It's not 5 star hotel, but it is fantastic value for money. Laura who runs the place is very nice and warm please . We are couple with 2 young kids 1 and 3 years old. We paid for 1-bedroom apartament and she offer us 2-bedroom with no extra charges for our comfort.
Good location 5 min walk with kids to the beach and 20 min walk to big and cheep supermarket or taxi 3,90 euro :)
The only problem we had is the fact that we had to climb up and down the stairs to access the beach. resort is located on beautiful cliff.
I would go again

Praia da rocha is a friendly, exciting and well worth a visit. Laura who runs the complex in caselos da rocha is the most friendly woman. Her professionalism is second to none and she will always try and help you. Zoo Marine & Slide and slash are well worth a visit. Obario Restaurant is fab and also the hollywood. The Celt bar is great craic and also Irelands Eye Bar. Concorde restaurant, indian, crepe cafes are great too. The night entertainment on the street is lovely and the people in the area are the nicest people you will meet.

We had booked a holiday here for 10 days but on the 5th day my wife broke her ankle while we were walking along a coastal path. The Portuguese people were extremely helpful, especially the lady who owns the apartments. Even before the accident she had been so friendly and helpful and was always making sure our stay was happy and comfortable. The apartments are about 5 to 10 mins walk from the seafront that makes them an ideal location. We really wish we could have had our 10 days of holiday and would like to go back one day and stay there again.

We are a group of four English people 48 to 64.

Stayed at Castelos da Roche apartments in Praia da Roche for two weeks late October early November 2010. Excellent, clean and a steal at the price. Laura who runs the place is lovely and very helpful. Used Algarve 365 for the transfer from and to the airport and again great, informative and reliable people and cheapest I found on taxi transfers. Paia da Roche was pretty much closing down for the season but we still found good restuarants and places to go.

We didn't particularly like the pool area at Castelos (run by the people who run the bar there who have the business up for sale and look like they have lost interest in it) so we walked across to the Solemente apartments and there is a great little bar besides their pool. This bar is run by a multi-lingual German called Rudi. Again he is very helpful. He gave us some tomato marmalade which he makes himself. It is marvelous on toast with a little cheese.

For dancing we went to the Club Praia da Roche apartments where they had a resident duo on the two nights we went.

We Recommend the following places:

Asia and Tokyo (Chinese and Japanese restuarants next door to each other) Asia does a 9.95 euro 5 course dinner including crispy duck and pancakes and Tokyo does a 10.95 eat all you can. Both not to be missed.

For breakfast walk into Praia da Vau. (10 mins if you are fit and 30 mins if you like to take it easy. Even if you are fit, I recommend taking it easy. The walk is beautiful along the coast and not too taxing. Stop in praia da vau at "Patrimonios" for a full English Breakfast at an unbelievable 2 euros 50 cents, Yes! Two Euros and 50 cents. Lovely place, nice people and good food. We also ate in the evening here on two occasions and the quality and experience is amazing for the price. They put lots of presentation into the drinks they serve - even the coffee. It's fun.

Lidl, Continente and Aldi (all next to each other) are easily reached by a 5 minute cab ride. 5 Euros going and 6 Euros coming back (the cab drivers charge extra for using the boot). Worth the trip because you will easily save 11 Euros on local shop prices. You can walk it if your fit (just follow the red "Continente" signs). The number 11 bus goes there also. You can catch that outside Club Praia da Roche and it costs 1 Euro.

We rented a car for 5 days and did the walks and views in the hills around Monchique. The views here are incredible.

We did Vila da bispo, Sagres and Cap St Vincent (they call it the End of the World because the Ancients believed that) You will not believe how windy it was in Sagres. The locals tell me it always is! Well worth braving the wind but take a wind cheater. There is a local old chap who makes his living out of selling ponchos to tourists as they get out of their cars wearing shorts and t-shirts. He laughs all the way to the bank! Vila da bispo and Sagres is the home of Henry the Navigator credited with opening up the New World through his school at Sagres. I loved it because I used to be a Merchant Seaman and I have a personal affinity with old Henry.

There are so many beautiful beaches here that it would take all day to mention them.

Do go to Quartera Market (I think that is on Tuesday, days just seem to drift into one another here) . The market is about two kilometres out of quartera near fonte santa. Usual tourist stuff but still a good two hours. Locally, Silvres and Portimao shopping centre are also worth a visit.

There is a chinese shop near the rounabout where AV6 meets av das comuincades Luciados. This shop sells just about everything but is really good for clothing.

Things to remember and watch for.

Don't be taken in by people who offer cheap cigarettes in the streets. We were approached twice by these con men and spotted the obvious lie. Just say no or it will cost you.

Portuguese resturants put bread, breadsticks, all sorts of treats and savories on your table before your meal arrives. This is standard practise in Portugal and they are never included in the price. Anything you eat will be charged on your bill. If you fancy it, eat it and usually the price is very fair.

If the surf gets up, its great fun just watching the surfers "hanging ten" by the breakwater to the marina.

Enjoy your stay, we did.

I booked these apartments as the reviews they had received were so good. The apartment we were first shown to was not nearly as nice as i had been expecting and once we starting unpacking we realised just how bad it was, the bedroom furniture had broken drawers and looked about 50 years old. There were long black hairs in the beds and my daughter found the sticky bit that is ripped off a tampon before it is used stuck to one of the chairs..charming! We asked to be moved to another apartments which was ok but the beds were the most uncomfortable beds we had ever slept in and again the furniture in the bedrooms was broken. The apartments were within easy reach of the beach but the bar at the pool was not very well stocked and only had basic food and drink. I would definately not go back to these apartments and think that it will be a hotel next time round.

These apartments were exactly what we wanted, great location (5 min walk from the beach and bars), clean and spacious. The owners were also very nice and very helpful.
Praia da Rocha itself is also a very nice place. It has a great beach lots of choice of bars and restaurants but also you can easily get to other areas such as Lagos, Albufeira, Alvor and Silves by bus if you wish to have a day trip out. Also food and drink is cheap. I would definately return if we got the holiday at the same bargain price!
