We stayed here for four nights over easter weekend. Upon arrival I was a little worried-the outside of the hotel screamed 1970's and I was wondering if I had a made a mistake, but the inside of the lobby looked normal and the inside of the room was charming and beachy. The room also had a balcony and a little kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge, sink and was stocked with plates, cups, utensils etc.
The hotel itself was perched on a cliff with great views and a short downhill walk to the beach. However it is far from from the town center. We had a car so it wasnt a problem and I believe the hotel also offers shuttles back and forth.
The hotel has a nice indoor and outdoor pool area and a gym, sauna and steam room. This place is a great family hotel. If you go with your significant other for a romantic trip it is okay, however be prepared for kids splashing you in the pool, running in and out of the steam room, screaming in the halls etc. I even was interuppted by a grandmother taking pictures of her 4 year old playing in the gym while i was trying to workout. If this would bug you-this hotel may not be for you. Nor would I recommened it for group of friends. That being said its a great family hotel-they have a kids club to entertain the children as well.
One really nice addition was that the staff somehow found out it was my husbands birthday and sent up a complimentary bottle of champagne. A really nice touch! I was very impressed.
My only two small complaints were the wifi in the lobby was spotty and weird-you have to enter a password and you have a session that lasts 24 hours and then you have to ask for a new login and password the next day. The other one was that upon checkin we werent told that free breakfast was included. We found out halfway through the trip by accident and we able to get it the last two days of our four day stay. But really if you are going to offer a free breakfast-tell the hotel guests about it. Besides these two small things, our stay was quite pleasant. I'd return here....i might wait until I have kids though!

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 1 two year old and one 6 year old) stayed here for 3 nights. The 2 bedroom suite was perfect for the 4 of us.
The hotel seems to have been remodelled not long ago and is in good condition: a good value for money since it isn't a very expensive hotel.
My husband went to the indoor pool with our kids and it was also very clean and well maintained - though they should be more attentive since there's an obligation to wear a swimming cap and except for them and another parent and his kid, everyone just swam like they were in the ocean!!!
Another thing I mentioned at checkout is that they should have warm milk at breakfast, not only hot milk from the coffee machines. Especially when this is obviously a hotel destined for families with small children.
We never had any meals there except for breakfast. Parking spaces are also very limited and can only guess that is a significant problem in the summer time when there's more people in this small village.
The beach is very close by, with a nice restaurant/bar there, and the outdoor pool also looks nice - although the weather didn't allow us to try it out.
We also went to a very nice restaurant close by: Vila de Italia.

Some years ago for the first time we took a cheap holiday on the algarve,as always on the first day we were asked if we wanted to go on coach trips to see the local attractions which we declined politely.
We were approached by a nice lady who asked us to have a look at what she had to offer,it was a no obligation trip to see a 4 star hotel 20 minutes away, which was offering holiday ownership (time share) we had no plans made so we took her up on the offer.
The next day we were picked up in a car and taken to Pestana Viking hotel, our first impression was good the staff were polite and obliging we were shown around the hotel and rooms, apartments which were on offer by a very nice english lady, all were of very good quality and all had a uninterrupted sea views, the location in my opinion has to be the best I've ever seen.
All the facilities were of high standard, and after a nice lunch which was paid for,we sign up for a 15 year term,we are 5 years in and look forward more and more each year to our visit to what we call our little piece of heaven, counting the days for this years visit can't wait!.

Room Tip: Sea-wiew at 7 floor will be good.

The hotel could do with a bit of a refurb but that aside a good if not fantastic 4 star hotel, the staff are fantastic very helpful and friendly I never saw one without a smile and a good-morning

Good leisure facilities, spa, indoor pool, gym etc, the breakfast is also decent, if a bit samey, fresh and plentiful, the fresh breads in particular were excellent,

I would echo the comments of other reviewers that the wi-fi access only in the lobby is a bit bizarre but that said they do offer the free use of 2 pc's, (you are on holiday! why does anyone want to spend long using the internet).

We had room 501, I would certainly recommend anyone thinking about this hotel to avoid this and probably any room ending with 01, they are next to the lifts and the noise of lift doors opening can become a bit wearing, thankfully we were here in mid January and the hotel wasn't that busy but I imagine it will be much worse during high season

overall a good hotel for the money, decent location and an Ideal base for many golf courses nearby.

Room Tip: avoid any room ending with 01, too close to the lift shafts

Nice comfy hotel, could do with a refurb. Having said that, facilities good, rooms good, staff excellent and enough decent bars nearby for something a bit different. We had a really good value for money break her last year and the local beaches are ver good. Looking for a venue that will not break the bank, then this is good bet!

I have stayed in this hotel for 2 days with my family.
The Pestana Viking Resort, a 4 star hotel, is very well located with direct access to the beach with comfortable rooms.
A continental breakfast, that should be a little better.
It seems to be an old hotel, that must be renovated in some aspects, specially the Internet infrastructure. For a 4 star hotel, it should be possible to connect to the Internet inside the rooms. Because of this aspect I must classify the service and the rooms as "poor". The other aspects of the service and the should be classified as "very good".

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side have beautiful views of the sea and the internal park.
