This hotel has a serene and elegant ambience. It is very quiet and peaceful. The rooms are spacious and very clean and have air conditioning. However the kitchenette would benefit from the provision of a small microwave. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. There is a very nice swimming pool and the gardens are very pleasant. The hotel is in a very beautiful location with stunning sea views and the balconies mostly all have views of the beach. The breakfast menu was very acceptable with something for everyone and the food was plentiful. My husband and I are in our 60's and this hotel suited us for the peace, tranquility and lovely setting. I would return to The Oriental in future years.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are good but those directly over the beach are obviously more expensive.

had the pleasure to stay two nights recently in this wonderfull hotel was simply a perfect stay the only quibble was the age old annoying habit of guest getting up early and claiming loungers by the pool and simply leaving towels on the loungers and therefore thinking the have the right to the right to that lounger for that whole day. i actually met a couple in alvor a different resort from the hotel oriental who admitted to me that they had left towels on there loungers just in case the might need them later. i believe the hotel should employ some time system where if a member of staff notices empty claimed loungers for a certain length of time towels should be removed and loungers freed up. as i said other than that a perfect stay can not recommend the oriental highly enough.

We have just returned from a one week stay, our first time at this hotel. We were allocated a garden room, which was very spacious. Great direct sea views from the big windows and terrace. Comfy beds, linen changed regularly. Constant very hot water, great shower. Kitchenette could have been a bit better equipped, but adequate. Chambermaid washed all our pots every day! Breakfast was very good, with lots of choice, although the same every day. We ate in the dining room on our first night, but would not recommend it. The gardens and general outside areas were good, with plenty of sunloungers and shades. The pool was clean, but very cold! All the staff, with no exceptions, were very very friendly and helpful. Great location with easy access to the beaches direct from the garden. Bus stop right outside the front door. Five minutes walk to all the bars, restaurants etc, and great selection. Try the Safari Restaurant with great sea views and amazing food. The sardine Estopeche is brilliant as is the piri piri chicken and the seafood kebab. We enjoyed our stay very much, and would certainly consider staying there again.

We are regular visitors to the Oriental and have been staying there on a regular basis for 9 years, the last visit being Easter and the next in August. I cannot agree more about the helpful staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. On our last visit the director spoke to us and said the refurbishment is ongoing and the plan for next winter is to update the rooms. Those of you who have stayed before will have noticed the changes in reception, the bar and the gardens.
Can't wait till we go back, its like being with old friends again.
If you are looking for good simple/cheap food, go to the Baccus bar. It's a few minutes from the hotel (turn left as you go out and keep going straight) It is run by Arthu (apologies for spelling) who is a legend. The Marisol on the beach is also brilliant, a family run restaurant with wonderful food for lunch and dinner. The fresh fish is something else, so too is the fresh soup and Cataplana a traditional dish. Nothing is too much for Beta and her Brother Paulo who run the front of house with their father. Mother cooks in the kitchen with other wonderful staff.
Hope this is helpful.

Garden rooms were a little jaded. Probably fair for the price but not up to a very high standard. There was no clock in the room and the T.V.
had a very small screen.
The room was kept clean and the linen changed regularly but may be over run by ants soon as they are already enjoying the shower.
The water was always hot.
Al the staff were pleasant
The lawns were lush and green but the sun loungers were not up to the standard of those in the pool area and were not comfortable.
The only contents of the flower troughs around the ground floor garden rooms were weeds.

Room Tip: Do not occupy a lower garden room. The only advantage was easy access to the garden area.

Just returned home after a ten night stay at the Oriental.
We could not fault this hotel. The breakfast was good, with plenty of choice, the staff were courteous making our stay here enjoyable.
The room was cleaned everyday and clean towels put out as required.
The only thing I cannot comment on was the dinner as we were only B&B but there are plenty of restaurants nearby as the hotel is only two minutes walk from the main bar \ restaurant area.
This made it better at night as you were just out of earshot of the pubs and clubs.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

We have just returned from an 11 night stay at the Hotel Oriental and i have to say it was amazing - food was good lots of things to choose from at breakfast - if you cant find something you like you are very hard to please. The staff were all very helpful and courteous at all times. We stayed in room 26 and the view in the morning was amazing the balcony looked over the gardens and the beach - miss it already. The bed was huge i think it might just about fit in my bedroom at home, it had a small kitchen too with a two hob rings and a fridge which was great for chilling some wine to drink while sitting on the balcony before we went out. The balcony is a good size too and had 2 chairs and a table with two sun loungers as well so was perfect for us to sit and chill. There are lots of bars and restaurants to visit all of which are pretty similar in price although a couple like On The Rocks and The Red Lion had happy hours from 9am to 9pm with large beers 2 euro and a glass of wine for 1 euro - happy days. The view from the bars on the left side of the street is great as if you walk through them from the street they overlook the ocean. The Chinese restaurant which is up above Cheers bar is absolutely amazing we ate there twice :). All in all an excellent holiday and i would definitely go back to the same hotel again it deserves the stars it has.
