“Not a bad place to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

Just returned from the Vila Rosa, not a bad place.
Its located about a 10 minute walk from the main strip, so not noisy at night.
We were in block 4, a little dated but very clean and comfortable. some of the smaller blocks look to be either newer or been refurbished? Only minor problem was the air conditioning, it was a portable unit, so we had to leave the balcony door open for the pipe to exhaust, which sort of defeats the object. Not too hot at night, as I said minor problem.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Pool area clean, a paved area and large grassy area with umbrellas, could have done with a few more sunbeds though. The snack bar was reasonably priced with good service.
Gardens tidy and well maintained.
The resort itself looks a little shabby away from the front. On the front are numerous bars and restaurants all vying for trade, so plenty of choices. At night half the strip is pedestrianized.
Good beaches.
It may be worth paying 7 Euros to jump in a taxi up to Alvor, the next resort, a smaller more intimate place, a different experience to Praia da Rocha.
All in all, the Vila Rosa, a good base, with no probs.

We enjoyed 8 nights in Vila Rosa at the end of July. There were 7 of us on a family holiday, we had 2x 1 bedroom apartments and 1x studio apartment. The 1 bedroom apartments were really spacious and very well maintained. The studio apartment was much smaller but still an ideal size for a couple with self catering amenities, plus they are part of the main hotel and many overlook the pool so they include a nice view.

The housekeeping service was excellent, fresh towels/sheets etc available everyday. 2 pool areas also very well kept, although we stayed at the larger pool as we had children and there was a kiddy pool. The smaller pool area also has its own bar so is ideal for adults who do not want to spend their day with children!

The breakfast isn't great, but its a typical continental breakfast and is worth 7 euro per adult (bacon, sausages, eggs, breads, cheese, beans, ham, tea/coffee/juices). The food at the pool bar is also very reasonable, pizzas/toasties/burgers etc.

The hotel is about 10 minute walk from the beach, make sure to get a map of the hotel grounds as the quickest route isn't always from the main entrance (typically it's past the smaller pool and down a set of steps out a side entrance.) Also 5-10 mins from main strip, which is a nice mix of pubs and restaurants. We enjoyed a few nights out as couples in pubs/clubs, good nightlife options. There are also pubs/restaurants that are good for bringing children with shows etc. The hotel has entertainment almost every-night also (July), clowns/parrots/karaoke etc.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, the location is excellent, it has a really nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff.

Stayed here for 12 days arrived at 11am so tired up all night as we arrived there at 6.30am flight and had no sleep the night before. Appartments not ready till after 2pm disopointed with that as we were so tired. We were in block 4 which I was not impressed with. No view only into more apartments. I had booked these appartments neary 10 months in advance and taught I would get better and requested pool view but seeminly it makes no difference and emailed them personally. The apartment was basic spacious and clean. The maids came every day they were so nice. The people that work there are so nice and courteous and very helpful. Two pools we went to the quiet one which suited me but was with three teenagers which they found the appartments too quiet for them. No irish I think were at our pool a lot of english and Portuguese. We were about 10 to15 minute walk to Praia de rosha uphill some people especially older people would find it a bit difficult. Food was adequate at bar did not try restraunt we went self catering, went for tea and toast one morning at breakfast and was charged 7 euro each for just that, I was discusted at that as I was not booked in for b&b and the waitress said she had to charge breakfast rate. The beech is fabelous there but a bit of a trek. The place itself is very well maintained. There seemed to be entertainment for kids there for peek season dix not attend as we had teenagers. Barbeque on a friday night did not attend that eighter. Overall a lovely place but a little too far from the night life. Its only about a 15 minute taxi drive from the lovely senic Alvor, which had a lovely restraunt calked the bouganvilla restraunt steak on a stone fab. Beech lovely a quaint little village. The taxis were cheap, drivers lovely very helpful. Taxis scarce outside aqua shopping center great for shopping spent 6 evenings there added bonus sales on. Balconys forone bedroom apartm3nts are long but narrow, no air conditionin them hired out a fan 2.50 per night worth it. Up grade if posdible

This is our fourth time staying in Praia Da Rocha and we are planning on going back next year again. We had not stayed in Vila Rosa before but we would go back. We stayed half board but would not go back half board!! It would definitely be on a self catering basis. The food and lack of entertainment are the two items that let this hotel down. We were served cold breakfast most mornings with very little choice of food. The dinner was better because you could choose from the menu but be prepared to wait for your food, and you may need to repeat your order a few times as the dinners come out without your sides etc a lot of the time. Although we stayed the last week in June 1st week in July and technically its not high season we still expected to see entertainment for the kids as the hotel did advertise this when booking. Thats the negatives out of the way... On the positive side, our room was very spacious, clean and we had all we needed eg fridge freezer kettle, microwave, toaster, iron, ironing board, hangers for clothes, clean towels and beds every day. The cleaners came in every day and the apartment was kept very well. You are only a five minute walk from the main strip and beach and the local spar is very reasonable which is just across the bridge. The pool area is great but it would need cleaned a bit more regular as it didnt seem to be cleaned every day. All in all we had a great time, met some lovely people and we are planing to go back next year SELF CATERING.

The staff are excellent, room service is brilliant, food was great and not expensive. The grounds are quite spacious and extremely well maintained. There is a main pool area with kids pool, but it also has a smaller adults pool which is quieter and would suit those without kids. The walk to the beach is fine for older kids and adults but we had a 3 yr old and it was a struggle for him. The entertainment is limited and basic. In fact very few people seem to stay around in the evening.

Room Tip: We were located in a terraced house at the back of the complex which was very quiet and had its own...

Stayed for 6 nights in late June in superior apartment on ground level.
Apartment clean and tidy with everything required and cleaned every day with linen change every two days.
As we were in the ground floor we had a small garden space with 2 loungers, parasol and table with 4 chairs. Never used the loungers as we were beside the small pool which was lovely to sit round and was generally quieter than the main pool.
Had a thoroughly relaxing time and spent more time by the pool than we intended. Only 15 mins walk to the beach but as the Vila Rosa was so nice often stayed by the small pool which usually gets a cooling breeze during the afternoon.
First time in Portugal and would go back to Vila Rosa.

Stayed here for a week in June 2013 on a B&B basis. Well worth the extra few quid for breakfast ! The Apartment was huge and spotless, everything that was needed was in it i.e. Kettle, Toaster Iron/Ironing Board etc. ( at no extra charge) Apt cleaned every day. Shower didn't look great but great power from it! Pool area was very spacious with kiddies pool and adult pool. A seperate quieter pool is also on the grounds which was great for hangover days (most days) as we left the kids at home. Bar/Restaurant at poolside was nice with a very friendly barman called Elias who couldn't do enough for us. The other bar staff weren't so nice. Reception staff very helpful and very friendly. It's about a 10 minute walk from the strip which is perfect or €3.90 - €5 in a taxi ! The beaches are really nice and for my first trip to Portugal I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the area and overall friendliness of the locals. I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone. If travelling with kids (which I intend to do next time) I would look for a ground floor apt. Otherwise you are lifting buggies etc. up a lot of steps! Definitely returning with the kids in the next few years!
