What a fantastic holiday all around! Desperate for some sun after the miserable English summers of late, we made a booking at Villa Ripley, and will definitely return.
From start to finish, everything was made easy and enjoyable. The booking process was simple, and the recommendation for the car hire company (Auto Reisen) was a good one. A mere half hour drive from the airport, Villa Ripley really does have everything you would want for a luxurious "home from home" holiday.
The villa itself is spacious and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, the lounge has large comfortable sofas (not that we spent much time using them!). The bedrooms are also a very good size and comfortable (no tripping over your partners boots / sandals / socks or any other item here!). The main bathroom and the en suite are also well equipped and very nicely decorated.
The garden is absolutely lovely. It has been beautifully planted around the borders, which not only looks gorgeous but also provides a good level of privacy. The pool was fantastic. We always look for Villa's with private pools, and this did not disappoint. There is the option of pool heating, but in September we certainly did not require this. The water was sparkling, and the pool spotless. The large terrace provides plenty of room for sunbathing, drinking, eating, sitting and reading, and probably more drinking!
The built in barbeque is brilliant and is a must use item if you decide to stay at Villa Ripley. The property is managed by Liz and Dave across the road, who are very helpful and friendly, and always on hand for any problems or advice.
I can't praise the villa highly enough. It is a magnificent place to stay. So, now on to suggestions for the area!
First of all, shopping! For food shopping, the Hiperdino supermarket is good. There are loads of them around. We found the most useful one (probably due to its size) at the bottom end of Playa Blanca. If you want fresh meat for the BBQ, or fresh veg, then Ropers is the perfect place. It is at the opposite end of Playa Blanca (may even come under Los Colorados).
For eating out, there is SO much to choose from in Playa Blanca and Marina Rubicon. For us, the stand-out places were Faz's and Lani's Snack Bar both in Marina Rubicon.
Things to do - plenty, but the dune buggy tour was excellent, one of the tours taking in Timanfaya National park is worth it, Papagayo beach is a must. I could go on, but I suspect there is a word limit on these reviews!
So, to sum up (thanks for sticking with me!), an excellent villa, in a safe area, with plenty to do. We will definitely be back to soak up more of the island atmosphere, and in particular the fantastic Villa Ripley.
