The location of the hotel is superb - it's in the heart of the old town, a short walk from the beach and just a couple of streets away from all the restaurants, bars and shops. Although there is no parking at the hotel itself (you have to leave your car on the seafront), we were able to drive to the door of the hotel to drop our bags off on arrival, which saved us a walk with our luggage.
Our room - although possibly one of the smallest hotel rooms we've ever stayed in - was decorated very nicely in keeping with the fairytale theme. We found we had ample storage space (we do travel pretty light, though!) and the bed was very comfortable. As we were travelling as a couple, we also weren’t bothered by the lack of a “proper” bathroom: the toilet was in a little cubicle separated from the main room by a sliding door and the shower opened straight into the room. If friends were sharing the room, this lack of privacy could be a real problem, though. The central courtyard was very pretty and clearly well-cared for, and the rooftop terrace with its jacuzzi, sunbeds and seating area was a real bonus - a great place to relax.
Although the street on which the hotel is located was very quiet by day, we made the mistake of keeping the window open on the first night and got woken by quite a bit of noise at about 4am when the bars closed. Shutting the window and turning on the air conditioning pretty much solved the problem, although we could still hear a bit of noise from the street. We were there in peak season, so maybe this isn’t a problem all year round.
We never made it to breakfast so can’t comment on the choice or quality. We also didn’t have too much to do with the hotel staff – mainly because we were perfectly happy with everything but also because their English is limited and our Spanish was very basic. They seemed pleasant enough, though.
Overall, we loved Conil de la Frontera and very much enjoyed our stay at La Princesa y el Guisante. We’d definitely consider booking again, should we ever decide to return to Conil.
