We've visited playa blanca many times and always stay in this style of holiday home as there are quite a few of very similar design in and around the Marina which we love. Sadly this one was not of the standard we have come to look forward to in other properties. Upon arrival our first impression was not great. We are directed to the back of the property to get the keys and straight away the pool area looks tired the sunbeds are very old and broken and not at all appealing. There is also quite a lot of peeling paint but we were later informed this was from an earlier storm so if that's the case it can't be helped. Both the front and back gates are old and could not be closed which would have been a big concern for me if we're have been travelling with children.
Inside, it's of a similar feel, tired and neglected. It feels as though it may have been furnished with old things brought over from the U.K as a the lamps etc had English plugs. The kitchen was for me the most disappointing, unclean random collection of glasses some of which were broken, greasy utensils had attracted ants into one of the drawers, just generally not great. No sign of any kind of welcome pack of essentials which we've always received in every other house, no dishcloth, soap etc... A few random utensils and bits of cooking oil and vinegar left by previous renters I assume. The toaster was filthy and did not work and the microwave, I'll let the picture speak for itself. I should say after sending pictures to our rental agent on the ground she did kindly come and change those two for us which was appreciated.
On a positive note the bedrooms were fine, lovely and bright, big rooms with fans to help stay cool as the house does not have air con. Bedding was clean and beds were very comfortable. Towels were old and some of which were branded as pool towels from a hotel near by...???
House has a great supermarket at the end of the street but not much else very close by. The description says it's a five minute walk to the Marina and honestly even when we tried to cut accross a building plot of to see if we could make it quicker... it's still easily a 15 - 20 minute walk. Head down towards the sea and take the coastal path and you won't mind the walk as the view is incredible!!
All in all, we love Marina Rubicon, playa blanca and exploring the island by car so we did not let it spoil our trip. But honestly I hope this will encourage the owners to give this house the update it desperately needs as it this price other houses in the area are far better at present. It could be a beautiful place to stay!
large spacious villa, ideal for families, great location, lovelly to have swimming pool, which was cleaned and maintained three times during our eleven nights stay by a very friendly englishman. Very close to good supermarket, clean and airy
