“Stunning Location but could do with some TLC”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

A stunning location within yards of the beach and beach bars at Praia Do Vau. The apartment overlooked the sea and had sun almost all day.

The rooms were spacious and clean and there were adequate cooking facilities if required. The staff were friendly and always helpful

The beds however could do with being replaced as with the TV.

The Spa was good but all bathers have to wear a bathing cap which can be purchased for 4 Euros from staff at the Spa when you can find them.

The pool bar was closed when we were there but looked a reasonable size beside an excellent outdoor pool.

All in all great value for money.

We stayed from 7 Oct - 24 Oct 13. We expected a 4 star hotel as advertised. It is nothing like as comfortable as we expected. It was built in the 70s and has not been refurbished since. Very shabby. Mostly timeshare apartments, not hotel rooms. Uncomfortable beds, thin towels, useless hairdryer, elderly tv, many cracked floor tiles. No WIFI in rooms, rickety beds, the list goes on. We paid quite a lot of money for this holiday as we thought it would be a treat for us, very disappointing. If you want to use the indoor pool, gym or sauna you must pay. Surely a 4 star hotel has these facilities included for their guests?
The beaches are superb and the weather great so our holiday wasn't a total bust but we shall never recommend or return to this hotel.

Set above a nice beach, this apartment complex is next to the main road and close to plenty of restaurants and shops. You can go for nice long walks or take a taxi for trips to Alvor. The apartments are clean and comfortable and the staff are helpful. The pools are nice for when the beach gets a bit too hot.
There is a small shop on the complex, but there was a female working there who seemed to have no great affinity for kids; they just wanted to look around and pick out sweets, but she seemed to have no patients with them (these are well-behaved girls age 10 to 13). In any case, we didn't shop there after our first visit. There are plenty of better shops with nicer staff nearby for buying all your beach inflatables and gifts.
There is a small area with books left by other guests, so if you bring a holiday paperback, leave it there and pick out another one. Good idea.

We were recommended this resort by our travel agent and were not disappointed at all. There were four of us traveling together and our 2 bedroom suite gave each couple their own bathroom as well as their own areas to lounge around if we wanted to. The beds were a little hard (as they are in most of Portugal) but that was the only complaint. The beach was amazing and the location is definitely one that we will return to in a heart beat.

We are just home from a fantastic week stay at Jardim do Vau...what a lovely place for a great holiday. The accommodation was spacious and spotlessly clean. The beds were a little firm for our liking but thats down to personal choice. The road noise was also a little disturbing late at night, but we had been given a great 2 bedroom apartment in B Block with a nice sea view, which made up for it. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. It was our first trip to the Algarve and we loved the area. We will return and this place is top of my list for accommodation.

There is a great pool area with a nice snackbar (not expensive). However, people still lay towels on sunbeds by the pool and then disappeared for several hours which I think is very selfish. I think the attendants should remove towels on beds which are obviously not being used. The pool attendant did a good job at speaking to kids that became a little too rowdy in their excitement, which was good to see, and maintained a nice family atmosphere.

The staff at the Jardim do Vau couldn't do enough for us and were very friendly and always smiling. Happy staff make happy holiday makers! They even took care of our motorway tolls for us.
The small onsite shop has lovely croissant and bread rolls but you need to be up early (8.30 latest) to get some...they are soon gone! We didnt need to visit the supermarket all week, although there is one closeby in Portimao.

If your budget allows i would recommend hiring a car as this gives you easy access to the restaurants and beaches etc along the coast. We had some very nice meals out. The chinese restaurant on the strip in Praia de Rocha was fantastic! I think Alvor has more restaurants than anything else and is a nice place to visit.

I would recommend this place to my friends and family, and would definitely return. Oh and the weather in August was awesome!!

Visited these apts for 2 weeks in July with our 2 teenage kids. Overall they are fab. couldnt really fault them. the biggest drawback for us was the outdoor pool. It was 8ft deep down to 5ft but you were out of your depth within one step so completely no good if you couldnt swim which my husband cant. It took away from our holiday. Nobody else mentioned this in other reviews and we would not have booked if we had known. Also you are not allowed play any ball games in the pool or use any inflatables in either the big pool or kiddies pool.

We went to the beach every day instead as we couldnt use the pool. Sun beds down there were 10euro a pair for a full day and 7euro a pair for half day, so we had to spend quite a bit on beds but fab breeze at beach so worth it really.

Big plus also you dont need to bring towels. You can give a deposit of 10euro per towel and you will be refunded completely when you return towels. and they can be changed in the laundry twice a week for clean towels. This was never mentioned either in previous reviews.

Nicest beach I was ever on. You can walk the complete way into Praia de Rocha which has a stunning beach complete with sports section ie. basketball court, volleyball nets, soccer nets etc.

If you like walking this location is ideal. Fab cliff walk to the right of the apts, well worth walking it.

Eating out - Vagabond restaurant in Alvor by far the best, Il Timone great for takeaways and very good for sit down meal, but not many people in there which is just out the beach gate and turn left. Most of the restaurants are fab anyway.

If you want a sea view def ask for floor 3 or 4. we were on 2 but didnt have view. we didnt care really.

Kids entertainment - Table tennis, pool table in bar and also at pool bar. Fab full size snooker table inside with fab leather seating. very classy indeed. My son loved it. Real treat.

Overall would recommend these apts but pool a big problem for us.

Room Tip: If you want a sea view, ask for floor 3 or 4.

This review is based on what i expect and was told, and I travelled for 3 weeks returning July 23rd with 3 children aged 17, 12 and 9. This is sold as a 4 star property, and it may just about be a 4 star place. Don't judge the place on your first impression from the outside, It looks a little disappointing when you first look at the place, but it is fine. A big open reception area will be inside. The reception staff are excellent and very efficient.
In July, there were 2 main groups, from Germany who stay half board and Irish who are self catering. There are other nationalities with some English and Dutch. The German people stayed very much to themselves, and the Irish did mix well together. We stayed in a 3 bed penthouse which they called it, a penthouse is one with a roof terrace which you would never use. The rooms are bright and clean, beds ok (a little hard though). I did look at the 2 beds and one bed when I was there and they are all quite spacious.. the pull out beds look fine and reception will give you extra mattresses if you ask. There are 3 blocks, but be warned that the block in front of the pool is the oldest and does not have air conditioning. A word of warning, the balconies in all the properties are not safe for climbing age kids, very easy to jump up onto and was my first impression. you could lock the balcony doors, but that lock is easy enough to open.. some places have good views tough..
The hotel is very well located with great access to the beach... its beautiful.... the pool is very well kept, no messing at the pools, they don't allow blow ups in the pool which is great. There is always someone looking on, and generally you will get a pool side bed ok as so many people go to the beach.. again, the place is kept very clean.. the indoor pool looks lovely, very big.. the gym is poor but who goes to a gym on holidays.. always empty.. nice full sized snooker table and room..
Overall, the hotel needs a little updating but I found it fine.. The bar downstairs needs a good overhaul and Chiko, the bar man can be painful to listen to. A lot of the Irish met up there with their kids at night for a chat. I found the people there lovely.. because it is a little more expensive, there are no rough adults or kids, no tattoo heads.. there was nice mix of people..Rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels... on towels, you pay 10 euro to rent your towel which is given back to you at the end. I heard a number of German guests complaining at reception about this and some were incredibly rude and arrogant, to the point where I told one of them where i told one of them where to go as she was so rude to the girl on reception. If you want a towel, you pay and you get your money back at the end.
I really liked this place, you can walk into Praia De Rocha in about 10 minutes and 5 euro taxi to Alvor where the restaurants are fantastic. I didn't eat in the hotel.. When i was there I looked at the Pestana group of hotels up the road which is 5 star.. Fantastic place, more modern, better facilities, nicer rooms but would not like to stay there. No atmosphere, no fun at the pool, very expensive. I thought Jardim had it all and we probably will go back again next year. The kids all met people there which made life easy. There is no night time entertainment though.. a lot of the guest had been going there for many years which is a good sign.. it just depends on what you want, if you are looking for a relaxing place, nice people, clean facilities, if you't mind it being a little dated then you won't get much better.. no place is perfect just be careful with kids aged up to 5 or so

Room Tip: rooms at the pool have no airconditioning.. all rooms would be quiet but if you like a good lie in...
