“Great Value For Money, Gorgeous Resort!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2012

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 7 nights, 23 - 30 June. It was our first holiday together abroad, we arrived at the hotel and were very surprised at standard of it considering how little we paid. Our room was a nice size, on the 4th floor with a side-sea view. The room itself and the bathroom were very clean, it had a mini bar stocked with water, soft drinks and beer, priced upto 1.20, and a tv with a couple of English channels. We weren't really looking forward to the breakfast after reading the reviews on here, so we kind of knew what to expect, the cereal was served with lukewarm milk and the bacon & scrambled egg isn't great, although the coffee was really nice. But it has to be said this is the ONLY bad thing I can say about this hotel! There is a safe in the room costing 7.50 with a 15 euro returnable deposit. We ate out the most of the time at many of the restaurants in and around the 'strip' with 3 course meals starting at around 7 euro's. We recommend Taj Palace Indian Restaurant in the evening, and Irelands Eye for breakfast. Safari Restaurant was also very nice with gorgeous views over the beach. Praia Da Rocha itself is really nice with probably the best beach I have ever been to, the strip isn't too big, or too hectic with a family atmosphere, there is a few bars which are open till about 4am if your up for the party though :) the only bad thing we can say about the strip itself is all the gypsies offering us hash, I'm not sure if this was just because we are young or they do it to everybody. We got the bus from near the hotel to Alburfeira for 4.50 which took about 45 minutes. All in all we had an amazing holiday in an great hotel in a lovely place and would recommend Luar to anybody.

Room Tip: Recommend a sea view as the other rooms face a busy road

Stayed 4-10th June 12 - Initially not looking forward to this hotel as it was a change from the hotel I booked, however it turned out to be an excellent move!! I was travelling with my 12 year old girl and a little nevous about us being alone, the hotel was located just on the edge of the 'strip' and was safe for us to walk home every night. Great choice of restaraunts and prices, staff do mither you at each one to come in but just be firm and say no thanks! best tip - tell them you have eaten in hotel!
The hotel overlooks the beach which is stunning but the pool was also a good choice- clean not overcrowed, plenty sunbeds available.
The breakfast was fine- basic breads cheese meat but there is scrambled egg and bacon which was good.
The hotel was clean- immaculate in fact, freshly made beds daily, clean towels alternate days, 24 hour reception and all the staff were helpful.
yes, the decor is a little dated but who cares? we had a room overlooking main road which was noisy if you are a light sleeper and the fridge in the room does hum all night, i would say pay a little more and book a pool/beach view room.
Recommended places to eat... Taffys bar and grill very friendly and good food. Concorde- extremely nice greeter to welcome you and chat - 3 courses 8.90 euros
My daughter and I couldn't have had a better holiday and thats saying something with a 12 yr old in tow!!!
Praia da Rocha is a beautiful place!!
If you fancy shopping when you are there Aqua cente in Portamao is great, 5 euros in taxi- primark, mango, h&m etc

Room Tip: pool side rooms!

We are a couple in our Twenty's, just come back from a week's stay at 'Hotel Luar' Praia da Rocha. The hotel is situated right next to the beach and is right on the 'main strip' so its Ideal..!! Walk away from a range of great restaurants+nightlife! (We recommend 'Cafe Del Mar' food is amazing!!) The hotel itself is Spotlessly Clean and very spacious! The staff were very friendly + helpful. Rooms were cleaned with fresh towels replaced everyday. (No hairdryer or coffee making facilities). Breakfast is basic...Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Cereals, Toast, Hot+Cold drinks. Which was fine for us! Pool was nice; bigger then we thought! Pool + beds cleaned everyday. Hotel bar open from 10am-1am with great food serving throughout!....The only negative comment we can make about the hotel was that it was dated. It hasn't been modernised in many years! So ba from the retro flowery curtains, dark wooden doors+furniture it was Excellent! Would defiantly go back and are planning our next trip soon!

We just returned from a ten day break in Hotel Luar. First impression was good, the reception area is nice, however the guy who checked us in was a little strange, he wasnt very welcoming but throughout our stay we began to realise he was like this with everyone, not exactly a good match for the job but all the other reception staff were lovely, especially the young girl & older lady. Anyway when we went to our room we were a little disappointed, we expected a higher standard but it was pretty dated. The fridge hummed constantly & we decided not to take an iron with us presuming there would be one available at the hotel but when I phoned down to reception for an iron to be sent up they said it was hotel policy that there were no irons allowed in the hotel, mad or what!! So our only option was to leave the clothes we needed ironed out on our bed & the cleaners would take them & return them pressed 24 hours later......not very convenient but we just accepted it. On the plus side, the hotel felt very safe & was very quiet. The cleaners were around every day to clean our room & we had fresh towels every day also. The pool area is fab, even though we spent most of our time on the GORGEOUS beach we spent some time at the pool area & it was really nice, the pool itself is a really decent size & it wasnt busy & for people travelling with kids it was great as there was a kiddies pool & a mushroom waterfall type thingy.

Breakfast wasnt a success for us, we went down the first morning & it was very busy, it was about 10a.m, breakfast was served until 10.30a.m. First of all there was a disappointing choice, rolls, ham, cheese, scrambled egg & cereal (with a jug of warm milk which had been sitting out all morning to accompany it). We found it hard to find somewhere to sit that morning but we saw a big empty table so we walked over to sit down, then one of the waiting staff started shouting at us telling us not to sit there that those seats were for the footballers who were staying there, we were mortified because everyone stared at us & we were furious as we felt we paid the same bloody price as the footballers so why should be not get treated the same way as them!! Needless to say we didnt come down for breakfast any other morning, even if we hadnt been shouted at we wouldnt have as the food was very disappointing.

All in all, we felt safe & the hotel was clean but I wouldnt class it as a 4 star!

Just returned from hotel Luar in praia da rocha last week. Made the decision of what hotel based on these reviews and so glad we did. Hotel Luar is in the perfect position literally out the back of the hotel is the beach and to the right is the beginning of the strip. The rooms were very clean and sizable. Try and get a room on the right hand size facing outwards is the rooms facing inwards look at each other. Free wifi in lobby. Breakfast was grand didn't expect much from the reviews but if all u need is toast and coffee ur sorted. Also a choice of cereals and meats and cheese. The pool area and gardens were lovely and well kept. We never had a problem getting a sunbed at anytime but then perhaps we were a bit out of season. But with the beach so close it doesn't matter!Again literally outside the hotel and down stairs to the beach. Perfect!! Also the first restaurant you come to called bulli and pupe (I think) is delicious and very good value!! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The only negative was the beds are very hard and we had trouble sleeping but that comes with the territory I guess and not a big deal!! All in all it was great! U get more than what u pay for really!!
