“Peaceful hotel”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

The hotel is not directly by the beach, but the views from top cliff are splendid. The hotel staff is helpful, breakfast varied and plentiful. Quiet hotel, always enough sunbeds, perfect for the relaxation.

I have recently returned from a wonderful family holiday here where we held a special family gathering of 24 persons aged between 18 months and 80 years including many teenagers and mature adults. This hotel provided an ideal setting for our group offering activities and facilities for all ages. Staff are friendly and courteous, and the rooms are clean. The nearby beach tends to be rather crowded as it also offers boat hire but there are other quieter beaches within walking distance, but in most cases the hotel pools met our family needs. The adults also enjoyed the Wellbeing massage, etc, facilities, tennis, and football on offer. I recommend it highly for family holidays.

Room Tip: The garden view rooms offered lovely views and shade on the verandahs in the hot afternoons.

We spent in Pestana Viking two weeks in August/September 2013. It's one of the best hotels we've ever been. The rooms are big and clean. No umba-umba 1000W music. Food is great. People are friendly and professional. You need to walk down (stairs) a bit to go to the beach. Fantastic views.
The only minus that they suddenly stopped to serve breakfasts outside.
If you need to connect to the internet, you have to visit reception desk every day to get user name and password.

Room Tip: Room no. 406 seems to have a bit bigger balcony that others.

Background: Spent a week in this hotel coordinated to celebrate a family event - mother's 80th birthday. 24 of us booked the resort and we all converged for a week.

The key features which everyone should know about have already been described n various reviews. In summay:
- Main outdoors pools are sea/salt water filled - toddlers need goggles to swim in it. They are clean and well serviced.
- Indoor pool is fine but not warm, just room temperature. But it is fresh water based.
- Not much toddler games area or toys, could be improved with a sand pit and perhaps water features.
- Mosquitos are there but not a hinderance.
- Food is very poor quality and more could be done to up this in terms of quality as opposed to meal variety.
- Local town nearby and lots of good restaraunts near to hotel and in town (on enext to old fort was great (Sontana) plus Tasca).
- Not much to do in town but lots nearby including bull fighting and a visit to "Lands End"
- Buy stuff at local hypermarket for use in room - lunch snacks etc.
- Staff are in general very cheerful and helpful. Room cleaning service was good.
- Hotel is aged, and needs an uplift, it could be so much more.
- Eco beach next door is just brilliant; lovely water and beach. Othe rbeach on RHS was good but for those who like watersports and crowds coming from the resorts surrounding the area.

All in all, we enjoyed it, but it is not a 4 star by our standards but good enough to have a very short, sunny, and relaxing family vacation. A lot more could be done to ensure families booking several rooms are keps more or less together, even if kids are split across the complex. Remember MAdelaine McCain... simply ensuring we stay together would have been a plus.

Room Tip: Go for the the cliff facing apartment suits.

I have spent 10 days with my mum and my little daughter at Prestana Viking this August.
We have enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The room was comfortable and with a nice side ocean view from a balcony. The food was tasty and plenty to choose from (excellent fish every day).

The staff were very helpful.

The hotel entertainment was nice and not imposing. You could still have a good night sleep.

2 lovely beaches within 5 minutes walk (with the Cova Rodonda being nicer and less crowded).

Room Tip: Great view from the 5th floor.

It´s a big hotel, with a lot of guest mainly in summer time.

The rooms are wide some with great views, offering everything you could ask for on business trip or for a few relaxing days on seashore. The staff are helpfull and smiley.

The car park can be tricky, if the hotel have a high occupation ratio, there´s no sufficient car spaces.

One of the TOP things for me was the breakfast, you can find almost everything you can wish, great quality and big, big variety.

The other TOP aspect was the big swimming pool, it´s very big that is a good thing when the hotel have a lot of guests and the surrond of the swimming pool with a view over the sea is also fantastic.

I had a great time, even considering I was on a business trip I have enjoyed everything including the outside amenities.

Not great! I would not give the hotel 4 stars as it is, maybe 3 stars!

The main pool is based on salted water and this can be quite annoying if you are expecting different.
The breakfast is okay ish, if you are expecting to have an English Breakfast then you won't have a problem.
The Menu is limeted and not very exciting, I have chosen to eat out as there are plenty of alternatives around, from pubs, fish, pasta, pizza, etc. things are not always close to you. I have hired a car myself.
The rooms are great, clean and with a handy small kitchen! Great for couples or families. I have two 16 months old and is great!

TIP; been here 3 times now I found a good little local map "freemapsalgarve.com". With everything I have to find going around! Save yourself sometime with good tips.

If you stay at this holtel I would recommend you to visit some places such as: "Armacao da Pera" good beach and loads to do in the evenings. "Senhora da Rocha Beach" 10min walking from the hotel with a bar on it. Carvoeiro is lovely during evenings and with loads of options in terms of restaurants and during the summer with live music on the streets. Top beach! Benagil... It's great... You just can't miss this one! Very charming.

In Portimao you can get a Pirate style ship to see all around... Amazing... You can take standing pictures from beaches, etc.

In general this place is a great place.
