“Quaint Spanish Village Hotel”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

Stayed at the Hi Pueblo for 1 week 8th October 2013. arrived after a long trip from Malaga airport at 10.30pm, too late for evening meal but we were directed to the restaurant where a covered salad was waiting for us, very much appreciated!
The room was very nice, 4 beds in all, when there was just the two of us, plenty of space.
Meals were ok there was always something that we liked, although the food was never hot,
we used the microwave to heat it up! every morning I looked forward to fried eggs with my breakfast but they had always been taken and the chef did put more out but it was when everyone had finished! Yes the hotel catered 90% for the French but they were a quiet bunch
and everyone got on alright. The entertainment in the evening, which was the staff, was
always in French and did go on a bit so we went next door to the Cortijo Blanco hotel and watched theirs. we have stayed their before and knew their entertainment was always good,
they had a group on 3 times and the atmosphere is great.
The weather was fantastic for this time of year, hot and no rain all week!
For anyone staying at the Hi Pueblo I would say it's set in extremely pretty surroundings, like a Spanish village and the building is only two storey, so very quiet. The pool is very large and there is a little garden with sunbeds. My only complaint is that after your evening meal there is nothing to do before the entertainment. The lounge was very old fashioned and there was
no where to have a drink and relax, the drinks were so watered down I had to order a double to taste anything. you couldn't have a proper cup of coffee only one from the machine in a plastic cup. we sat in the bar on high stools or went next door to the Cortijo and had a coffee there.
All in all we had a lovely holiday at the Hi Pueblo but it needs modernising in the way they have
done the Cortijo Blanco next door.

Room Tip: choose a room away from the pool as all the entertainment is there and its noisy!

Reviewed 20 October 2013

My husband and I stayed here for a 5 night break 13th-18th Oct, the hotel closed for winter on the evening of the day we left. We used TripAdvisor reviews to help us to make our hotel choice so I thought it only right that we contribute in the same way.

This isn't an 'all singing, all dancing' high frills kind of 'All Inclusive' hotel (not a bad thing in my opinion), in fact, not all guests are All Inclusive as we were. I would describe the hotel as simple and modest with a bit of a traditional feel and this suited us well. The 'village style' hotel layout was charming and very attractive. Some of the decor has a traditional look, some is a little dated (our room furnishings) but again, this didn't matter at all to us, none of it was unattractive and I liked the cosy feel of our room and general surroundings. More important than the look of the room, it was very clean and very spacious (we requested a courtyard view room which we were given) and I presume it must have been a 'family room' with having two sets of twin beds. It had a tiny balcony overlooking the main courtyard, not big enough to sit out on, in fact, it had no table or chairs, but you could step out onto the balcony to have a look around. I noticed other rooms in different areas had larger balconies/terraces with furniture but presume the room layout inside may also be different, maybe even smaller. Bathroom also a decent size, clean, functional and with a decent shower. The only negative point about our room was that the beds were incredibly uncomfortable (I tried all four to pick the best of the bunch but all were equally bad!). Every spring could be felt in the mattresses but we found thick blankets in our wardrobe so decided to fold them double and lay them under our bottom sheets to act as 'mattress toppers'......the beds were then perfectly okay and we got a decent nights sleep on them.

it is true that there are predominantly French guests at the hotel, particularly evident with the entertainment and in the restaurant. Some but not all of the food was clearly catering for their taste, however, there were always choices and the food was generally nice though not very warm. Being honest, it wasn't the best choice or quality that I have experienced in other comparable hotels but I would certainly rate it as at least average-good and really I think my other experiences have spoilt me due to being of a very high standard. Sometimes, some of the French guests could appear a bit 'pushy' in the restaurant and some aren't keen on waiting. It wasn't a real problem for us, sometimes we found it amusing and we also noticed that the majority tended to eat during the earlier part of the meal times so if we avoided the first hour or so of the restaurant opening, things generally quietened down. We noticed that the restaurant does shut things down pretty much exactly at the stated times (understandably given how busy and hard working the staff are) so don't leave it too close to the end and occasionally popular items 'run out' near the end. I certainly wouldn't let the French influence/majority put me off this nice hotel, many/most are not rude or bad mannered and I have met many British people abroad who aren't good representatives of our country. We met some British guests and those we talked to were equally happy with all aspects of the hotel. A message to the lovely couple we met whose names we didn't find out (the London couple with friends in the area and who visited Granada).......we hope that your journey home was okay and that your 'heartbreak' at leaving San Pedro/Pueblo Andaluz is lessening; it is hard returning to reality isn't it! It was lovely to meet you both.

The staff at the hotel are pleasant and are happy to chat with you if you make conversation with them. We certainly didn't feel that they showed any favour/preference to French guests in any way.

The pool area is pleasant enough and the pool was clean and large. There is a bit of road noise from the very busy road just outside but it isn't too intrusive and the road isn't visible.

The area is nice, less 'touristy' and more of a Spanish feel than it's better known neighbours further up the coast which you pass through while travelling from Malaga airport to San Pedro. The town of San Pedro is a 15-20 minute walk via the main roads, the beach is a pleasant walk, again about 15 minutes, through an attractive residential area with quiet streets. You can see and hear lots of wild parrots in the palm trees in the area. On reaching the sea front you can walk on the lovely promenade either way, turning left would bring you into Puerto Banus in approx 30-35 minutes. We think the beach was particularly attractive when heading in this direction but is also nice going the other way. A TIP though about the TRANSFER to the hotel, look into transfer times carefully before booking. What should have been a trip of about an hour or just under can easily become an unbelievable 2-3 hours due to numerous 'drop off's'. The Spanish company that provided our transfer didn't inform us of this yet I understand that it is a regular occurrence. We also missed two meals due to transfer arrangements, our lunch on arrival and breakfast on day of departure. A lot of time was wasted travelling instead of being in resort.

In all, we had a lovely break, I think probably very pleasant at this time of year when the hotel is less busy and the temperature was hot without being over bearing. There was nothing to make us think that we wouldn't return, it was a relaxing break in a nice hotel in a nice area.

We have just had a 10 day holiday at this hotel and it was lovely.
The hotel is like a Spanish village with little streets and courtyards, all decorated with flowers and orange trees.
All the staff were very helpful and the other guests, who were mostly elderly French, were charming and good fun.
The food was always good and there should have been something for everyone's taste. Buffet style but plenty of choice. Sometimes needed to use the microwave to heat up the food, but that was OK too.
Rooms were spotless, cleaned well every day. We were in a little street at the back, very close to our 'neighbour's' front doors, but noise from other rooms was never a problem.
The staff were excellent, restaurant, reception, reps from French Club 3000, all friendly and helpful at all times.
We knew before we booked that it was mostly French holidaymakers who went to this hotel, but apart from not understanding some of the entertainment, this just added to the fun of holiday!
Hotel is within easy walking distance of the beach, but we stayed around the pool area most days as it was a lovely pool, absolutely spotless.
We travelled to Marbella and Peurto Benus on foot, by taxi and on the local bus. All very easy.
We took a trip to Gibralter, not overly impressed, but can say I have been ! Cheap duty free, but shops themselves, just the same prices as here.
Maybe not the most exciting hotel for young people, but the 2 groups of boys and 1 group of girls who were there, all seemed to enjoy themselves, but I imagine they went further a field at night for entertainment.
On the down side... not much actually,,,,
because there is only one bar, the entertainment, in French, would be going on in the area beside the bar and the other guests, mostly British, who were in the bar, and chatting, or talking loudly in some cases, would be disturbing the show and the audience at times were not pleased. Perhaps some kind of sound proofing would help avoid this problem.
Also, the noise from Buddies Bar at the corner of the street at night was loud and if like us, you were staying at the back of the hotel, the noise from Karaoke went on late every night.
Take a hairdryer if you need one.
Don't expect the popular brands of alcohol if all inclusive. The beer and sangria are good though.
Rooms over main entrance are very noisy at night, especially when the disco is open
Otherwise...
This hotel is great for families and friends looking for sun and relaxation. Its not a wild place for a super lively holiday
Would definitely go back!!!!

Room Tip: Somewhere in the middle of the hotel !!!!

We have just returned from a weeks last minuet break from this hotel, and can honestly say that it was very enjoyable and relaxing. O.k all the entertainment at night time is in french, and to be honest its not the hotels fault, the entertainment team are employed by a company to entertain only the french guests as this was previously a predominant french hotel it is only this year that the amount of english guests has increased, and i believe they are to try and address the situation for next year, the rooms were simple but clean and comfortable and the food generally ok, the only bug bear was having to find someone to serve beer or soft drinks at meal times the bar was not perminantly manned, apart from this i would redommend this as a nice relaxing holiday and the price we paid was exceptional would definately return to see if the entertainment changes or improves, but for what we paid i have no complaints really.

Room Tip: try not to get a room opposite the disco.

I have just returned from this hotel and although it was a very clean hotel entertainment was geared only for the french. Staff in the hotel were very polite and very helpful. I thought the food was poor, chips with everything, breakfast was the same every day. I will not be returning to this hotel.

The advertisements for this hotel does not do it justice. We have just returned from a one week all inclusive stay here. The hotel, grounds, food, staff, pool, the location, everything associated with it was absolutely first class. Cannot believe that it is only rated as a 3star hotel! This is definitely a place we will be retuning to.

ALL the staff could not do enough to make the stay pleasurable. So a huge thank you to all the staff who truly made our stay so fabulous.

Room Tip: Room 111, overlooks the pool.

After our visit to the Pueblo Andaluz last year we said we would return and indeed we did. Have just spent another lovely week at this wonderful hotel. 8 days of swimming in the fantastic pool, 8 days of scrumptious food and wine, 8 days of relaxing and enjoying the company of the French and British alike. The staff are friendly and always helpful and the variety and quality of food is second to none. Everywhere clean and our room was made-up and cleaned early each day. The gardens are beautiful. Love the walk down to and along the seafront and a visit into Estepona was very enjoyable. However, did most of the sights last year so spent most of this time chilling out around the pool and relaxing. French entertainers once again very funny though missed Louis, Simeon, Miriam and Sophie from last year. However, Axel, Nate, Jan and the others this year did give us some great laughs and memories. Will we go back again?? You bet.
