Its a nice hotel but definitely not 4 star. The only meals we had there was breakfast & that was nice. The air conditioning only blew out warm air. My biggest complaint was the so called "free Wi-Fi". This is limited to barely enough to open an email. No utube, Facebook & definitely no Netflix. I'd except that if that is all they could get but no. They offered regular wifi speeds for something stupid like €5 per hour. This is not treating the guests to 4 star service.

Just returned from a ten day stay in hotel oriental and was hugely disappointed with the standard of my room. I believe the hotel was built in 1989 and virtually nothing in the room had been updated since - the bathroom suite and tiles were a dirty cream colour and wouldn't be out of place in 1970. The flimsy shower filled the bath with water as the drainage wasn't adequate and it has been years since I have seen a toilet brush in a 4* hotel room - this one had pieces of excrement on it when we first inspected the room. The room had a 'kitchenette' area reminiscent of my childhood self catering holidays in much poorer standard accommodation. The 'hob' was ancient and way out of place in a modern hotel. Both the (originally white) extractor fan and refrigerator had turned a dark cream colour - but - had actually been painted over white to make them look better!!! Many other fixtures and fittings around the room were shoddily put together and the dividing walls on the balcony were damaged and peeling away.
On raising my concerns to the gentleman on the reception desk he was very dismissive saying there was nothing he could do apart from place us in another room of an equal standard - we looked and they really were no better! What was more infuriating was his surly attitude, shrugging his shoulders and laughing! When I asked to see his superior, who I believe to be the house manager that day (12/8/14) he was equally dismissive. When I tried to raise my points with him he started actually talking over me and at one point started 'eyeballing' me which I thought was disgraceful considering I was a paying customer who had forked out nearly £2,000 in peak season to stay in his hotel for a few days.
In the end, as there was no better option, we stayed in the room and made do with it. Apparently the hotel is in the process of refurbishing rooms to a modern standard - we did see one of these and would have been very happy with it but only about 40% of the rooms are of this standard. This is not made clear by the hotel marketing or Jet2 who both happily classify it as 4*.
In fairness to the hotel, and trying to be as balanced as possible, there are some lovely features such as the pool area, sunbed garden and restaurant. The cleaning staff were always polite and the girl offering snacks around the pool was extremely pleasant.
If you are considering this hotel please make sure you know the type of room you are getting as we paid a 4* price for a barely 3* room. I am not someone who is a serial complainer but I've stayed in enough rooms from hostels to 5* and I know the expectations of each. Unless you are getting a refurbished room - don't bother with the Hotel Oriental or (the minority of) their arrogant staff! If only around 40% of your rooms are of a standard that a modern traveller would expect you cannot be considered a 4* hotel.
Praia De Rocha is a fun place - just pick a different hotel.

Room Tip: You need to make sure you have a refurbished room otherwise you will be hugely disappointed!

Everything about the hotel and Praia de rocha was perfect, the staff couldnt do enough for you from the day we arrived till the day we left. Fantastic sea view, great food at dinner and breakfast, could not find fault anywhere will be going back there for certain.

Room Tip: All rooms have a garden or sea view but if you can get one the sea view rooms are better.

Ideal location for access to the beach and the main strip with bars and restaurants. Nice room with great view. Decent breakfast. Very pleasant staff but slow poolside service, surely can't take that long to make a sandwich and a beer when there is nobody else ordering ahead of you.

Lovely hotel, clean and spacious rooms with great sea views. BUT beware if going in July/August!!! There is a disco at the end of the beach which is VERY loud and kept us awake most nights. The nights it wasn't on were lovely and quiet. This certainly spoilt our experience of this hotel, which is a shame because it's lovely but would not return because of this.

Room Tip: Superior room with sea view

Good location, marvellous views
Large rooms. The standard rooms need to be refurbisched though.
The staff is very friendly, especially the people working in the bar. My special thanks to Claudia, who looked after my jacket and my scarf I was forgotten in the bar the night before.
Breakfast was average.
The staff at the reception did not always provided the right information (f.e. concerning the bus timetables)

Location of hotel was good, the room was just recently refurbished therefore it was very clean. Staff were friendly but unfortunately service was very slow be prepared to wait for food/drink orders. The safe in the room was €3 per day, towels were €1.50 per day & a bucket of ice was €3 or €5 if delivered to your room. There was limited sun beds at the pool side (which you were not allowed to leave your towel on when in for breakfast) it was very quiet a little music would have been nice throughout the day. The hotel had a lovely bar but no one used it probably because the cost of beverages was to dear.

Room Tip: A room with a sea view & one that just has been refurbished.
