Myself and three friends have just returned from staying in Majorca from 11th to 20th September 2012, at a friends apartment in Canyamel, just across the road from the hotel Laguna. We had already popped in to the Reception area to ask directions to one or two local places and seek advice about a couple of things and were graciously given some useful tips and literature, which we all thought was very helpful and a marvellous gesture, as we were not residents of the hotel. One evening after dinner, our friend popped out of the apartment to buy a few things from the local nearby shops, which stay open open very late, but having not returned afyer a while we naturally became anxious. We set off to find him and also peered over the balconys only to see him sat on an outside wall covered in blood, having had a nasty fall down a slope leading to the underground garage. We rushed down all the apartment stairs to see him covered in blood swaying and mopping his forehead. He was concussed and not making any sense so I quickly ran across to the hotel Laguna and the Receptionist on duty immediately saw my distress and ran back with me to see what she could do, and then called the ambulance. Within minutes the ambulance arrived, having been directed to the apartment by several concerned residents. The police arrived shortly afterwards and we were answering lots of questions while he was being treated in the ambulance, then both man and wife were promply speeded off to a nearby hospital in Manacor. He had a scan which confirmed no bones were broken, and had 12 stitches on a deep gash, but was allowed to return back to the apartment by taxi in the early hours, much to all our relief.
I would like to thank the hotel Laguna reception staff very much indeed for their excellent and swift response to our emergency, which was so worrying for us all at the time. We do not speak much spanish, and was impressed with the calm professionalism which helped the situation immensely. The couple concerned wrote a thank you card, but I also just wanted to express my grateful thanks and reassure any visitor to the hotel that you will be very well taken care of. Do not forget to apply for, or have the attitude that you can't be bothered to apply for or take with you the EU medical card - you will need it if you are unlucky enough to have an accident abroad. This card was shown to the police and ambulance crew before our friend was taken to hospital. The treatment and scan and medication alone would have cost over a thousand pounds, so it is was well worth it !
At the end of our holiday, we booked and caught the shuttle bus back to Palma airport. The pick up point was outside the Laguna hotel and while we waited, we were speaking to a young lad who had been working in the hotel for 4 months. He said he had been very happy there, was well fed, treated fairly and had enjoyed his work experience, and confirmed that the manager was flying him back out again for the end of season staff party - really super !
Very well done Hotel Laguna.
From a traumatised and relieved and happy holidaymaker - Elaine.
