“Lovely hotel but drinks quite expensive and pools too cold.”
Reviewed 19 January 2013

Just returned from a week at the Natura Palace hotel. Drinks quite expensive in the hotel and although there was plenty of food choice it tended to be the same every night and often tasted bland. We have stayed twice before at the Sandos Papagayo Arena (also in Playa Blanca) which is all inclusive. We would have to say that the food there seemed far tastier and the drinks were free. We paid more for staying half board at the Natura so we were naturally expecting better food. However, on saying that we had a super holiday with fab weather and some of the evening entertainment at the Natura was fab! And we won £50 pounds on the Bingo... Which helped towards the drinks bill at the end of the week! Pool quite cold as was jacuzzi.

Just got back, stayed 8th - 15th Jan. Only paid £340 for a week here, in that context the hotel provided excellent value for money. Pretty much agree with all the positives here, would like to add cheap drinks and food from the pool bar. Great bar next door called Manea, couldn't quite work out if this was owned by the hotel or not but was also good value. Room was a little tired, more akin to a 3 star, no in-room safe, chunky old TV, BBC world news, CNN, sky news, the horror channel, travel ±1, and CBS action. Hotel has an odd English language TV selection! Waiting staff in restaurant a little slow. Pool's are very cold - heat one up Hipotels! Gym could do with updating a little. WiFi painfully slow and limited in distance from Reception, why not introduce in room WiFi for a small fee of 20 euros? If you're desperate for in-room WIFI get yourself a wifi extender and you should be able to pick up wifi.lanzarote.net who offer all you can eat Internet access for 25 euros.

On the whole very minor gripes, staff were attentive and polite. Cute little Russian Blue cat around the pool and another couple around the place who seemed to keep the bird, mice and lizard population down.

the Hotel was excellant. Staff, food, rooms pool bars and restaurants were all first calss. Our only gripe was the room view, we were partly obscrued by a large tree, otherwise all OK.

Room Tip: If allocated rooms 1036/1037 view it before unpacking as these two rooms have the large tree obscu...

this was my second time at this hotel , and i would go back tomorrow , the seating area around the reception where they have a lovely bar , that you can chill out to is lovely loads of settee,s chairs ect the dinning room is spotless , the staff are great so helpful anything you ask they get for you, the food is wonderful i love the labelling of all the food gluten free labels everywhere there is so much choice and believe me its lovely , on the italian night i read a review saying there was just a pizza, HALLO did they not see all the other food as well, also if your a veggie there is a lot of choice and i mean a lot , everyone i spoke to said they couldnt believe it, also if you wanted a cuppa after your meal there was a machine for you to help yourself. , there is never any rush to get a sunbed there are plenty around i was there christmas week, and meet some lovely people , the rooms are large if i had to nip pick although very clean no mould anywhere in my room, the furniture could do with updating , but as you dont spend your holiday in your room , its fine i was there last year in july and i found the aircon fine , but everyroom can be different , if vyou want a relazing holiday go for it, pools also are fine , quite large not masive but not small either, always clean, its not on the beach , so if you want lovely sand , dont go to this hotel, its a lovely walk along the promanade to see the other hotels also to the marina , the thomson rep was lovely always smiling and very helpful , if you book this hotel i dont think you will be disapointed

Room Tip: my room was 1169 along there is quite i did overlook the kiddies area but both times of visiting i n...

Arriving at Cardiff for our early afternoon flight we were disapointed by the little choice of food on offer knowing that Thomsons don't provide any on the flight unless you pay as you go for zapped rubbish. Boarding the plane we had to walk onto the runway and up the steps, fortunately it was not raining or we would all have to be seated wet and cold in our cramped seats, we learned that had happened to later flights.
Arrived at the airport in Lanzarote to a covered walkway with no problems and met a member of staff from Thomsons who told us to follow the yellow line dragging our cases to our coach, what he failed to mention was that the trek was about 400 yards.
We stayed at the Natura Palace for three weeks over the Christmas period and for what we paid we thought it was a good choice, yes I can find fault but if you want five star then you have to pay more.
As mentioned before in these reviews the staff are very good, the hotel is a little dark in the reception area and attracts little flies that bite and the odd mossy, the air con is not brilliant, the rooms are a little tired with mossies splattered on the walls but the maid was excellent with regular linen changes, the TV is mainly in German with only Sky News, BBC Worldnews and CNN in English. The wifi is weak, the crazy golf is pathetic and the pools are too cold. The entertainment was poor but fortunately you couldn't see most of it as the room was so badly laid out. Now on the positive side we found it very relaxing, very few children or younger people with probably an average age of late fifties. There was always a sun bed available and everyone seemed polite. Regarding the food well we thought it was very good and even though we have had more choice in other hotels we thought the food here was of good quality but the coffee at breakfast was teribble also as with any buffet guest hygene is questionable, I think it would be a good idea if the hotel provided hand gell stations around the resturaunt as in hospitals as some of the things we saw guests do was simply disgusting, we used our own but admit we never heard of anyone being ill as you do in Egypt. Dress code was good.
Hiring a car for two weeks we saw most of the island, we loved the beaches at Papagayo and El Santa as they were quiet and the main roads in better condition than ours and petrol at only one Euro per Litre.
When the time came to depart all hell broke loose, the airport was so congested that it took us one hour forty minutes to check in and the Thomson reps had no idea how to manage it, one even found it humourous and I told him this was enough to put us off returning, he agreed.
Overall we enjoyed it but think Natura Palace would be better as an adults only hotel. Great breakfasts but needs decent coffee, So would we return? Well we considered it but looking at the Thomsons brochure prices we have noted that the same holiday at the same time has risen by almost £600 so will look elswhere. If only Thomsons tried harder.

Room Tip: Use the expresso machine at breakfast for decent coffee.

First stay at this hotel. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food average, Pools and site average. We are a couple on our 50s. Have stayed in Playa Blanca most years for the past 10 but not at this hotel. The resort is gentle on the eye and very much suits a December rest, most days a comfortable temparature, blue sky and bright sun,two or three overcast days out of 14.

The Hotel was clean and staff very pleasant but it lacks character and atmosphere. There is something dull about it we couldn't quite put our finger on. Perhaps a little conservative with an older clientele, quite sedentry. A very different experience from the Yaiza, Timanfaya, Ibero Star and H10 Princess, mainly due to its flat seafront position and overly green landscaping. The hotel is built on a flatter site so the sounds of the sea appear louder, some people may like this. It has pretty gardens and flowers but this seems to be at the expense of larger pool and public areas. Its main seafront entrance looks flat on at the sea but is set back in a bay shape due to the line of the coast.

The restaurant has plants displayed in a central atrium that tends to make for a claustrophobic feel. It is crammed with chairs and tables with all the food served at one end. On the whole we found this awkward, busy, and cramped, claustrophobic and far too warm. Guests wait to be shown to seats, some a very long way from the food causing people to weave closely between people already seated and edging around them, if booked half board doing this everyday becomes irritating. We felt the hotel design wastes a lot of space and the reception had a dark, dindgy feel in part, two small fountains worked by a whining pump. Seats are slightly worn looking and are winged chairs, settees are very low. This hotel seemed to attract the conventional tourist who may well enjoy the order and pace but for us it felt draining and slightly sterile, children would be a little bored.

Choose your room carefully, some look in a dreadful position over service entrances and in the winter some rooms will never get the sun. Corridors all very clean, part carpeted but, again, with dark spots or wasted space. Absolutely no views from public indoor areas at all unless you are on your room balcony.

Room issues: We requested a change as the first room we were offered was ground floor, on an angle over looking mini golf, small patio doors and generally smaller than any we had experienced in the neighbouring hotels. The outlook would not get much sun and the view a matter of opinion.

The second room was lovely and large, in the annex with sea views and sun all day, the reception staff were very good, responding immediately to our request. Unfortunately the air conditioning was stuck on 26 and we waited for this to be looked at losing the use of the room for the most part of a day returning to request it looked at for a second time. A technician cleaned the filters. Other guests we chatted too were not happy with air con in other rooms but some were quite content. Eventually, after two very hot nights we were moved to another room overlooking the pools towards the East. The reception staff were excellent at all times depite dealing with a very random rooming policy. It really is the luck of the draw. We would NEVER pay in advance for a room upgrade it is such a lottery.

However we could not fault the well mannered, calm, polite staff in all areas of the hotel, or the fabulous New Year meal, served professionally with excellent table layout and decoration. Each evening there was a fabulous display of fruit but it is not kept cold and is sitting opposite all the warm food in the evenings under spotlights that warm.

The Pool area is a little boring, no water features and a cold jacuzzi which seems to defeat the object. One pool heated however, around 22 degrees and all very clean. A canvassed bar area and neat gardens either side of the main building with colourful flowers and well watered grass but no seating in the gardens. Also at least 20 metres of sun trap space on the East facing ground floor running alongside the restaurant with no seating provided between the smokers and the outside bar area. Out of the wind and the sun, a waste and a poor design/layout issue.

We felt the Hotel management should move all smoking seats away from door entrances, guests who walk out of the two main poolside entrances will catch all the second hand smoke as they walk out, especially in the evenings after a meal. If you like internet use the reception area gives an average signal.

Offering a gentle stretching class is a good idea and uses some of the unused lawn space under a palm tree, slightly in the shade, looking at a completely blue sky in January was very pleasant indeed.

Beds seem to have partial memory foam, some may love it but not us. The hotel laundry is exceptional, towels, sheets etc.. All changed regularly. They definetely spend their budget on laundered table linen too!

Mosquitos not good this year, foliage in this hotel does not help, trees and plants need rethinking, too close to rooms, too tall and too many. The space seems wasted?Lots of little bugs, seemingly not so prevalent in other hotels, harmless but unpleasant. The foliage blocks out so much light and with green coloured glass as the main frontal window piece a jungle effect is produced, birds and all.

Overall an average stay at a tidy, well ordered hotel, sufficient in December at the height of the hibernation season.Thankfully the resort of Costa Blanca is so tranquil and calming on the eye it will always compensate visitors for any disapointments.

Comparing is always tricky. However we wouldn't stay at this hotel again and have been surprised at how many reviews fail to mention the air con problems, the dull, rather dark interior (new years eve needed the lights turning on in all walkways by 3pm as it was overcast outside. The mood dipped considerably). Finally the poor layout and limited, badly designed, cramped ( even when quiet) restaurant would make us look elsewhere as we like to eat in the hotel every night.

Thompson staff seemed distant, slightly wooden and wary. We are always polite and reasonable but can't help feeling we could do with a little human interest, support and reassurance. We would like to have been asked if the room issue was sorted out especially as we stayed for two weeks. We realise their work processes people on a conveyor belt that may well cause them to think of tourists as holograms in a computer game but this is a people facing job with real, human customers.
Platinum package weight of hand luggage is 7 kg Thompson should sort the communication out with airport staff on this!

Room Tip: NEVER pay for an upgrade. Work out what game is being played and blame the tour operators for failin...

My wife and I spent a week here just prior to Christmas to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary. Every aspect of our holiday was perfect but especially the labelling of food in the restaurant as 'Gluten Free'. This was the first hotel anywhere that we have visited that I could be confident my meal was 'Gluten Free'. This was very futuristic of the Chef and we met several other people who had Coeliac Disease who were returning after previous holiday's there. I would definately return.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.
