“suited me perfect and a great price”
Reviewed 8 September 2011

I only stayed here the one night whilst waiting for friends to arrive. It was small and friendly, the lady at reception was very helpful, the room was basic and clean but served its purpose. The continental breakfast in the morning was lovely and the location in the centre of san pedro was fantastic. Its by no means somewhere id stay for more than a few days but for the one night it was perfect and id have no hesitation in staying there again if i should ever go back to san pedro

Sorry to say that but reading the last reviews feels like i've been in a different hotel...First of all it is far away from the beach, aproximately 1 km 15 min to walk which is pretty much on summertime...The beach is calm and beutifull but full of stones. In the area there is no restaurant which i can say that had a decent menu.It is located 13 km from Marbella centrum and it is totally useless to take a local transport (been waiting for a bus one hour and didnt show up in the end) so your solution is a taxi which costs 14 euros.
In the expedia advertisement it was written that you have a view to the sea from the balcony.Well...Thats just not true.At the opposit of the balcony there is just one horrible building which looked like it came out from a poor neighbourhood of Mexico. You can hear everything that is going on on your floor with details.
As much as you understad i dont recomment this hotel.

Our second time of visiting Dona Catalina. Great central location, clean comfortable rooms although a little "corporate" maybe but excellent value for money. Ian remembered us from our previous visit last year and even discounted our room as we were not offered a parking voucher last time. He even remembered the restaurant we went to (more than I did!).

The restaurant we went to this time is DEFINITELY worth seeking out. Authentic Spanish bodega with the not-so authentic name of Bar Waikiki. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time, perfectly cooked and accompanied by griddled FRESH vegetables. Wonderful. The owner was very friendly and even joined us in an excellent Pedro Jimenez. It's just a short walk from the hotel in

the hotel is nothing special, but its clean and comfortable, and its quite far from the beach, but a cheap taxi ride or a pleasant walk away.

Something that makes this low budget hotel excell from anything else in its catagory, is the adorable, friendly, multi lingual, helpful front of house representative called IAN

The Hotel Dona Catalina is in the very centre of San Pedro and if that is where you want to stay you should consider this hotel........but that is the only reason
A double room was 55 euro a night...then add on 12 euro a night for parking (that is including their 33% discount ! ! ) and this hotel represents really rotten value for money even though parking is charged for in most places in the area.
The rooms are smallish and stuffy although the aircon did work. The breakfast was continental...but without cold meat or eggs....(I dont know if there is a name for that sort of breakfast....toast maybe ?) This was not good......I forgot...there were apples too

We were booked in for 4 nights and they asked us to pay the total upfront because they had had trouble with guests running off.
Fortunately they had no problem refunding us for the next 3 nights when we changed to the four star Hotel Barcelo about five minutes away ....which was the same price because we had a friend with a parking space nearby !
Calling The Hotel Dona Catalina a 3 star and the Hotel Barcelo a 4 star !!!!! you cant imagine the difference......who is regulating the star system ?
I have nothing really bad to say about the Hotel Dona Catalina, it seemed clean etc. But it seriously does not feel like a hotel ( certainly not three stars) more like a good hostel....and for that reason we left after one night and would have left sooner if we could .
If you have a car you can do much better than this .......renting a two bedroom apartment from one of the holiday lettings companies would have cost the same even for four nights and many of the other hotels nearby might seem more expensive but its worth it.
.
My advice is to look elsewhere.

This is a great little straightforward 3 star hotel. We stayed for 4 days with 2 young children and had a triple room with extra cot as we were attending a wedding nearby. The room was spacious and well laid out and there was air-conditioning. It was a bit noisy from the nearby road, but only if we forgot to close the shutters at night. What makes this place stand out is the staff who were all super-friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is situated centrally in San Pedro with its laid-back atmosphere and all the restaurants are right on the doorstep. The breakfast was simple, but more than adequate. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its friendly staff and location. The car parking is also no problem so long as you remember to get the ticket stamped for the discount.
