We found this hotel very suitable for our two-day stay. Our room was comfortable with a nice side sea view from the balcony. We walked along the beach and spent time swimming in the pool - all very relaxing. They do seem to charge for every little thing; for example, the lock for the room safe and the pool towels (you have to get them from the reception, although they don't advertise that and we had to ask, and they charge you every time you change them.) Staff were helpful and spoke good English.

There is convenient access to the beach via stairs from the pool area. Breakfast was fine and we enjoyed drinks and a sandwich from the bar near the pool, although we did not try dinner there. We found the restaurants at the end of the beach near the marina more appealing than the ones on the street in front of the hotel. We were lucky to get street parking in one of the hotel's few reserved spots but otherwise would have had to park on the street a block a way.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the oriental, the 1st 7 years ago.
The hotel hasnt changed and is still really good, apart from the esplanade bar on the side of hotel closed and has been for a while by all accounts which was a dissapointment.
We stayed for 10 days as a belated honeymoon,we were allocated a garden room on the ground floor which was perfect and quiet, with stunning sea views . we were given a complimentary bottle of champagne and strawberrys dipped in chocolate, which was unexpected and very nice of the staff, who were very pleasant and helpful.
As for praia de rocha as a town it has gone downhill in the past 7 years in my opinion, very few decent bars and resteraunts to eat and drink at.
The best we found was the dockside bar and resteraunt by the marina, great views and food spot on.
We visited alvor quite a few times and the choice of bars and resteraunts there was much much better, great little village.
Praia de rocha needs some investment as a town before i'll be going back.

We have stayed here three times, once in June and twice in September.
The hotel is situated at the nicer end of the resort near the little harbour. The hotel itself is small and personal which we like, with very friendly helpful staff.
The bedrooms are all spacious with a large good quality bed, armchair and adequate furnishings, many with a very handy little kitchen. Some rooms have lovely large balconies but others are very small and only just accommodate a table and two chairs. Nice bathroom with twin wash basins. The rooms and public areas are all immaculately clean.
The dining room is very pleasant, breakfasts are pretty standard, lunches and snacks available at pool bar. Evening meals are just average, there seems to be a problem keeping food hot, even when it is freshly served. The salads and desserts are good though, and the hotel has a good and reasonably priced wine list.
The small bar is usually very quiet but has a good range of drinks available, nice for a coffee and liqueur, or a last drink before bed.
There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in the area and generally we find everything quite cheap compared to the rest of Europe.
The hotel has a very pleasant garden area split into two parts overlooking the beach, and a small but adequate swimming pool. Sunbeds are nicely spaced and there is a 'no reservation' policy which is upheld by the staff for the most part.
There is a beautiful wide, clean sandy beach accessed from the gardens by 50+ steps.
We have stayed at the Casino hotel next door but personally prefer the Oriental as it is smaller and more peaceful.

Stayed here in May 2014, hotel was okay but the layout was odd for restaurant and pool area, breakfast was adequate as was the pool area. Reception area is poor, no where to sit and relax with the bar area off track to reception. The staff were fantastic and it wasn't too much trouble to change a camp bed to a divan as there were three adults in one room and the camp bed was not adequate for an adult. It's a great location with fab views, the room was good, plenty of room and a bonus of having a kitchen area with fridge to store refreshments.
Once again the drinks and food are very pricey 2.5e for soft drink, I would suggest lowering the prices to keep residents at the hotel. We ate out for lunch and evening meals the Rocha Mar opposite the hotel was superb for lunchtime snacks. I am comparing the Oriental Hotel to Algarve Casino where we stayed in October 2013 and would definitely go back there given the choice between the two ,having said that it is a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: A sea view is a must!

Just returned from a weeks holiday in this hotel, would defiantly book again this hotel has exceptionally polite friendly and staff. Our room was very spacious with the most comfortable bed with high quality linen.
Breakfast was very good.
The hotel is cleaned to a very high standard and nothing is too much trouble, if you have an issue they will sort it out.
Great clean beach.
The resort is defiantly made up of 2 halves, the better being near this hotel.

The hotel is very well located close to the beach and walking distance to many shops.
The staff is friendly and helpful and it is a beautiful hotel. The shower is excellent.
I however rate the hotel on what I expected when making my reservation as opposed to what I actually received.
I booked a "Superior Double Room with Sea View" but the room is neither superior nor has it a sea-view. When checking in, the fine print that states that the balcony has a side sea-view was pointed out to us. There is a side sea view from the balcony but the room itself offers no sea view at all. Had I known this I would not have chosen this hotel.
The room is advertised as having a large balcony but it turned out to be no more that 2 square meters which was in the shade for most of the day and not what was advertised.
No coffee, sugar or milk is provided in the room and the bar fridge is empty.
WiFi is advertised as working anywhere in the hotel. The fact is that there is never a reception in your room but only at the reception desk. You are provided a code for 1 device only and every-time you lose the signal you need to log-in again. The WiFi reception is very slow, but you can buy a fast connection for €10 per day. Interesting the coffee shop across the road offers free WiFi which works quite fast.
Room is advertised as including a safe but you need to collect a lock from reception which is charged at €3 per day or in my case €21 for the 7 day stay.
Breakfast is the same everyday. The only change is that melon and pineapple and preprepared omelet and baked eggs are alternated. It is pretty mediocre and at the end of the week you really don't feel like having any of it.
The hotel has access to the beach but do not provide any beach towels nor are there bathrobes in the bedrooms, which I would have expected from a 4 star hotel.
If you want to visit the beach you will pay €8 per day for two chairs and an umbrella.
The hotel does state that they don't have any parking and this really is a problem. There are only 10 parking bays in the street, 3 of which are permanently occupied by shops from across the road. If you are traveling by car you will have a parking problem and should be prepared to park your car somewhere on a pavement.

When making my booking I relied on information provided on the website in good faith and am disappointed that a hotel in such a prime location must rely on misrepresentation to get my booking.
I will not be back to this hotel and will definitely not recommend it, even to my worst enemy.

This hotel is in an excellent location, at the quiet end of the beach. Staff all very friendly, only thing is that the sofa bed was not in working order, they did however leave another foldable single bed so I doubled up the mattresses and it was very comfortable and let my teenage twins share the king size bed. We had the room on the 3rd floor with a kitchenette and everything we needed was there. Bathroom was great, double basins, (powerful) shower over bath. Another good thing was two tv's with good choice of english/american channels, when it was too hot to be out.
Varied choice of breakfast: cereals, yogurt, fruits and juices, teas, breads, beans, bacon, eggs, european style breakfast too.
Couple of nights had an odd smell from outside, perhaps sewage, but we closed windows and turned the air con on, that seemed to sort it and by morning had forgotten to mention to staff.
We went out for meals every night as found the hotel restaurant quite expensive for what they were serving.
