrived on the 4th floor the room we were shown smelt of cigarette smoke which was totally unacceptable, the hotel had a no smoking policy in the hotel so the receptionist took us back to reception to leave our cases while another room was prepared eventually at 4.30pm our rooms were ready. The rooms were large and comfortable and the bathroom was large and clean. The view from the balcony overlooked the rubbish bins and at night the staff emptied all the empty wine bottles into the bins. We could see the sea in the distance but the best view was of scrub land with a small herd of goats grazing!!

Following our first impression the holiday went from bad to worse the restaurant was very noisy, even when people spoke at the normal level their voices echoed around the restaurant which made it more like a factory canteen or child’s playground than a restaurant in a 4 Star hotel. Also the tables were laid out in long rows with only 5-10cm between parties of guests this was far too close for comfort and did not allow quiet conversations with friends. On a number of occasions the waiters were unable to clear the tables fast enough to accommodate guests who dined later.

The food at lunch and dinner was awful there was a total lack of flavour and the hot food was never hot enough even the food cooked to order at the grill was soon cold due to lack of warm plates also the side dishes in the Bain-Marie were at best tepid. My husband thought the sausages were tasty but they were cold. The cold buffet was better but again the food was bland all the meats were processed however they did serve tinned tuna at most servings which was better than the processed meat. They also served prawns and other shellfish, if you could eat them, unfortunately I can’t eat prawns so that left the tuna or cold mackerel. The dessert at both lunch and dinner was a selection of large slices of cake, small squares of cake, jelly, tinned fruit, blancmange etc however there was a good selection of fresh fruit and ice cream.

Although lunch and dinner were not up to expectation the continental breakfast was okay, the bread rolls were delicious and there was plenty of fruit and pastries on offer. Yogurt was available in small tubs or if you wanted to help yourself out of large bowls there was a selection of two or three flavours unfortunately they were never labelled so you had no way of knowing what was in the bowl and you couldn’t be sure whether anyone had taken a spoonful to taste. Again the hot breakfast left a lot to be desired. The criteria of the hotel is quantity not quality.

The restaurant, bar and reception were very noisy, children were allowed to run around screaming, shouting and climbing on the furniture especially in the reception area and bar. The management were noticeable by their absence. Also even though the reception was manned no member of staff thought to ask the parents to control their children and stop them climbing on the furniture. There was no consideration for other guests.

There were no information leaflets about the area available in reception although they did photocopy a section of a map which showed where the beach was unfortunately we already knew that. The gardens and pool were nice and clean but there were not enough parasols or sunbeds, the hotel was full (750 guests) the first week and (600 guests) the second week. Also the sprinkler system used in the gardens did not retract and could have caused a nasty accident if a child or older person had fallen onto them.

In the bedrooms we noticed there were no emergency escape signs and we could not contact reception on the telephone in the room as there were no numbers or information sheets about who to contact in an emergency.

When I emailed customer services on our return regarding the above they informed me that the hotel was a family hotel mainly for Spanish and Portuguese guests and that they spoke louder than other nationalities, we were the only English guests.

The only thing this hotel had going for it was the friendly waiters and bar staff. In conclusion if you are looking for a nice quiet holiday in the sun don’t go to this hotel.

Just recently returned back from this Hotel it was very clean inside and staff were very friendly.
However the Entertainment was bland and incomprehensible unless you spoke the language,
as nothing was explained in English or any other language . We were made to feel like outsiders
by the Entertainment staff including the afternoon activities that were clearly arranged just for the
Portuguese/Spanish.
Although we booked a double sea view room when we arrived we were allocated a twin room with partial sea viewing over looking a Rubbish tip field full of goats and chickens. We had to complain at Reception and was allocated another room but still with the same view.
Also children were allowed to run around in the Restaurant at meal times unsupervised morning
and evenings whist we were eating . On several occasions not enough tables were made up for the amount of people going to eat and the dishes were often repeated and very Spanish garlic rules . This hotel is apparently a 3* going on 4* but is more likely a 2* going to a 3* we will not be returning .

Room Tip: make sure you get the room you book and learn the Language
